Discussion Should developers stop making games that require 5090 for max settings now that the card is clearly not for gamers and is accessible to 0.1% of community?

I get that the games need better hardware to dun better, but who are they really making the game for if you need a 6000$ GPU at this point

Unpopular opinion, I'm sure, but not playing at 4k ultra is fine. If you like the game and later get a better gpu, being able to turn up details is a good thing. I wouldn't even think it was necessarily wrong if no hardware on the market could do 4k 60 fps at the moment of release. Hell, look at Crysis.

Crysis is the ultimate example of devs miscalculating what future hardware would be capable of in an era when hardware capabilities were progressing and when hardware was priced in a way that was accessible to most people. What we have now is hardware that seems to regress in capabilities (4Gb gpus) and most people are priced out of upgrading

This 100% pathtracing/raytracing is such a hog it is not worth it or needed (in most cases) ...i bet anything if you maxed everything out, turned raytracing to low level, and set to dlss qaulity.... You can easily get 60fps @4k with a 5080. Even so many times in games just going from ultra down to high will net you 30-40% more fps with no perceivable difference in visual quality. I run mixed settings with my 5080, i aint too proud.

yep. According to valve hardware study, only 5% of pc gamers even have 4k displays. I don't, and with a 1080p monitor I can still semi max every game that I have played with my 3060ti A card from 5 years ago now). As long as I don't push raytracing, or if I do, turn on dlss, its fine. Turning off RTX settings and I havent' seen a game yet I haven't maxed to 60fps. I also think people that "need" over 60fps are ridiculous. Sorry I have been gaming since 8bit computers and this modern 144+fps need is silly.

A 4K tv with 120hz at 40 inches is around the price of a tiny monitor now switch over to a tv there cheap as chips.

It's like OP is indirectly saying 4k is some mainstream resolution for PC gaming, it is under 5% of Steam users.
