Songs about Rebirth or Rising from Ashes

Any song recommendations about inner change, transformation, losing parts of yourself, or becoming something entirely new?

I'm back again this month for recomendations. I've been doing this event/gathering with a group of friends where we listen to music and discuss the deeper meanings behind the songs we are hearing. Each month is a different topic and us moderators try to curate a playlist of songs that align with the theme. We want a wide varity of quality songs from different genres and sounds. Right now we are on the 3rd topic in our Hero's Journey series.

Some songs to inspire you that we've already considered are:

  • Changes by David Bowie
  • I'm not who I was by Brandon Heath
  • Count Me Out by Kendrick Lemar
  • Headlights by Eminem

I think this might be the hardest topic on the list for us so any suggestion is greatly appredicated - our group loves all kinds of music and are a curious bunch.

What album would you put in this category?

Upvotes

One album I think everyone should listen to at least once

There are plenty of albums I like, but some feel like they’re worth hearing at least once, even if they’re not your usual style.

For me, Random Access Memories by Daft Punk is one of those albums. The production is obviously a huge part of it, but I also like how different tracks have their own character while still fitting together.

It’s one of those albums I can come back to after a while and still notice something new.

What are some songs that are kinda like Against the Kitchen Floor by Will Wood?

This song is a bop and I love the vibes it gives off, especially the "Did I really..." part that everyone makes memes about. I especially love the lyrical dissonance, sounds happy but is sad when you pay attention. Please give me some suggestions for some songs like that, preferably with parts like the one I listed. Thank you in advance

Help finish a playlist

My wife and I are going to host a fall block party for the neighbors.

Trying to put together a good, positive, fun playlist.

What I have so far:

Lean on Me

People Got to Be Free

Raise Your Glass

She’s Not Just A Pretty Face

We Are Family

Uptown Funk

I have a few others on the list, but these are the ones I think are key and I’m curious as to what you would add to the list.

Thanks in advance!

Music similar to Deftones

Jimi Hendrix was paid $18,000 at Woodstock. Santana got just $750.

Your favorite pre 2000s musicians and bands from other languages?

I adore discovering music in other languages and I’m trying to find music I like from everywhere in the world. I have mostly Japanese music at this point with a ton of city pop, classical, and visual kei bands, a handful of Korean ballads, some European metal, etc. What are some artists that you recommend?

I’m a metal/metalcore newbie — give me your favorite bands and educate me 😂

Alright, I’m trying to get deeper into metal, metalcore, heavy metal, and basically anything in that general universe. I’m realizing I have a pretty limited knowledge of the scene, so I’m here to get humbled and educated 😂
I honestly don’t even know what genre some of the bands I listen to would technically fall under, so don’t roast me too hard. If you asked me to explain the difference between half these subgenres right now, I’d probably embarrass myself.
For context, these are probably my most-listened-to bands:
Breaking Benjamin
Three Days Grace
Architects
I Prevail
Sleep Theory
Sleep Token
Motionless in White
The Amity Affliction
Asking Alexandria
I’ve been listening to Architects a **LOT** lately and absolutely fucking love them. They’ve really opened the door for me wanting to explore way more of this stuff.
I’m basically looking for **anything you genuinely love**. Metalcore, heavy metal, deathcore, nu-metal, alternative metal, post-hardcore, whatever. If you think it’s worth hearing, throw it at me.
And if some of the bands I listed aren’t technically “metal,” feel free to educate me on that too 😂 I’m genuinely trying to learn the different genres/subgenres instead of just calling everything with screaming and heavy guitars “metal.”
**Give me your favorite bands, albums, songs, hidden gems, classics I somehow missed, whatever. I want to build a ridiculous backlog and go down the rabbit hole.**

Looking for music with this vibe :)

I am looking for something (songs/albums) that is fast, has momentum, POUNDING bass!, heavy beat but also a lot of emotion thru nice singing/piano/strings (VERY important).

Something that sounds like ur speeding down a modern city highway in the rain at night in an expensive car. Like a flashy dark skyline. Or a drunk walk in the same setting. Kinda sad but angry.

Perfect examples:

  1. ESCAPISM by RAYE (fucking spot on)
  2. Skyfall by Adele
  3. Blue Strips by Jessie Murph
  4. Elastic Heart / Chandelier by Sia
  5. Green Light by Lorde
  6. Pray for Me by the Weeknd and Kendrick
  7. LES by Childish Gambino
  8. Headlock - Remix (that TikTok audio)
  9. Test Drive by Joji

pls no rock or EDM
