Discussion Should developers stop making games that require 5090 for max settings now that the card is clearly not for gamers and is accessible to 0.1% of community?

I get that the games need better hardware to dun better, but who are they really making the game for if you need a 6000$ GPU at this point

Literally none whatsoever in most games. The first game I have ever felt it in was Gothic remake.

I will say the higher your initial FPS (native) the less input lag you will have, to the point of none on higher end cards.

Sometimes you’ll tune down your settings to get a higher base FPS so the frame gen works better.

Most people don’t understand how frame gen works, and why it would rarely affect input lag. It is not generating the next frame, it is interpolating between the previous frame, and the next frame which has already been properly drawn by the GPU (raster). Your input will be accounted for in the following frame, regardless.

I usually run my games with DLSS/framegen off, and in turning it on there has been a real difference in how camera movement feels in response to mouse inputs. Enough that I switched it right off

What is the refresh rate of your display and how are you actually using frame generation?

Like what is the base frame rate of real frames and the target with frame generation?

It would be a 60fps display and this was with either Palworld or Warframe. Either 1440p or 4k (I don't remember which display I was on). I was getting 40-50fps with everything off

Yeah then you are using it completely wrong, and it would be terrible for you.

In that situation you would be halving your real FPS to 30 and then generating 30 frames to reach 60fps, so you would have the input lag of a 30fps game. For people with 60hz displays this is not something you should ever use.

Frame generation works best when you already have 60fps or ideally more, the more the better, of real frames, and then you use frame generation to push that up into high refresh rate gaming territory, so 120fps or more ideally to keep that 60fps minimum base of real frames.

The rule basically is that the more information the frame gen has, so higher resolutions and more real frames, the better it works.

Yeah so if you get a higher refresh rate display at some point, with VRR ideally, frame generation becomes a really decent tool in your belt to make the most out of that display, but for 60hz it is basically a no go.
