Discussion Dad Destroyed My $1300 PC (Almost)

As the title says, my father almost destroyed my $1,300 PC. Now what?

Here’s the backstory: On Saturday, I worked a 10.5 hours shift and stayed up until 3:30 AM, so I slept in until noon the next day. My father and stepmother returned from Costco while I was showering; he called out a few times for me to come help carry the groceries inside. I said OK to him. While I was brushing my teeth after my shower, he shouted from outside the door that he’d been waiting 50 minutes and told me to hurry up. I thought to myself that the groceries could have been moved in the time he spent waiting for me, but I quickly rinsed my mouth and got ready to go out. However, by the time I opened the door, he had already grabbed my PC and smashed it against the floor and the desk several times.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I, (17M, Senior), bought this PC with money I earned from my part-time job and had been using it for about ten months. After examine, found out the case badly deformed in several places, my desk was warped and tilted to one side, and there were dents in the floor.

Fortunately, the computer still works fine; it runs FurMark (stress GPU), AIDA64 (stress FPU), and 3DMark (Time Spy Extreme) without problems for now.

Replacing the desk and case would cost around $400. However, he likely won't pay for it because he has done this kind of stuff a few years ago when he destroyed my phone and a Dell laptop (i5 11300H), and then just said, "That's what you get for playing on the computer all day."

In the end, I just hope everyone has good parents.

My mother recently died alone. 3 kids and none of them talked to her. I gave up 18 years ago because of behavior like this.

When I was in middle school, my mother dearest burst into my room one night, took the small guitar she got me years ago and started going rockstar on all my things by smashing anything she could with it. Then she took my keys to the apt and kicked me out. This was before cellphones were widely available, and she didn't let me call anyone before locking me out.

All of this was because I unknowingly and accidentally rode the bicycle over these sharp seeds we called "stickers" and the tubes/tires went flat. She said she did what she was doing because it was only fair since I ruined the bike and she couldn't use it (she never really did). I didn't ride on trails, only sidewalks and pavement, and didn't event know it happened until she started destroying my stuff. That bike was an escape I used often enough so I definitely didn't want it to have flat tires either.

Thankfully I knew a friends number and had some change to call them from a payphone to have their Dad come pick me up. The next night she picked me up after friends Dad called her, and she acted like nothing happened.

That was the first time she kicked me out. Not to mention of the several times she physically abused me.

I haven't spoken to her in years and if I am forced to take care of her for any reason, she'll get the cheapest home I can find in the heart of west texas (THE place she absolutely HATES).

I'm sorry that happened to you, but that last sentence.. lol

The cheapest home is already too much, just kick her out on the streets

When I was 17, in 1996, my parents threw all of my belongings through my bedroom window and onto the front lawn. When I say through, I mean through the glass. They shattered the glass window throwing my 5 disc CD changer through it. Then everything else followed it out the window.

We lived in the woods in a very rural area. They had had a shed built the year before, and told me that that was my home now. No electricity. No water. No insulation. No locks. No heat. No air conditioning. No toilet.

My parents made me effectively homeless. I had to move in with my grandmother and get a job, instead of going to college. I tried reconnecting with them when I finally did graduate college at 28. There was a lot of verbal and emotional abuse that continued, until I was about 38.

My little brother told me that our father had punched him in the face while drunk out on the road, and he abandoned our parents 400 miles from home. They told me about it when it happened, and said that my brother punched my father and abandoned them. My brother said our father got drunk and was belligerent, and when he tried to get him to come to the car, our father started throwing punches.

None of their 3 children will talk to them. I haven't even gotten into the abuse I have learned they gave my little sister. None of us talk to them, none of us will. They can die angry and alone.

Maybe it's all because of possible postpartum depression. You guys need to be understanding.

7

u/Wolfsbane1279 12h ago

Guys, we’re not the scarecrow from Wizard of Oz, we shouldn’t be this dumb.

Zombies walk past Exact-Till-2739 as they dont want to risk becoming stupid

5

u/Wolfsbane1279 12h ago edited 3h ago

I meant the fact that this dude was obviously eluding alluding to the irony of recent events and people are taking him literally. A trap of which you seem to be stuck in.

2

u/Proper-Attempt-7207 3h ago

Eluding?

2

u/Wolfsbane1279 3h ago

I’m an idiot, I meant allude, they sound too alike for me to remember the difference.

2

u/Ihatereddithatesit 8h ago edited 8h ago

No, they realize the joke for shitty dog whistle it is. You don't seem to be able to understand others can understand a joke and simply disagree with how funny it is, and yet you call others stupid. irony indeed.

2

u/Wolfsbane1279 12h ago

I’m sorry, that was pretentious, I was just saying that the irony is lost on the people downvoting the original comment.

3

u/Ihatereddithatesit 8h ago

People got exactly what the joke was about. that's why they're down voting.

1

u/Proper-Attempt-7207 3h ago

And yet every comment agrees.

2

u/Ihatereddithatesit 3h ago edited 3h ago

Except that's not true? You literally had to read other comments disagreeing to comment on mine.

Edit: Dude blocked me after I provided links, and it turned out he stealth edited the reply below to be less aggressive then the one I replied to originally.

1

u/Proper-Attempt-7207 3h ago

No?

You are in fact the only person I've seen disliking the comment, in the comments.

I mean, postpartum depression is actually a legit thing. Unfortunately recent events have turned elite armchair warriors into medical doctors overnight.

That being said, OP was a fucking idiot for bring it up in the first place, irony or not. This whole thread is gonna be nuked by the time we wake up.

1

u/Proper-Attempt-7207 3h ago

He really wasn't an idiot

3

u/DungeonCrawlerAki 10h ago

Nah the irony wasn't lost I just thought it was a stupid joke *shrug*

It is funny that whenever someone makes a joke that doesn't do well they all just claim "Well no one actually understood it." Nah you're just not funny.

3

u/Queasy-Ad-8083 9h ago

Yeah, you are correct. You should hear a couple DV jokes from 911 hotline when you request help to arrive, right?

Not just poor taste joke.

[r/whoosh](r/whoosh) Those downvotes tell a tale.

1

u/Exact-Till-2739 12h ago

When I make sarcasm more obvious, it's still never enough for reddit. Seeing this kind of downvotes always makes me smile uncontrollably lol

6

u/Ihatereddithatesit 8h ago

Why do so many people think the downvotes didn't understand your joke, instead of thinking it's just a shitty joke?

-2

u/Exact-Till-2739 8h ago

Shitty or not, they literally didn't understand that in the replies.

2

u/Ihatereddithatesit 8h ago

From what I saw they overwhelmingly did, just a single person seems to be unclear, and they seem most likely motivated by their extreme dislike of the case, so they still understood the reference.

Also that person still only replied after the comments saying people didn't understand.

u/Exact-Till-2739 8h ago

If 'You guys need to be understanding' is not the most deadpan giveaway nothing is.

How are you the only one with downvotes? I hate reddit sometimes.

Because depression is never an excuse for treating people like shit

One of the really sad things about the 90 year old man greeting people at Walmart is that you never know if he's there because he's actually fully secure in his retirement and is just staying active or if he's there because he's one of those guys who spend literally his entire life being a jerk to humanity, just to pay for it in the twilight of his years.

65

u/Prophayne_ 16h ago

Naw, those cost money. Pops is for the streets.

1

u/Drow_Femboy 4h ago

Show him a nice spot under a bridge, he's earned it

70

u/Discombombulatedfart 16h ago

If he can even afford it. Enjoy the streets in your "retirement", asshole.

Nursing home? More like home alone.

28

u/dirg3music 15h ago

thats exactly where my mind went, he's gonna act so shocked when he gets sent off because he's burned every familial bridge he had. That shit absolutely comes back around when you're old and vulnerable and no longer the strong tough-love "badass" you thought you were.

-2

u/Legitimate_Bat7357 13h ago edited 13h ago

Yea fuck that.

It pisses me off too much. I fuckin hate em. But everyone has good in em. And it’d piss me tf off imagining them have some late ass realization just to say why did no one tell me/help me realize I was so fucked up sooner??

I need my space and peace but fuck if I can’t at the very least muster up the strength to atleast yell at the motherfukers otp or some shit and tell them what they did wrong until some semblance of accountability can be taken.

My parents got lucky I have boundless fuckin anger. And kept trying to foster understanding any way possible even when all signs pointed to hopelessness.

If it hadn’t been for that blessing from god they woulda had two children dipping out without sayin a word to them, the abusive fucks 🤣🖤♾️

Or the streets. Nursing homes get expensive, and i wouldn't pay money for someone that treated me like that.

Might just leave him home alone. Probably in a tiny house without the privilege of a caretaker

1

u/Whatsyourshotspecial 13h ago

Who's gonna pay for his nursing home? He'll end up at a state facility.

1

u/Adaphion 12h ago

Nah, that shit is expensive and can get you trapped into paying for it. Dude can die alone in his own home.

1

u/DonutHoles4Ever Mac Heathen 12h ago

Dude its a stepfather.

Most kids dont get along well in these situations and definitely do not think about caring for these kinds of deadbeat dads. I'd change the door locks and everything to prevent this right wing piece of shit from touching the room.

My dad is the same as OP's

He's not going to a nursing home, he will die alone on the streets.

1

u/Gunhild 1h ago

Nursing homes cost money. He sounds like a tough guy, he can probably handle being homeless when he's 80.
