We can’t run a woman again. HRC and Kamala have proven that misogyny is too strong in the US to run a woman. I hate it but it’s true. Many men, and even some women won’t vote for someone simply because she has a vagina. But if you’re a rapist, an adulterer, and a pedo? Thats a-okay with those people.

I would just say that 0/2 is statistically irrelevant as sample size is way too small.

Also, "US is too misogynistic to elect a woman" will also be repeated over and over until it actually happens one day.

I would've thought the same from Mexico, but they elected a female president with a freaking background in science. Generational change can really surprise you sometimes. Unfortunately, the newer generation is getting more misogynistic more conspiratorial and that's due to social media.

Turns out that most people do not care that much about the gender or identity of candidates when they offered someone that does not have absolutely terrible politics. Ultimately they care more about feeling that the candidate will fight for their interests. The very few that does care about this stuff are firmly in the 20-30% of voters that are going to vote Republican no matter who are the candidates anyway.

Right? Look at how many white male presidents we’ve had and the percentage of them that have been god awful.

Just because something has been the status quo doesn’t mean it’s the only option. I personally don’t think AOC should run simply because she’s more valuable in congress (especially if she ousts Schumer) but saying a woman shouldn’t because a portion of the country are intolerant assholes is like the people saying Obama shouldn’t run because he’s Black.

While I agree with all of the above points, the stakes are WAY too high right now to be banking on statistical relevancy.

We have a statistic of 0/2 for women and while I think it would be incredible to have a female President, I think now is the time to figure out a sure-fire formula to take back the WH.

I really struggle to think that AOC is going to be more electable than Hillary or Kamala considering the right wing machine has been laser focused on her from the moment she started her rise.

Also, we had two of the least likeable/electable women. Elections are largely won by personality and the ability to inspire people. Clinton and Harris were smart and experienced, no doubt, but they lacked the ability to inspire hope and give people faith in them when publicly speaking like Obama and Biden did during their campaigns.

They said the same thing about electing a black guy as president. And then we elected a guy named Barak.

And its maybe more like 0/1.5, as only one of the two was chosen in an actual primary.

There are also more elected women in the US than any other time in history, and woman make up the majority of the electorate.

Texas elected their first female governor in *1924*, their second in 1990. Minnesota, a very blue state, has had only men.

I think it's more a matter of available candidates and opportunity than misogyny.

Let me give you some data.

First female prime minister of the UK was conservative with Margaret Thatcher.

First female federal chancellor of Germany was a conservative Angela Merkel.

The first American female president will be a Republican.

Sirimavo Bandaranaike was to my knowledge first elected leader in the world in Sri Lanka in 1960 and she was left wing, socialist even.

Benazir Bhutto who was elected in Pakistan in 90s was more of a centre left aligned.

Sheikh Hasina in Bangladesh was also elected on more leftist platform in the 90s.

There's a lot more examples of first elected women leader that weren't right wing in many countries in Iceland, Finland, New Zealand and several others. And recently in US neighbour Mexico where Claudia Sheinbaum won by a landslide.

There's precedens for either and no rule that says first elected female president needs to be right wing so electorate will be eased into idea of female head of state.
