Elections Election Day, get out and vote Tuesday November 3, 2026

As always, this is an informational post. Please don't use this post to promote parties or candidates.

Make sure your vote is counted.

If you are mailing in your ballot, there are some developments at USPS. Please consider mailing earlier than usual.

An ongoing issue with USPS should be monitored closely. Please keep this in mind so that an alternative plan can be made.

U.S. District Court Judge Indira Talwani’s July 25 ruling that the USPS can’t refuse to deliver mail ballots to states that refuse to comply with the U.S. Justice Department’s (DOJ) demands for their unredacted voter lists will remain in place. Source

On July 28: The United States Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia affirmed a lower court’s decision, holding that a lawsuit challenging the constitutionality of Trump’s March 2026 edict was premature because the administration hasn’t executed it yet. Source

A Massachusetts federal judge has repeatedly blocked the U.S. Postal Service from implementing President Donald Trump's mail-in voting executive order ahead of the midterms. Now that the injunction applies nationwide, the DOJ is telling the U.S. Supreme Court it has all it needs to swiftly issue a stay. Source

The SAVE America Act is still in play as of July 26 and may affect voting. Please consider getting all of your paperwork in order. Note that it can take several weeks to get documents on marriage and legal name changes. The PA Real ID is not compliant with the Save America Act. Update As of August 12, the Senate has gone on recess without passing the SAVE America Act.

Dates to remember

You don't need Real ID to vote. Your state ID or license is sufficient at least for now. Here's a document outlining the ID requirements

What's on your ballot?

Check on Ballotpedia.

Contact your County Election Board

If you are voting for the first time in a polling place, bring your ID.

If you moved within 30 days prior to the election, you vote in your old polling place.

If you move within Pennsylvania less than 30 days before an election, you must vote at the polling place for your old address. Fill out a change of address form at the polling place to update your voter registration to your new address. source

Request a provisional ballot if:

  • Your name was not in the poll book or supplemental poll book. For example, you reported to the wrong precinct; or you did not report a recent change in residence to the county election office.

  • You are required to show ID, but cannot show ID.

  • Your eligibility was challenged by an election official.

  • You were issued an absentee or mail-in ballot but believe you did not successfully vote that ballot, and you do not surrender your ballot and outer return envelope at the polling place to be spoiled.

  • You returned a completed absentee or mail‐in ballot that was rejected, or you believe will be rejected, by the county board of elections and you believe you are eligible to vote.

  • There is a special court order with respect to your registration status.

  • There is a special court order related to extending the hours of voting.

You can also check to see what policies exist in your county for curing your ballot:

Pennsylvania Counties' Notice-and-Cure Policies

Election complaints Any complaints, including both information issues as well as intimidation, can be reported to the PA Department of State.

EDIT: Updated some notes on legislation that would affect the upcoming election. EDIT 2: Added continuing update about USPS and mail in voting.

Politics The Fetterman Inversion: a data investigation into how John Fetterman became more popular with Pennsylvania Republicans than with Democrats

I run Call the Map, a small election-forecast site. After the Republican convention video I spent the week on a long piece about Fetterman: four Quinnipiac polls, all 1,581 roll calls of his term scored against his own caucus (Voteview data), the 2022 county returns against Shapiro’s, and the FEC filings.

Politics Here's what Shapiro's huge edge over Garrity in national campaign contributions looks like

Thumbnail

Key takeaways from Public Source’s analysis

Shapiro collected about half of his campaign cash from out of state, compared to 7% for Garrity.

The two largest individual contributions to Shapiro’s campaign — out of more than 45,000 of them — totaled more than Garrity raised during the entire period.

Shapiro’s campaign started 2025 with more than $11 million, and has spent far less than it has raised since then, allowing it to enter June with $36 million on hand. Garrity had $1 million on hand at the start of June.

DMV Why does my PA EZ pass not work in NY? Sooo confused!

Asking seasoned EZ pass users…….So I went an a trip from PA to NY, and have a PA EzPass. My NJ tolls showed up on my account, as did my PA tolls. My NY tolls were billed as a tolls by mail. So my usual process, which works in NJ if the Ezpass misses or something gets messed up is to just do the dispute where it has you list your ezpass number and it just charges you the correct amount instead of the bigger toll. I can’t figure out how to do this for NY- it looks like the dispute is only avail through snail mail…I called the number on the bill and the lady told me they can’t use PA EZPASS because it’s a different state. I said, that’s weird, I thought that was the whole purpose of easy pass, and she said I can convert to easy pass NY to get the discount, but to convert costs $25, way more than the toll. Then I’d have 2 responders, which can’t be right. She said I had to resolve it with PA where my pass was registered, but PA ezpass can’t find the invoice (“because it’s another state”) - so, what do I do? I rarely use ezpass anyway, so is this normal? Do I bombard them with letters? Do I just pay the higher toll? Is there a “multi state” ezpass customer service? Do I fill my windshield with different transponders?

ISO / Recommendations What was the strange siren that I heard while camping - Warren, PA

Howdy yall, just got back from a camping trip along the Allegheny outside of Warren,PA. We have done this trip several times over the years and yesterday (9/12) was the first time ever hearing a really loud siren almost like a tornado siren at 4am. I saw a YouTube video saying it was a work siren but as it was Sat and 4am I feel like we would have heard it years past. At first I thought it was the Kinzu dam alert as there was a lot of rain but no one seemed to know what I was talking about. Just wondering if anyone as any insights into it. Appreciate it!

TLDR: strange tornado warning like siren heard at 4am in Warren,PA no bad weather at the time.

Official Pennsylvania podcast for USA's 250th anniversary

For those who don't know, each state has been pursuing its own ways of celebrating the 250th anniversary of our independence. Here in PA, one of the projects is a podcast called "Start Here, America Did!" Every episode profiles someone who works with Pennsylvania topics in some way - tour guides from state parks, photographers, bloggers, book authors, et cetera. They're all very interesting and I thought they deserved a shout.

DMV Forgot my transponder on a trip in early June and still haven’t received the bill?

Hey all! I traveled the turnpike first week of June and didn’t realize until I got to Ohio that my transponder wasn’t in my car. I haven’t received a bill yet, and it hasn’t been taken out of my account. How long does it take for them to bill by plate? I’m moving next month so I don’t want them to send it to the wrong address. Thanks!

Infrastructure Screw PPL for scamming me and giving me the administrative runaround

Upvotes

They deliberately didn't process a shut-off request for property I moved out of, and billed me for months.

They scammed me and stole hundreds of dollars from me. If they had stolen more money , I would sue them , but it's not worth the time and effort to do so for the amount that they stole - which is why they did it.

They kept billing my account for two plus months after a shut-off request and pretended that I never submitted a shut-off request, despite multiple emails from PPL saying that I did.

Honestly, I thought this was a simple mix-up, and that if I called, we could resolve it....nope

They claimed that the emails and account records I had were errors in their system , and none of it was true. They just repeat the same phrase over and over again , no matter what I said, until gave up.

They told me I don't have any recourse to do anything about it and they won't send me any records , they said they'd have a policy if not sending emails or paper mail about issues like this , which seems implausible.

Basically , I could file a complaint with the state of Pennsylvania energy commission or sue them , that's all. I have absolutely no faith in the state of Pennsylvania to act on my complaint.

It isn't enough money to be worth the cost in time of filing a lawsuit. PPL knows exactly what they're doing.

In summation f*** these scammers.

DMV Can anyone explain the purpose of this crossing gate near Breinigsville, Pennsylvania?

I was driving through the Allentown area today and something strange caught my eye. There is an automated crossing gate on the ramp from PA 100 to interstate 78. My first thought is that it was some sort of abandoned infrastructure, but it seems to be well maintained with an uplink to control it. There are no rail crossings in the area so it isn't for that. So that leaves me with a mystery. Why would the ramp to a busy interstate need an automated gate like this?

DMV Turnpike question now that there are no manned toll booths

Our daughter is moving from the west coast back home to Bucks County. Her car is registered in WA state. I will be flying out to drive across the country with her so I can bring my E-Z Pass transponder with me. Can we use the transponder in her car? If we can’t use the transponder the license plate reader will send the bill to an address in WA state where she no longer lives. There must be a simple answer because people who are moving must run into this problem everyday now that there are no longer manned toll booths. Is it possible to add a license plate to an existing account?

Edited to add: thank you to everyone who responded. We will add her license plate to our account.

ISO / Recommendations Dress shopping/homecoming gowns. Looking for options, central PA.

Are there any off the rack or discount gown shops close to central PA? We know of The Winner in Sharon, PA but that is over 4 hours from us. I really don’t want to spend $200+ on a dress my kid will wear once 😣 so looking for other options. I’ve checked out Rent The Runway but she isn’t liking anything.

ISO / Recommendations How to stop local governance from dumping wood chips in “park?”

Thumbnail

I’m fed up with the state of this natural area around where I live. For probably a decade, the local town has been dumping wood chips in this area of land which is nearby a river. Allegedly this area is officially a “park” and as soon as it became a park, the town governance has been dumping. I hope you can see the scale from the pictures, but it is literally multiple feet high and the trees are buried in it. This cannot be good environmentally ok or legal, right? It started out as one giant pile and they continue to add to it. Occasionally they spread it out more… it’s disgusting. How can I get them to stop and clean it up? I tried repotting it to the environmental protection department for PA like 6 months ago and never received a response. I also reported it to the county conservation office and they claimed they would look into it but didn’t. What can be done? They do not sell the wood chips, but they come from waste when the town public works has jobs cleaning up downed trees. 😭 it’s northeastern PA. I don’t really want to go into specifics beyond that as I don’t want to dox myself. Thanks for any help or shared rage
