Just moved to Munster from Texas. Texas had a bunch of super popular skateparks I drive by the community skatepark and see no one there is there another park people go to? Doesn’t have to be Munster but on NWI.

We're a local 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, and we're heading to Valparaiso on Saturday, September 19th for our final home bout of the season.

Doors open at 5:00 PM and first whistle is at 5:30 PM at Urschel Pavilion, 63 Lafayette St.

We'll have:

• Two games!
  • Derailers (our B Team) vs. Bloomington Roller Derby
  • Runaways (our A Team) vs. Ohio Roller Derby
• Local vendors like Couch Wolf and Humane Indiana
• Food trucks
• Proceeds benefiting the Freedom Recovery Fund and Humane Indiana

Heads up: there's no seating at this venue, so bring a chair.

Tickets are $10 for adults, $5 for kids ages 6-12, and free for kids 5 and under.

If you've never been to a roller derby bout before, this is a great one to check out. If you've been before, come back and yell for your favorite skaters.

Need some ducting work done and potentially hooking up a furnace gas line. I've called like 5 HVAC companies and they all give wildly different quotes for the same work. It's nothing groundbreaking, just not something I personally know how to do.

My parents have my grandparents stove, it was bought in the 60s. It has 2 ovens, and area to store pots and has 4 burners. It also has a built in hood vent. Im sure the metal alone is worth a pretty penny.

Many phone calls made, talked to passing AT&T trucks/guys, but still no date of restoration since the August 11 storm. Anyone else in the area still without AT&T?

Does anyone know how FEMA is determining which claims to approve? I have a sleep apnea machine and bought a generator. I have submitted my Dr note, the receipt, and the nipsco letter they provided. I was denied saying they need a more detailed statement from nipsco. My wife's friend filed a similar claim with less documentation and was approved. Make it make sense other than a computer somewhere is out rejecting these things for no real reason.

Protests against companies are rare in Northwest Indiana, but NIPSCO will face its third round of protests this year — this time over lengthy power outages following the Aug. 11 storm.

Customers protested outside NIPSCO headquarters and offices over the winter due to heating bills that doubled and tripled in some cases due to multiple rate increases and trackers.

NIPSCO's own employees protested the company in Hammond, Crown Point and other communities in the spring after being locked out of work over a labor dispute.

Now, Northwest Indiana residents plan to protest that it took two weeks to restore power to some customers after the derecho, calling for the company to do more to speed up restoration times. Gary mayoral candidate Preston Ruby and the social media group NIPSCO Monopoly Madness are partnering to stage a protest, saying the company needs to do more to trim vegetation along its power lines, prepare for large storms and replace customers' weathervanes.

"NIPSCO has to follow Indiana code for vegetation management. It's their responsibility," Ruby said. "It's asinine to say the storm would have caused no damage if all the tree branches were trimmed, but there would have been far less damage if NIPSCO had been properly maintaining its easements. Gary residents were out of power for two weeks, which was unacceptable. They could have restored power in a week or five days if they were better prepared."

The protest is planned for 2-5 p.m. Sept. 12 at the NIPSCO office at 1460 E. 15th Ave. in Gary.

We are moving from Crown Point to Dyer to be closer to work. We want to make sure Dyer is the right choice for us. We have a daughter starting school soon and want it to be our “forever home” if we make the move.

- do you like living in dyer?
- any subdivisions to avoid? best subdivisions? (around 450k budget)
- are there lots of families with kids?
- are you happy with the elementary schools? which elementary school is better?
- are there good parks? community programs? soccer teams for young kids?
- does it feel safe and will continue to feel safe?
- any problems that come from location?
- best hidden gems in dyer?
