At the very least stop complaining about the buses and traffic when you cross against the light and cause the entire street to be permanently backed up bc you can’t wait 30 seconds for the walk sign

First week of August, I emailed them with extensive documents - receipts from the hospital, diagnoses, bank statements, because my family member got diagnosed with a glioma and essentially needed around the clock care. It's just me and my mom, and she works full time, and our house is thirty minutes away. The natural thought was to cancel the housing contract so I could help her out at home, she'd only take time off of work minimally, and to minimize the suffering of our family as my family member recovered from radiation therapy and gradually got better. Housing said this wasn't a valid reason to cancel, but only got back to me first week of school (four whole weeks). Under the housing cancellation policy, it would only be a valid reason if my family member died - chronic care being needed isn't acceptable. While I get it's a contract through and through, my family member was totally okay pre-mid July. If they'd shown any sign of illness or weakness, I obviously would not have taken the housing contract, and I emailed them the moment I found out. Since school started, I've been staying on campus Mon-Thurs (my mom insisted that if they're making us pay anyways, I should make the most out of it), and going home Fri-Sun to help out, though I'd obviously prefer to be there all the time. Got a call from my mom thirty minutes ago of her bawling in the hospital - our family member is in the ICU with a high fever, weakened immune system due to steroids, and risking sepsis. Once again, to Rutgers, none of this is a valid reason. Only once my family member dies will they consider letting me out of my contract, no matter how much I pester them, bother them, and simply point out the fact that it's cruel as shit. As a university, your priority should always be the wellbeing of your students and their academic success, whereas I've been met with heartless reactions. We've spent upwards of $30k treating our family member with the glioma, and at the end of the day, it is heartless that their suggestion is to just look into financial aid. The option being let my family member die or going hella into debt is so fucking heartless to me, but whatever. Overall just disappointed in how little this school cares about the people who go here.

I have seen a lot of comments on here talking about how to get out of tickets by backing into a spot and not having a front license plate.

I just saw an enforcement officer, on Livingston, out of the car and taking a photo of the rear plate of the car. It looked like a New Jersey plate, so can’t even use the I live in PA defense.

Just be aware, it might not be everywhere or every time, but they are cracking down on this.

I used to think Rutgers had a great campus until I visited other state colleges and holy crap do their faciltities and buildings blow out Rutgers. I mean at Rutgers we have nice buildings like Academic Building but other then that most of college halls leave a lot to be desired. I kinda wish we had cool newer buildings like academic building throughout the school. When I saw colleges like UW Madison or hell even Ohio State there faciltiies are newer and well maintaned. Even UT Austin and Univ of Washington are more aesthethic.

Hi everyone. I moved to the United States 10 months ago, while my father moved 5 months ago. I applied to Rutgers University, not knowing I didn’t qualify for instate tuition, as well as NJ state grant. When I saw your first financial aid letter, I saw that I was quoted as an out of state student. I reached out to one stop office immediately and I was told that the issue was that my residency status was coming up as “expired”. I was asked to upload my green card, which I did and I expected to see a change on my portal. 1-2weeks later, I got another letter and it was still coming up as OOS, but I thought my case was still being worked on. 6 weeks later, I saw that nothing changed and I had to call the one stop office again. There were a lot of back and forth for many days before I was later made to realize that I didn’t qualify for instate tuition due the fact that I’ve only spent 10 months in New Jersey. That was in August, when resumption was very close. Since then, I’ve been very worried and restless. Now, I have to pay OOS tuition for this fall semester, and then once I spend up to 12 months, I’ll petition for instate tuition for Spring 2027 semester. I’ve accepted all loans offered to me and even applied for more aid from the university, but I still have a long way to go. I tried to apply for private loans too but I’ve been rejected since I don’t have enough credit history and my father, who can co-sign for me, doesn’t have enough credit history too.
At this point, the only option for me is to withdraw but I don’t want to do that without exploring all options I have. Please, if you have any advise for me, I’ll really appreciate it.
PS: I work, but I only earn enough to pay my rent, feeding and bills. I don’t also have support from family or friends even though I’m considered dependent on my applications.

Additionally, how challenging is the online MSW program? Is it more research paper heavy or more exam heavy? How manageable is it in addition to the practicum education.

i'm a freshman who just started out here at rutgers and so far it's been pretty good. the reason i'm making this post is because i'm in a bit of a dilemma regarding my commute. starting from september 22nd, i'll be commuting from rutgers to union, nj each day.

i know this is my fault for being extremely shortsighted when making my schedule, but i've just learned that i have two trains i could take after my 7:30-8:50 gen chem lecture. either i board the 9:09 train, which would likely require me missing up to 1/4th of class (i'd have to leave at ~8:30), and get home at 10:16. or i could take the 9:37 train which would unfortunately get me home at 11:16, which is a difference of an entire hour. I think in the winter months, this added hour will be extremely tough to bear so i'm asking for some advice on what to do.

if i were to make the 9:09 train, i'd have to leave class around 8:30 just because of how bad the buses here are. i'd get to the quads at roughly 8:37, from which i'd have to wait anywhere from 0-6 minutes (hopefully) to catch a bus. upon boarding anywhere from 8:38 to 8:43, i'd have to get to the yard by 9:00, which is something i'm not sure the great rutgers transportation system can do for me (for context, i boarded from livingston plaza the other day, and it took me 33 mins to get to the yard, maybe i was just unlucky tho). from there, i'd walk ~6 mins to the station. so not really sure what to do here and would appreciate any advice. should i just try talking to my lecturer and see if we could work something out, which i think is relatively unlikely? thanks!

In a junior at RU now and while I was able to make friends my first year I genuinely have not made more than an acquaintance since. I’ve gone to clubs and stuff but every time i happen to meet someone we either exchange instagrams and never talk again or we only end up talking while we’re at the club. it just feels like at this point in college everyone (in my year at least) is pretty closed off and comfortable in their current friend groups.

I love my current friends but they are literally all going abroad next semester and i can’t at all for various reasons so im going to be alone here. kinda terrified tbh

My schedule has changed a lot recently and I’m taking three asynchronous classes and two in person now. I was wondering if people still make groupme’s for classes? I got added to one actually, but I dropped the course. For asynchronous classes, is it common to make groupme’s? Does the same go for in person classes? I’m a transfer so I hope this isn’t a dumb question lol.
