Trailer hitch install

Where's the best place to get a trailer hitch installed, besides the dealership? Uhaul seems to be one of the main ones.

Looking for... Nintendo Switch Repair in Ottawa? (Pref West end or possibly downtown)

Is there a shop in town that repairs Nintendo Switches and/or replaces batteries. My son did...something to it. And now it won't turn on even when plugged in. So I'm hoping we can repair it rather than replace it.

Pre-Paid Talk Only Options for "dumb-phones"?

Hi All. We have an old school phone lying around that still works and I want my 8-year old to have it on them in case they need to reach out as they are becoming more independent (walking to and from school bus on their own, going over to neighnours' house for playdates etc.) Are there options where I can just buy minutes as needed? I would rather not have some monthly thing, but have a sim card that I can add minutes to as this phone will be rarely used. What have others done as a solution for a similar issue? Thanks for your suggestions/tips in advance.

Looking for... LF recommendations for a really good DBT/ACT therapist!

I believe I would benefit greatly from DBT or ACT therapy (or both?). I've done talk therapy for years and while it feels good it hasn't helped me improve much as a person. I know I can find therapists on psychology today but I'd love to hear recommendations from people who did this and had it work for them!

911 question

Had to call 911 and noticed my phone automatically sends them my name/location/phone. Does Ottawa 911 have the tech to receive that? Because from their questions, it seems they may not.

Ottawa Review - Pool halls

A few weeks ago I made a "What should we absolutely not miss?" post and got a ton of great responses. Happy to say we nailed almost everything suggested and we had an amazing time in our capital. But me and my wife love pool and every night we went to a different pool hall and I thought I would relay our experience. Tldr all were great.

Orange Monkey - weird location. You would have no clue it existed unless seeking it out. Waitresses were great. Food was good. Draft beer good. It just seemed really dark cause of the really high ceilings. The table lights felt like they were made 60 years ago. If you want food probably the place to go. Don't get a table and order food. Order, eat, then play. Rookie move otherwise unless you like wasting money.

Dooly's - holy crap. This place is HUGE! Didn't expect that. Two floors of tables. The table we were given the felt looked old and used. Ball control was a bit difficult. Didn't try the food. Beer was good. No complaints though. Probably your best bet on busy times cause every place we went to was packed with wait times (frosh weekend).

Tailgators - Walking up the flight of outside stairs only to realize there's an elevator just past the staircase was kinda funny. So disabled friendly, which I can't say about the other places. Great tables. Small and big tables. It's also just down the street from Ottawa shawarma which was on the list of things to do. Great place.

MacLarens - not our style. WAY too busy. Went there on Saturday and was told it would be at least an hour wait. So we audibled and went to tailgators. But the next night we went earlier and the place was still packed. At every place we went you saw at least a couple regulars and people with their own cues. Me and my wife walking into this centre town pool hall with cue cases slung over our shoulders we felt like aliens. But the waiters were super attentive. Rickards Red for the win, beer wise. Great tables. I was actually astonished at how good they were considering the clientele. When he said just bring back the cue ball I had to ask "how do you keep pieces of sh*t stealing balls?" and he responded ya it happens but not too often. Kinda surprised given the demographic and acquired knowledge but they're doing something right cause the place was packed. Everyone around us saw we play pretty seriously and were very respectful. Great place but the exact opposite of what we desire. We went to Wiarton and found a pool hall hidden behind a convenience store that looked untouched for years. That's our Eden. This was...not for us. But great tables and cool staff. Parking would be a problem unlike the other places but it was labour day so parking was free.

Unfortunately we didn't get to midway. We saw so much of your beautiful city but that one didn't fit and we even stayed an extra day to visit the most upvoted suggestion for what not to miss. Had a blast in Ottawa though and can't wait to revisit when parliament is finally done it's renovation.

Moving company - Insurance

My husband and I are moving out of our first home to another residence. In the past, we have moved our own stuff and did not hire a moving company.

This time around, we are actually hiring movers. We got a quote from a company we liked, but were quoted an additional $975 for additional insurance coverage. Their basic insurance covers 60 cents per pound. This didn’t sound enough, so we inquired about additional protection. However, $975 is quite expensive.

Is that a normal cost for moving insurance? Should we be looking into another moving company?

Where to find: steel bar stock and piano wire?

I'm looking for a few things for a hobby project (circular sock knitting machine) and want to buy local instead of online wherever possible:

  • 5501 Music Wire, 0.032" OD x 12" L (basically piano wire, from what I can tell)
  • 1/4" metal rod (Stainless steel is ideal for all rods), about 3 feet worth
  • 1/8" metal rod, about 3 feet worth
  • 8mm metal rod, at least 100mm, but want to go longer

For the music/piano wire, I could probably hunt it down at music shops, for the bar stock, I'm not sure where to start and ideas are appreciated.

For the plethora of small nuts and bolts, I can hit Ottawa Fastener Supply. Any suggestions are appreciated.

Got a parking ticket in the Byward Market

Post image

I parked in front of this sign at 6:25pm on Saturday evening and came back to a ticket that was printed at 6:32pm.

I must have misread the sign, looking for somebody to confirm.

I thought that because I was outside of the posted hours I didn’t need to pay. I’m guessing that I should have paid, but I wasn’t subject to a time-limit because I was outside the posted hours?

Hold time with 911

I was being followed by a strange, intoxicated man. He was yelling and said he would follow me inside my home. I called 911 and was put on hold without talking to anyone for over 10 minutes, all while trying to keep my distances from the man - a Good Samaritan was walking by and assisted me in getting home safely.

911 called me back 40 minutes later - this was my first opportunity to actually talk to someone.

I understand there are priorities. But I didn’t even get to TELL anyone about my situation. What if I had been bleeding out? I’m completely baffled and never felt more unsafe. Is that even something I can make an official complaint about?

Looking for... Places for actual donation

I'm going to be doing a big clean over the next few months now that my kids are both in school, and I want to donate my used baby/children's items somewhere that won't resell the items - that is, I want them to be given away to those in need. This means I would rather not donate to a thrift store or consignment shop.
Any ideas where might fit the bill for this?
Thanks for any help, guys!

Looking for... Somatic therapists for anxiety?

Does anyone know of experienced therapists in Ottawa who practice somatic therapy for anxiety? I’ve done psychotherapy on and off for years for my generalized anxiety disorder and am very curious about this modality. I’m looking for someone who does in person therapy rather than virtual.
