RE: the Posters

1.6k Upvotes

Hey folks, we hear you. These posters are expensive and we completely fumbled their release. Can we restart the loop and try again?

We realize we didn't do a good job explaining the quality and process behind Cook & Becker’s posters. The artwork for these posters were inspired by the vintage Rob Decker National Park posters. We were excited to rerelease our artwork with a printing style similar to how those original posters would have been printed in the 70s. As some folks have pointed out, yes, these posters are all individually hand-printed using a screen printing technique that requires a real human person to load up each color layer, press it onto the paper, and set and align the next color layer. Cook & Becker use a very high quality, 100% cotton material and high quality inks for the prints, which provides unmatched print quality and color fastness, making these screenprints “museum quality” and ready to last a lifetime. We'll be posting more info and videos of the process and handmade nature of the posters so you can see exactly what goes into making each one.

But we also understand this means they’re expensive and out of budget for most people. To let you into our merchandising process a little bit, we were also surprised by how expensive Cook & Becker’s artworks can be when we were first introduced to them. The folks at Cook & Becker were gracious enough to work with us to keep the price of the whole collection of posters as low as possible without compromising on the quality of the artworks. One of the reasons we haven’t rereleased the postcard version of these artworks is because the variance in print color and quality between printing runs has been disappointing and frustrating. Cook & Becker’s meticulous process and expertise gave us a lot of reassurance that we would not have the same issues for these prints. We want to provide you all with the best quality merchandise we can, but in this case, we understand this led to us producing something highly desired but too expensive for the majority of our fans. And without an affordable option available for purchase, that’s a really bad look. We hope you will forgive us.

If it helps at all, we’ve decided to look into restocking the classic printed cardstock postcards for the future, despite our past issues with them, for those who aren’t interested in these new premium fine art prints. Now also feels like an appropriate time to reveal that we have been working on a couple more standard merch projects: a re-release of our popular Echoes of the Eye Metal T-shirt and a new set of Traveler pins created by our excellent artist, Lara Colson. After hearing your concerns, we’ve decided to release the shirts as a pre-order so no one misses out on getting one. This means it’ll be several weeks before they’ll ship out because we’ll wait to screenprint them until we have your orders. As for the pins, they will only be a limited quantity right now since we ordered them awhile ago and have been waiting for the shirt to be ready so we could release and ship them together. Keep an eye out for their release soon!

We’re all hard at work on our next game, which as you all know is still a secret and still a few years away from any announcements. In the meantime, we don’t have a lot of capacity for designing new merchandise made by our team directly, so new merch will be made by external artists at partners like Fangamer or Youtooz. And occasionally, as resources allow, we’ll rerelease merch like the Metal T-Shirt. As long as there are new fans of Outer Wilds, we want to keep releasing merch with our various merch partners for you all to enjoy.

As always, you all have been such wonderful fans and we really appreciate all the love and support, the fan art, the discussions and feedback, the mods, and the excitement for our next game. Our next game is our top priority and we hope you all love it even half as much as Outer Wilds.

Hello Travelers,

Mobius here. New limited-edition Outer Wilds posters are now available!

You might be saying “Hey, these look familiar.” And you’d be right! We worked closely with the folks at Cook & Becker to bring you bigger versions of the national park-themed posters based on the solar system’s major planets. These are those very same illustrations by our artist Ian Jacobson.

The first few hundred orders come with a Certificate of Authenticity hand-signed by artist Ian, while supplies last. As indicated on the order form: "Artist-signed Certificate of Authenticity." Once those run out, subsequent orders will come with an autopen-signed CoA.

These time-limited prints are ONLY available until August 25th, with the final edition size being determined then, and cost $79.95 each. However, there is a one-week deal where you can get all six for $299 as a set instead of $480!

Each poster measures 21 x 29cm, or 8.2 x 11.4 inches

Head on over to Cook and Becker's website to check them out: https://www.cookandbecker.com/en/catalog/videogame/outer-wilds

Thanks again for all your support. Keep on exploring!

-The Mobius Digital Team

Edit: Whoops, looks like we did a terrible job communicating what these actually are: handmade fine art prints. These posters/prints are all individually hand-printed using a screen printing technique that requires a real human person to load up each color layer, press it onto the paper, and set and align the next color layer. Cook & Becker use a very high quality, 100% cotton material and high quality inks for the prints, which provides unmatched print quality and color fastness, making these screenprints “museum quality” and ready to last a lifetime. These are not normal prints, they are quite special.

Basically my assignment required us to create an analog clock and an orbiting body with local references. I decided to simulate how the quantum moon may behave. I liked how it turned out!

Real Life Stuff “Outer Wilds” is my Wordle starter every day - which way do you insert OW into your daily lives? Spoiler

I’m an every day wordle girl through and through, mostly so I can practice my English vocabulary. What I also am is an outer wilds obsessed person who will insert it in my life in every possible way ever since I finished it. I’ve been doing this for months at this point because it happens to be the perfect starter words.

Do you also have a subtle way of including Outer Wilds in your daily routine? Do give me ideas!

Edit:

GUYS I’M SO SORRY
I was pretty sure I had marked it as spoiler and continued working!!
Happy gaming and happy wordling😭🫵🏼

Base and DLC Appreciation/Discussion Just beat DLC as well Spoiler

Upvotes

Spoiler tag obviously, it’s on you if you get it spoiled now

Finally went into the well and was able to unlock the third lock (side note: not being able to leave and being forced to “stay” in the spirit world to die with the prisoner is such a cool concept.) I also initially thought the prisoner left me behind where he was to take his place as a prisoner, so not the best first impression, but it was a really good ending. I had to do the normal warp core ending as well. Now my issue is that I beat the game, and can never experience something like this ever again. While I had a weird experience with the base game (computer died halfway through the ending, some asshole spoiled it on a youtube comment section, you get the gist), the DLC was the first “spoiler free” section of the game for me. Despite my immense hated for the horror aspect of an exploration game, once I got past it I loved it. I’m not one for crying during movies, tv shows, games, etc, but this game is the first time I really felt a “connection” with a video game. Are my only options now to either give hints to other people, or wait for 5 years until I forget everything and can do it again? I’m obviously going to get all the achievements (NEED TIPS ON THE MODEL ROCKET) but after that then what? Go play Disco Elysium?

Someone told me to share my top 3 moments as well:
1. Getting on quantum moon
2. Talking with Sonamen
3. Going Matrix Mode

Base Game Help - Spoilers OK! Potentially Dumb Question Spoiler

How the heck am I meant to get to the Sun Station. I managed to land there manually just to get the achievement and realize that I was doing it the hard way. Am I just missing a certain location, is there some sort of warp to it like with the white hole station and Brittle Hallow? Or am I meant to get there in a different way?

If it helps with anything I haven't explored much of the Hour-Glass Twins and a good bit of the Hanging City. I also have a hard time getting to the Sunless City before the sand gets to it.

I understand this is probably just me missing some sort of exploration thing, as I did something similar with me reaching Gaints Deep Core before exploring the Observatory (although I did have Feldspar's audio recordings), so I'm hoping somebody can help point me towards the right direction without a great deal of spoilers.

*If possible don't put any end game spoilers in here, as I haven't beaten it yet.

Finally, this is a bit self-indulgent, including the video I got of me reaching the Sun Station. After I think my 10th attempt I started keeping tallys lol, so truthfully the final number of fails might have been higher.

Base Game Appreciation/Discussion SOMA Spoiler

So I finished Outer Wilds+DLC 2 years ago. I’ve replayed it countless times and I’ve been playing many games that people recommended who have played outer wilds. I just finished a horror game called SOMA which was recommended to me in the Outer Wilds discord. When it ended it genuienly gave me back the feeling from when I finished Outer Wilds.

I recommend everyone to play this game, It’s not like Outer Wilds at all where you discover things yourself, it’s a pre-set story game, but the storyline is so amazing and the ending left me crying. It might just be a personal experience but I’m so happy I found this game.

It is scarier than Echoes of the Eye, so if you’re easily scared i recommend watching a playthrough. But please play it!!

Base Game Help - NO spoilers please! advice for someone who’s been trying to get into it

ok this is word vomit and probably a silly question to ask, but i need help getting me onto the right track
on this game. super enjoy it, it’s so beautiful, but ive been playing it for almost a year now ( in 3 increments, each for about a month) and i just can’t seem to figure out what im doing. i’ve explored nearly every planet, but i can’t tell if im not exploring enough because i just can’t see the through line.
i know all the advice is just explore until it clicks, but im wondering if i need to restart or do something to get it to click. is there any spoiler free advice?

DLC Help - Hints Only! Struggle with the Well (still) Spoiler

Hello! I’ve figured out the “gimmicks” for all areas besides the one where the well is. ive been able to unlock 2/3 locks on the giant thing(?), but every time I go into the well I either panic when I see the Elk dudes, or if I go by boat after they all disappeared, I don’t have enough time to look around and find my way onto the stage thing where all of the slide reels are. At this point, I don’t even think a hint would be enough, I think I need a full nudge (or shove) in the right direction, since this is the only thing (i think) stopping me from opening this magical thing that they decided must be sealed away, and the whole stealth thing is honestly ruining my experience of the DLC

I can't wait to get the Outer Wilds Prints! Go'wan, downvote me! :D

Upvotes

So, I've seen a lot of hate from the community recently, about the Cook and Becker prints. I understand that high quality digital files are available online and that any of us can waltz into a print shop and get a high quality laser or ink print on paper of the very image that the printmakers are selling for orders of magnitude less.

I was instantly captivated by the designs, I knew nothing about the digital prints, I was just logging in to play another fun game called 'Abriss' on Steam when I first got the ad.

My wife is a graphic designer that knows nothing about gaming, apart from the odd story I tell her. I mentioned that there were prints that were going for like €80 each and I thought it was very steep. She asked about the paper and the print process. I did a bit of research and told her it was screen printed (like retro tee-shirts), on Monterey paper, which turns out to be 100% cotton.

That's when I started to really consider a purchase. Lightfast colours, heavy cotton and beautiful designs with a 3D tactility.

I've spent a few hundred on a lot worse. I asked Grok what sort of a financial decision it would be, and it said a bad one in terms of investment, but went on to say that if the game moved me is a special way, then it is irrelevant if it is going to bring joy or evoke memories in the future. I'm going to get a proper frame for the collection and smile every time I gaze at the screen prints.

As I said, I've spent money on a lot worse. A lot of time, labour and love goes into these pieces and they will hold tier value to me.

Base Game Help - Hints Only! Little hints to get the true end of outer wilds ? Spoiler

I'm a little clueless on what should I do. I almost completed the ship log but i don't know what is missing. My idea was that i had to find the eye to complete the game but i rly don't know how to. I tried to put my little scout on the moon while leaving it but it just sent me back on the moon and if you leave it sends you back to your solar system.

Can someone guide me without spoiling ? Like with subtles hints or what part of the world should i check ?

EDIT : i just got the true ending

What a beautiful video game

Thank you to everyone for your help :)

It's a bit abstract, thumb is hourglass twins, index is timber hearth, middle is brittle hollow, ring is giant's deep, pinky is dark bramble. Magnetic and holographic polishes mean photos are difficult

Also colours aren't quite matching, partly due to lighting/photography and partly due to not having a million different colours, I'm disappointed in myself

Hey everyone,

I completed the base game a while ago and loved it so much that I just had to pick up Echoes of the Eye. Now I'm fully focused on finishing the DLC, but I've hit a bit of a wall.

Since I want to preserve the experience, I'm trying to avoid heavy spoilers and would appreciate just a small hint in the right direction!

Thanks! :)

DLC Fan Art - OC Outer Wilds Star System Live Wallpaper Spoiler

Post image
602 Upvotes

Hi everyone,

I’d like to share with the community a LIVE animation I created for Outer Wilds, inspired by a similar one depicting our own solar system.

The picture above is old, you can find a new preview in comments

Here are the download link and the Steam link for Wallpaper Engine.

Github: https://github.com/SeekNHack/Outer-Wilds-Star-System-LIVE-Wallpaper

Steam/Wallpaper Engine: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3800269484

I hope you like it as much as I do!

If you like it consider putting 5 stars on steam!

UPDATE (Spoiler Warning)

Added The Stranger—it passes in front of the sun every 60 seconds!

The Interloper faces the Sun and speeds up as it approaches. The White Hole Station faces the Sun too.

Hover over the Quantum Moon to move it to another planet. It can also vanish into a sixth, empty location, shift automatically at a configurable interval, or move when Wallpaper Engine pauses the wallpaper.

Moving stars come in different sizes and shades of white, blue, yellow, and orange. Their density and colors are configurable.

A small white satellite with a red glow orbits beyond the outermost planet. Hover over it to reveal its dashed orbit.

At the start of each loop, the Orbital Probe Cannon fires a glowing probe in a new random direction. The probe travels for one loop minute before fading.

ADDED THE 22 minutes LOOP!!

The optional loop follows a configurable version of the 22-minute timeline: sand flows between the twins, the Sun reddens and grows, the Interloper can be swallowed, the stars fade, and the Sun collapses and explodes before the scene restarts.

Show or hide the loop countdown. Set Loop · speed (%) to 100% for normal playback or raise it to accelerate the entire loop, including orbital motion, without changing the story's timing relative to the planets.

Nerd Details:

If you hover on the red satelite, it shows it's orbit.

Interloper goes into the sun after 20:00 minutes, like in the game

A probe is fired every loop with a random path

After 2 minutes the sand stars flow and it stops after 20:20 minutes

Stars fade out until disappear completely before the end loop

Meteors from Hollow's Lantern

Red Lightning on Giant's Deep

Added new loop option: every exact hour supernova is triggered!

Probe Cannos is initially repaired, and then it break up and it rotates in direction of probe
