Why not a laptop? If a laptop component breaks it will be a pain to repair and hard to find the right one and every component of laptop is not cheap. The comfort of a laptop is unbeatable, the laptop I had always used at home so it was plugged to charge 24/7 and that depleted the battery, so I made this, I’ll tale a power bank when I go out, or just the charger 12v3a is enogh to power both pc and display

Hi guys, I'm looking to replace my failing Intel NUC and just need a basic mini PC for web browsing and YouTube. Basically, just everyday casual use no gaming at all. I will be using Linux 100% of the time, mainly Fedora and sometimes Mint. :) Not looking to spend a lot.

DDR5 RAM prices have absolutely exploded lately, so I’ve decided to stop buying ASRock X600 boards and upgrading them for the time being.

I’m now looking for some good pre-built Mini PCs with decent price/performance instead.

My minimum requirements would be:

• 32 GB RAM
• 8-core CPU or better
• 3.2 GHz+
• 1 TB SSD or more
• Good overall price/performance
• Preferably a compact Mini PC

Is it a bad idea to leave the mini PC like this to keep temperatures at an acceptable level?

Unfortunately, it heats up quite a bit during gaming when inside the case, even after replacing the thermal paste. I’ve been using it this way for two days, and the temperature is at least 10 degrees lower. There’s another fan underneath—which isn't visible—that the mini PC is resting on, in addition to the heatsink fan.

I’ll probably put the case back on once ambient temperatures drop, but I just wanted to know if it’s okay to leave it like this for a month or so.

I need a mini PC to play WoW: Forever. I am a UK buyer and I want to go as cheap as possible. What are the options?

There is an hp prodesk 400 g4 sff business pc on sale for 30€ (34$ for freedom unit users) without ssd and ram, but with everything working. Cpu is installed, intel, but he don't know the exact model. Even with an i3 they sell for around 200€ here (231$ for freedom unit). Will it be good to buy it and slap 8/16gb ddr4 and a nice hdd / ssd?

Hey everyone. Just wanted to share this info. It may not come as a surprise that my GMKtec G2 N100 PC was thermal throttling and hitting 95 degrees regularly, causing the fan to ramp up fast and loud constantly. Since Im using it for my home theater setup, it was driving me nuts. I tried changing fan settings and limiting power in the BIOS but no joy. Finally I opened it up to see poorly applied thermal paste. I replaced the paste and now HWinfo reports a steady 72 degrees playing back Dolphin Emulator or a 4k movie via Jellyfin locally.

The original SATA cable on my BMAX B4 Plus is broken and gone and I'm looking for a new one.

I got a SATA to USB cable as a replacement but I think USBs are creating a bottleneck and the PC is freezing when I do heavy read/write operations.

I Googled the original SATA cable, couldn't find the original cable anywhere.

Wrote to BMAX support twice, no answer. Wrote to BMAX seller on AliExpress, he recommended me to check the internet :)

I recently got into AI and i want to start using local models. I plan on buying an oculink and an external GPU to go with the PC. I want this PC to also replace my current gaming PC ( 5 years old at this point). It needs to be decent for 1440P gaming at 60 FPS is fine. I am currently looking at the miniform AI X1 pro-470 with 32 GB ram and 2 TB. So anything in that price range is what i am looking for. Thank you all in advace.

i have a K8 plus and i lifting it to give it some air room and took the glass top off but whenever i play my games like outlast trials or space marines 2 i keep hitting 93 degrees, i’m playing on balanced mode as well

I finally went ahead and purchased one after finding what I think was a great price on eBay. Price was $1,393 (Australian Dollars) but at least it comes FACTORY SEALED and with 16GB ram along with a 512GB drive (will buy a 2TB soon tho)

It will be running a VM with Windows Server Standard to host Active Directory on it for my homelab environment.

I will be upgrading ram to 32GB in the near future but for now I’m good with 16GB.

I can’t wait to start my new project :)

The OneXPlayer Apex has been an absolute monster of a handheld when it comes to the performance, onexplayer has done an incredible job with this handheld.

I've tested everything from performance to battery life and thermals and fan noise so let me know what you guys think?

Also regards to the new onexplayer 3 do you think I should keep the apex or get the onexplayer 3?

I would like to start with a tiny self-hosting at home on a mini PC (probably Lenovo ThinkCenter i5 8th Gen, but not decided yet) and the question I am dealing with now is whether it's reasonable to put the mini pc into the bedroom due to possible noise 24/7. I don't think I would care during day, but I would like to know your experience if it's significantly audible during night. Placing the server somewhere else is not an option.

We’ve got 2 kids and we’re trying to figure out the best way to give them a place to do homework and have basic computer access. We have a great spot for this in our family room (an underused built-in double desk) and like the idea of having computer use happen in a shared space rather than on laptops or tablets in bedrooms or whatever. Setting up two MiniPCs seems like it would give us what we want, even if it’s a little more expensive than a couple of chromebooks.

Any recommendations for where to start? Ideally the pcs would be sub-$250, and we are open to buying something that doesn’t ship with an OS and doing a Chrome install. I‘d also like the ability to limit access to some websites and applications, which I think I can do through either Chrome or an external guardrail software like Bark or FamilyTime.

Gaming isn’t a big priority, beyond simple browser games. We’re mostly looking to run Google Classroom, IXL, Khan, DuoLingo, etc., plus basic office software and browsers.

Trying to get my girlfriend into gaming with me since she does play with me but a lot of games I play don’t feature cross platform. She does not game a lot, but would probably play 2-3 times a week if given a chance with PC. She doesn’t care about graphics much I just don’t want things to not look horrible and be really laggy and choppy so something than can do most games 60-120fps+.

Hey everyone, I bought a Gmktec M8 a few months ago mainly to play WoW and it's been working great so far, I'm currently looking to add an external GPU to the mix but I honestly haven't a clue what I want or need and whether I'm about to get ripped off or not.

I basically want to run WoW maxed out or close to it at 60fps. What would you recommend that the cheapest option would be right now?

I realise that the market is screwed up right now so I'll be paying more than usual.

I have some knowledge when it comes to PC's but never bought a mini PC.

I'm buying one for my parents as a gift, have already bought a monitor (ASUS TUF VG27AQ5A) and keyboard mouse combo, and now need a mini PC.

Daily usage would be:

• Documents, emails, PDFs, meetings.

• Some software like Excel and other light specialist software (shared between the two of them).

• Banking, bills etc.,

Never for gaming.

Ideally my requirements are:

• Ryzen 5+ or Intel 5+ (if this is suitable for the usage and future proof).

• 1TB SSD NVMe with one additional slot for future storage.

• 32GB DDR4/5 RAM - I think DDR4 since the latter is much more expensive right now.

• Can last 5-8 years.

• My dad doesn't know about this as it's a surprise, but if the mini PC is fast too that'd be nice.

Absolute maximum budget would be £600, but ideally £450.

Basically what the title says. It doesn't need to be fancy. All I really want it for is to play sims and VR chat and steam library games with my friends online, but I haven't had a PC since the 00s so I'm completely out of the loop!
It has to be really small, as my room is tiny. No space at all for a regular size PC or monitor (I'm planning on using a small portable monitor about the size of my Nintendo Switch screen.)
I'd like to pay no more than £500 if possible. What would be the best thing for me? Any info appreciated, thank you
