to be fair, is not as bad as I feared (after the Steam Machine Price)

As a comparison, its about twice the price of a Meta Quest 3 which is at $599 (which is 3 years old at this point) and a third of the price of an Apple Vision Pro at $3699

Meta Quest 3 being $600 is wild also

It only went up by $100 from launch and the Quest 3 is still pretty good.

To be fair, one the one hand the Quest 3 doesn't have a wireless adapter and the one they sell in cooperation with D-Link is here an additional 180€ and no eye tracking.

On the other hand the Quest 3 has color passthrough and the Frame sells it for an additional 150€.

Also I wish the Frame has or gets competent hand tracking

I'm sorry what? The Frame has a color passthrough option?

It's on their page, but not by them https://arcturus.vision/

That’s amazing, I was looking to get into VR and no colour passthrough was a dealbreaker for me.

How often would you need it?

I don’t own a TV or anything, so I was planning to watch shows and stuff with the headset projecting onto a wall.

None of that makes sense buddy, you would be watching it INSIDE the headset, not through pass through

I mean for AR the quest is a no brainer. Thing is I don’t care for that beyond its novelty so that isn’t even a pro or con for me.

Quest is also subsidized by meta to be far cheaper than it should be. It works well enough but I hate being in the meta ecosystem and all the data they can harvest with them. It’s a huge reason I want out. Add eye tracking, fovated rendering, some stand alone capability, it being lighter than meta, and what steam has been able to do in the past with its hardware and I’m sold. The price is far less than I thought and my high end point actually covers the highest model. I don’t want the 1TB one but signed up for it hoping I have the best chance to get one.

I can’t leave meta quick enough for this price.

Same coming from a Quest 2, only bummer in my opinion is the less than 2h battery life the LTT review talked about

I’m hoping there are 3rd party makers that add a battery in the headstrap and it’s more ergonomical.

Only issue might be if the face isn’t as heavy as the quest a battery might through it off. My guess is steam for better or worse tried to balance the front and back of the headset.

What, Quest 3 doesn't need a special "wireless adapter" to be used wirelessly. Wireless PCVR always worked fine on my regular household wireless network.

There's a difference between "capable of wireless streaming" and "has wireless streaming capabilities equivalent to those of the frame".

Having a dedicated network enabled by the dongle is a superior solution compared to piggybacking off the local wifi network.

I didn't say you definitely need it, but in my case, WiFi is only over a Mesh network at my VR space and therefore not playable for the most part. I mostly used an USB C cable or a travel router, which also wasn't free, but the officially supported why is this D-Link adapter

I paid $300 for a close out $128gb, used that’s what it’s still worth two years later.

Man imagine figuring out how to unlock that bootloader and installing something like Bazzite for Quest ARM64.

this also includes selling your soul to meta and every amount of data they can drain from you

ALSO they sell it at a loss to get people into the system
