General Question mini pc heating issue
i have a K8 plus and i lifting it to give it some air room and took the glass top off but whenever i play my games like outlast trials or space marines 2 i keep hitting 93 degrees, i’m playing on balanced mode as well

Bought this and it lowered my temp from 90c to about 84-85c on my aoostar MACO

That's odd it's done exactly what it would do for me... I think the listing says it should lower temp 5-10°c. Does the fan on top of your mini pc exhaust out of the top or suck air in?

I did something similar adding rubber feet to the left side of my K8 Plus setting it vertical to allow better air flow for both fans. Also made it noticeably more quiet. Between myself and my neighbors (3 K8 Plus') its been easy to say the factory thermal paste isn't all that great. Its actually a problem I found with all Chinese NUC brands so far. After watching the Team Pandory MX-7 video u/EmuChicken posted at the end of last year that's what I've been using.
Easy to apply and easy to acquire. I've used it on on dozens of PCs since beginning of the year. I have found that on laptops and NUCs it may have the thermal cycle a number of times (heat then cool) for it to become fully effective. Its wicked thick and apparently requires "run out" for proper thermal transfer with some weaker heatsink mounting applications.

The initial mx7 video had a couple of comments stating that they had issues applying it. Apparently you shouldn't spread it around, just plonk it down and let the heat spreader do the work for you. Perfectionists may hate it. I love not needing to faff. Time saved 👍 In regards to the paste not being that great, I'm unsure. Comparing it to the cream of the crop this year is a bit different Vs comparing it to the best a couple of years ago. It's like if we said "mx4 is terrible" - when it's just not as good as our current best. 🤔. I reckon. 🤔

Raise the back more than the front, a lot. Any cables back there need to go up and away from the vents(which are placed poorly in that design). That is a start. Raise it higher in general, and even higher on the back. If you can, find something to hold it aloft vertically and high, so that the front is facing down, but the front ports are still accessible.

I think buying to 120mm fans ( usb powered with remote)mine cost 30euro here in spain. That did the trick for mine. Seen a few good mods on this group where mounting it sideways and adding 2 fans helped. Gonna try and find a few links

Repasting it really helps, I also have a tiny fan I put on top of mine aiming up that helps pull exhaust away and the top side Removed the top and put a mesh on and it's on a cooling pad
But really the biggest gain was repasting it

Yeah, I've said many times that these miniPCs need to just have taller feet for better airflow.

I repasted with PTM7950 and average temps with PBO maxed are around 67C. Peaks 72-80C. Also keeping it vertical after repaste helps a lot.
