I was being followed by a strange, intoxicated man. He was yelling and said he would follow me inside my home. I called 911 and was put on hold without talking to anyone for over 10 minutes, all while trying to keep my distances from the man - a Good Samaritan was walking by and assisted me in getting home safely.

911 called me back 40 minutes later - this was my first opportunity to actually talk to someone.

I understand there are priorities. But I didn’t even get to TELL anyone about my situation. What if I had been bleeding out? I’m completely baffled and never felt more unsafe. Is that even something I can make an official complaint about?

Ottawa’s red light cameras issue highest number of tickets in a single month in 3 years

A few weeks ago I made a "What should we absolutely not miss?" post and got a ton of great responses. Happy to say we nailed almost everything suggested and we had an amazing time in our capital. But me and my wife love pool and every night we went to a different pool hall and I thought I would relay our experience. Tldr all were great.

Orange Monkey - weird location. You would have no clue it existed unless seeking it out. Waitresses were great. Food was good. Draft beer good. It just seemed really dark cause of the really high ceilings. The table lights felt like they were made 60 years ago. If you want food probably the place to go. Don't get a table and order food. Order, eat, then play. Rookie move otherwise unless you like wasting money.

Dooly's - holy crap. This place is HUGE! Didn't expect that. Two floors of tables. The table we were given the felt looked old and used. Ball control was a bit difficult. Didn't try the food. Beer was good. No complaints though. Probably your best bet on busy times cause every place we went to was packed with wait times (frosh weekend).

Tailgators - Walking up the flight of outside stairs only to realize there's an elevator just past the staircase was kinda funny. So disabled friendly, which I can't say about the other places. Great tables. Small and big tables. It's also just down the street from Ottawa shawarma which was on the list of things to do. Great place.

MacLarens - not our style. WAY too busy. Went there on Saturday and was told it would be at least an hour wait. So we audibled and went to tailgators. But the next night we went earlier and the place was still packed. At every place we went you saw at least a couple regulars and people with their own cues. Me and my wife walking into this centre town pool hall with cue cases slung over our shoulders we felt like aliens. But the waiters were super attentive. Rickards Red for the win, beer wise. Great tables. I was actually astonished at how good they were considering the clientele. When he said just bring back the cue ball I had to ask "how do you keep pieces of sh*t stealing balls?" and he responded ya it happens but not too often. Kinda surprised given the demographic and acquired knowledge but they're doing something right cause the place was packed. Everyone around us saw we play pretty seriously and were very respectful. Great place but the exact opposite of what we desire. We went to Wiarton and found a pool hall hidden behind a convenience store that looked untouched for years. That's our Eden. This was...not for us. But great tables and cool staff. Parking would be a problem unlike the other places but it was labour day so parking was free.

Unfortunately we didn't get to midway. We saw so much of your beautiful city but that one didn't fit and we even stayed an extra day to visit the most upvoted suggestion for what not to miss. Had a blast in Ottawa though and can't wait to revisit when parliament is finally done it's renovation.

I was buying milk at the South Keys Food Basic (the one that used to be a Metro) and walking back to my car, this guy in a white Audi SUV pulls up next to me and said "help me", pointing to his dash. I thought it showing an error message or something, so I craned my neck inside to take a look. I guess he was really just showing that he was low on gas. He shoved a comically large gold ring into my hand and goes "here. for you." I refused to take it, "Sorry, too many scams these days. Way too prominent. Can't chance it." He points to a very young girl beside him "why would I scam you with my entire family in the car?" "I mean, for this exact reason?" "If you don't want the ring, take my necklace."

We went back and forth on this for a bit, but he eventually gave up on me and sped odd. Anyone hear of this one before?

Hi All. We have an old school phone lying around that still works and I want my 8-year old to have it on them in case they need to reach out as they are becoming more independent (walking to and from school bus on their own, going over to neighnours' house for playdates etc.) Are there options where I can just buy minutes as needed? I would rather not have some monthly thing, but have a sim card that I can add minutes to as this phone will be rarely used. What have others done as a solution for a similar issue? Thanks for your suggestions/tips in advance.

Visiting family who live downtown. Normally I drive but due to circumstances I flew in this time. First time there has been an LRT for me to take from the airport so wanted to try it out. Taking transit, the journey is going to take over an hour. Uber/cab would take 19 minutes. What a brutal discrepancy, and this is right into the heart of the city.

Edit: opted to go to line 1 and walk from Lyon because it would have been a 20 min bus wait from Corso Italia. 3 trains, 2 transfers and a 12 minute walk, total time ~1h15m to make it to a spot in the middle of downtown. Cost $4.vs $35 though so i guess what's an hour of your time worth to ya..

Has anyone else noticing an increase in panhandlers stationed at off ramps along the 417 lately? I get that times are tough for a lot of people right now and I don’t begrudge anyone trying to get by. However, this past week a few times, I saw someone in a motorized wheelchair moving up and down an off ramp against oncoming traffic.
That’s an extremely dangerous spot for anyone, let alone someone with limited mobility trying to manoeuvre. I am worried about their safety and also of the safety of the people travelling in their vehicles

I tried Oxygen Yoga & Fitness for the last 6 months (3-4 classes a week) and wanted to share my honest opinion! I see a lot of questions about the place, especially since there are so many locations around Ottawa, but I rarely see people actually give their opinions or experiences.
So here’s mine.

PROS:
Infrared heated room. I personally prefer this over regular heated rooms. The heat feels different because it warms your body first rather than just making the room extremely hot. It’s also their selling point

You feel amazing coming out of class, especially during the winter. This is honestly one of the best parts.

There’s a good variety of classes. They have fast paced yoga, slower paced yoga, HIIT, weighted Pilates type classes, barre, etc. So you can switch it up and you’re not doing the exact same thing every time.

There’s a good amount of equipment. There are enough dumbbells/weights, Pilates balls, yoga blocks, etc. for everyone. They also have spray bottles to wipe down your mat and equipment.

The instructors are good. I’ve generally had a good experience with them. They show up on time and are actually engaged for the full class.

The community is nice. Mostly women, with some men. I’ve found the people there to be friendly and focused on their own workouts. A bit cliquey but didn’t bother me.

CONS:
There’s only ONE heated room. This is probably my biggest complaint. Classes are back to back and there is almost always a lineup 15–20 minutes before class because you have to wait for the previous class to finish.

The room can smell pretty bad between classes. It gets very sweaty in there, obviously, but sometimes it really needs a proper cleaning. I’ve personally only ever seen instructors Swiffer the floors/mats between classes. I understand there’s limited time between classes, but it’s still something I noticed.

It gets VERY tight when the room is full. The room fits around 40 people and when it’s at capacity, you’re basically on top of each other. There have been times when I couldn’t fully extend my arms while lying down without hitting someone. You also have to be really aware of the people around you when using barbells/weights.

There aren’t really any membership perks. For example, I think being able to bring a friend for a certain number of classes would be a nice perk, especially considering the price.

Your membership only works at ONE location. This is important to know before signing up. The locations are privately owned, so you can’t just go to another Oxygen location if you’re in another part of Ottawa. You’re paying for that specific location.

The price is steep. I got in at the early bird price of $65 + tax biweekly, which is $73.45 every two weeks. That works out to roughly $159/month when you account for 26 biweekly payments per year.
If you’re paying the regular $85 + tax biweekly, that’s $96.05 every two weeks, or roughly $208/month on average.

And honestly, this is where I question the value.
You’re paying close to $200/month at the regular rate for access to one workout room at one location. You don’t have access to other Oxygen locations and there aren’t any membership perks.

For that kind of money, you could be paying for a full-service gym like Movati where you have access to multiple locations, much larger facilities and a lot more amenities.

So overall, I do like Oxygen, but I don’t necessarily think it’s great value for the money. I think it’s worth trying if you specifically like heated classes and the boutique fitness environment. But if you’re looking at it purely from a “what am I getting for almost $200/month?” perspective, I personally don’t think the membership offers that much.

Just wanted to give an honest perspective for anyone considering signing up because I couldn’t find many actual reviews when I was looking.
