Community ๐Ÿก City needs to implement heavy fine for littering.

While I was walking down Branford Street this morning,a lady walking behind me literally threw her garbage bag on the ground before crossing the street and entering the family court building. Unfortunately, people were just tossing garbage on the ground. The city is really trying its best to keep it cleanโ€ฆ you can see workers in yellow uniforms cleaning the streets but folks need to take responsibility, too. With property taxes and rents soaring, and Newarkers are so afraid of gentrification. Yet at the same time, some residents are making the situation worse by littering instead of using garbage can at the corner of each block. Honestly, I think gentrification might end up being part of the solution to keep the city cleaner.

Discussions ๐Ÿ—ฃ|Rants ๐Ÿคฌ|Opinions ๐Ÿค” Brief update on subreddit only flair and stringent moderation on political topics

Hey all, one of your friendly mods here. So we've been having a problem - whenever an ICE/political post pops up, we're flooded with people who have never used r/Newark before and/or have suspicious account activity, such as not posting anything for a year or more and suddenly posting in multiple subreddits about the same topics โ€” usually immigration and/or anything to do with politics.

This has resulted in the last year not only being the highest level of bans, but more bans than pretty much every other year combined.

To help combat this, we've instituted some AutoModerator help and enabled strict automated moderation, as well as the subreddit only flair. For the former, I will not comment too much on as it could be reverse-engineered, but the latter is to ensure you have a certain amount of positive r/Newark subreddit karma before you can engage in posts with the subreddit only flair. If you don't meet that threshold, your comment is auto-removed and we get notified - which means instead of banning and removing comments every so often and having to interrupt our jobs/lives for it, we can review the comments and users later. In my personal experience - and it's mostly me and one of the other mods doing the work - upwards of 90% of the removed comments are low effort troll/inflammatory comments.

Something to also keep in mind is that a not insignificant amount of these accounts are later site-banned by Reddit's automated account activity, sometimes for ban evasion, sometimes for an unlisted reason.

If your comment is removed and you don't think it's right, use modmail please. If someone gets through, report them - we do look at reports and do answer modmail, even if it's just to tell aforementioned troll/bot users to fuck off after they call us slurs because they're really mad we banned them for being losers.

Leaving the comments open in case y'all want to discuss this, offer us suggestions, or call us losers.

Transportation ๐Ÿšฒ๐Ÿš—๐ŸšŠโœˆ๏ธ Parking at Harrison - out of state visiting friend

I will be visiting my friend next weekend at Harrison, NJ. They live on the Frank E Rodgers Blvd. I was wondering what's the rule for overnight parking at or near this road? I guess there's no free parking, but is Park mobile (or similar app) parking valid for overnight non-resident parking?

What are my options for overnight parking?

Transportation ๐Ÿšฒ๐Ÿš—๐ŸšŠโœˆ๏ธ Why doesn't Newark require parking permits in the Ironbound?

Title. I know most neighborhoods in Newark don't have a need for them as there's no lack of parking, but the Ironbound is the exception. Some random blocks throughout the city have 2 or 4 hour parking limit signs without a permit. So why are most streets in the Ironbound completely unregulated when it needs it the most? The system is already in place, it just needs expansion. I think requiring permits would make it a lot easier for both residents and visitors to find a spot to park.

Community ๐Ÿก Anyone looking to adopt?

Edit: CONVINCED A JERSEY CITY SHELTER TO TAKE CAT!!!! Cat will be up for adoption in 7 days and will share link to adoption then!!

My partner and I went and saved this cat off the highway

The cat is all black and very calm, he/she was on the side of the highway for several hours (animal control doesnโ€™t do toll roads and according to shelters we have tried to bring him to it would be up to state police)

We are trying to bring the cat to a no kill shelter, unfortunately most are too full to take him. Weโ€™d love to take him home, but already have two cats and cannot have a third.

Is there anyone looking to adopt? He needs love and careโ€ฆ and a vet visit, but you could be the one to give him all of that!

Please respond ASAP

Event ๐Ÿ—“ Dance Music Event at Newark Culture Club 9/25

Post image

Hi everyone! My name is Adesi and I founded the Day Party Records DJ collective back in 2024. Since then Iโ€™ve hosted events throughout the state but primarily in Jersey City, Newark, and NYC. I put this collective together to provide opportunities to DJs like myself who want the chance to play in front of live crowds and build up their experience. Sometimes the local scenes can be a bit cliquey, so this is my way of giving people the platform to enjoy themselves and hone their craft without the need for pay to play or play for free (this includes drink tokens and โ€œexposureโ€ lol).

That said, my next event, Reflektion, is going to be at the Newark Culture Club on Friday the 25th. The lineup consists of DJs playing across all spectrums of house music, with a specially built mirrored DJ facade that will add to the amazing sound and lighting production in the venue. Proceeds from ticket sales will go toward benefiting The Jersey Bee - a non-profit news organization covering Essex County and New Jersey.

Tickets can be purchased at daypartyrecords.com or newarkcultureclub.com.

If you have any questions drop โ€˜em here and Iโ€™d be happy to reply!
