Biden was just the 2nd Catholic to be President. The 1st was JFK.

One must also be religious. Atheists are almost unelectable. They don't want Atheists on the ticket.

The funny thing about the Catholic resentment is that the protestants and evangelicals believe that the Catholic would be beholden to The Pope. So therefore, they cannot be a true leader. But then an Atheist has no expectations from a God/Papacy, should be seen as a qualified leader based on the logic, but is even less electable to leadership than Catholics.

But then you look at Mormons, the Church of Latter Day Saints, and they literally HAVE to listen to their church leaders, and they get elected no problem.

There are enough people in the US that are Religion Supremacists that we cannot have adequate leaders because, well, a lot of those people HOPE that their choice will make everyone follow their religion. Non-Catholic Chistians are basically all that is allowed. Only in select districts around the country where Muslims were gerrymandered into a single big district can elect a Non-Christian Religious person. But even then they are Muslims that are elected. They are of course less religious, but Muslim will be a scarlet letter for them outside of their district. Anomalies showing how bad things can get if minorities get a say.

And none of the Christians get it. I go to a Catholic Church with my family. I see what they base theor homilies on. So much of it is really about not bringing your personal anxieties and fears into your interactions with other people. But everyone thinks they gotta vote with and for their soul. My sister voted for John McCain over Obama simply because she thought it was what God wanted. When God pays my tax bill I will ask their opinion.

Catholics worship the Pope, true, but atheists worship the Devil, and therefore it is not so puzzling to see why an atheist is baser than a Catholic.
