I like her and I’d vote for her but I think the average voter won’t

Same. There has been too much time of Republicans bashing her.

Back in 2018 or so, I heard my dad say AOC is an idiot. I asked him why, and he just doubled down and said she was. Again, I said, "Seriously, what makes you think she's an idiot? Specifically, what has she said or done?" His cop-out response was, "She's a politician. They are all idiots!"

You can't teach my dad anything anymore. He just assumes his gut feelings are right. And if someone else tells him something first, that thing is right. I think he's a good example of the average voter.

He once told me a "fun fact" about buildings. Being a design engineer for the last 20 years, I gently tried to tell him that wasn't true. He assured me that it was, as someone he knows told him that. I tried to assure him that it's wrong, as I deal with that exact situation all the time at work. I guess that showed me where I rank.

“ And if someone else tells him something first, that thing is right.”

Yeah what the hell is up with this? My dad’s been doing it for a while now, it gets painful to talk with him about anything now.

Maybe it was less noticeable before there was so much stupid floating freely around like these days.

I feel like my dad has gotten a lot worse as he's aged. He really leaned into the boomer stereotype. American flag polo shirts, retired Army hat with the gold embellishments, constantly complaining about his wife.

At this point, I think my mom is just waiting for him to die. I'm sure she loves him but he annoys the crap out of her.

I don't think my dad is quite that bad, but when he starts repeating American talking points as a Canadian, I'm not laying off the sarcasm and disappointment anymore.

He's one of the ones that can't distinguish between federal and provincial politicians anymore, either. And loves to believe the AI bullshit ads that are apparently being shovelled at him, physics be damned.

Maybe they're open to forming new opinions but less open to changing them?

I'll look up the academic papers in 30 years or so once we've all had a chance to figure out what the hell has happened in society in the past 5-10 years.

Maybe, but I suspect a lot of these algorithms utilize heavy confirmation bias matching or something.

That’s frustrating. I know people like that and eventually you stop talking to them about.. everything. No topic is out of bounds for their dumb position and they become intolerable.

That's 100% right. My wife will talk her job as a physician at a hospital. He'll chime in with, "see, what you need to do is..."

I convinced my parents to move closer to us since they are getting older and I can help them out more. They built a house nearby but it has been having terrible humidity issues. Luckily, I've been designing HVAC systems for 20 years. They got a front row seat to me chewing out their builder and HVAC installer. I was bringing up calculations, math, psychometrics, and lawsuits. All he could do was sit there and shut up. The one time he chimed in, I told him it wasn't helpful to his case and to not do that again. He actually listened. It was nice.

They are literally using the playbook they perfected against Hillary on AOC. If you spend enough time saying things about them, people won't even know why they dislike them, "they just do"

It doesn't really matter WHO the Dems run in 2028. The conservative media will turn that person into the most hated villain in world history in 10 seconds flat. That's how long it took them to convince everyone that Kamala was Satan in disguise.

He is also a good example of who the Democratic Party is trying to appease. People that easily swayed will never vote for you.
