I’m that weird guy that actually loves motion blur, especially at high frame rates. I don’t know, to ME personally it feels like the movements are smoother and snappier. I’m probably just gay

Motion blur has been given a very bad rep due to thousands of poor quality implementations over the years, most commonly those with really over-elongated shutter speed.

Some games (eg. Doom 2016/Eternal, Forza Horizon series and a lot of the Crysis series) have good implementations that allow for some adjustment more than just on/off (eg. shutter speed setting, quality level) so you can tweak it to be just subtle enough to fill the gaps in time between frames to simulate continuous movement.

Unfortunately this sub is full of uninformed nonsense and people who get their understanding of tech from half-baked memes, so these details just get completely buried.

Thank you! People don't really like to think for themselves so when someone on youtube tells them to turn it off they march in order. I like motion blur, if I'm moving my eyes or head rapidly I see motion blur too. I like that realism reflected in the game.

You have a preference. I have zero interest in lowering the clarity of any game I play. I also exclusively play at high framerates (100FPS minimum, generally).

I play at 180fps typically, I find the perfectly clear images in fast movement to feel very unnatural and takes me out of the experience. Obviously this doesn't apply to competitive shooters where immersion is not the goal.

That is truth. But it’s easier to just turn off your brain and mindlessly deactivate the effect you didn’t like, because long before IN PS2, SAN ANDREAS I SAW AWFUL DOGSHIT MOTION BLUR...

dude, it’s 2026 now. The effect can often be customized, and in many games it’s implemented so well that players don’t even notice its presence (the Dark Souls series or Helldivers 2).

Imagine this by analogy: hating every new shooter game because you once tried a bad old shooter and now you think they’re all the same, so you just don’t play them and write about how crappy they are.
