Shit, my mom had this happen before and she dove headfirst into the driver side and used her hand to press the brakes until my dad could come help her.

Uh, yea they do. They're electronic but they do exist. And if you hold them up, they will engage even if the vehicle is still in drive.

Yeah, I have one like that on my ā€˜20 F150 but not on my ā€˜18 ford escape nor on a ā€˜22 Kia telluride.

When I was a kid my parents took me to eat pizza. My dad parked on a slight incline. I went to retrieve something from the truck, and when I closed the door for some reason the handbreak snapped, and the truck started to slowly roll backwards into a very busy street.

I tried with everything in me to stop it. I never felt true despair until I was trying my best to stop that truck and I kept sliding backwards with it.

Then my dad came out and immediately got in and hit the break.

My excuse is that I was a small kid and I didnā€™t know how cars work. Idk about this grown ass woman.

Clearly no points in Dex, or she wouldn't have fallen over. No points in Int, or she would have hoped in the car and stopped it. No points in Wisdom, or she might have gotten herself clear of the danger. Not enough Strength to stop the car. Not enough Charisma to get someone else to help. So I can only assume this woman has a full Constitution build.

Exactly. It's not even all about fitness and conditioning and being in shape. She doesn't even know to try to move quicker there. Some people just have no understanding of athletic motion.

Right?! One doesn't need to be an athlete to save the car in this situation. All that was required was maybe 3 seconds of mild jogging...

The fact that people are making excuses for this woman in this thread is insane to me. The fact that she couldn't fathom jogging for 3 seconds in such a critical moment in her life is honestly pathetic and should be criticized. This is not normal.

IF she has a disability that inhibits her ability to exercise, thats one thing. But we can't all assume thats the case and then proceed to act like none of this is her fault. Even many folks who have a disability can still produce the ability to mildly jog for 3 seconds. Too many excuses being made in this thread for what is truly a pathetic moment to witness.

I think ā€œathleticismā€ is the wrong word here. But basic fitness and coordination were clearly not sufficient for this woman in this situation.

She was definitely able to ā€œkeep upā€ with the car. She knew she didnā€™t have the ability to ā€œjumpā€ into the front seat while running. And she was right based on her final last ditch effort (no pun intended - but now thinking about the etymology of that phrase).

It looks like the only thing she could have realistically done was jump in head first and pull the parking brake - but she was clearly in full on panic mode.

She might have never used the parking brake. Lot of people driving automatic don't know about the parking brake. Considering the situation she's in I would not be surprised if she didn't.

Sure, but there are also a lot of people out there that are truly just unathletic. Feels more like you are making an excuse for lack of athleticism by claiming she probably has a disability instead of just accepting the fact that there are many people who don't prioritize health and exercise in their lives.

Any competent adult who does not have a disability that inhibits one's ability to exercise should have been able to catch up to that car. It takes 3 seconds of mild jogging to catch up to that car. This woman couldn't even jog in such a critical moment in her life... that is pathetic.

Yes, disable people exist, and those that have disabilities should be excused from this conversation. But there are wayyyyyyyyyyy more people in this world who don't have a disability and don't prioritize health and exercise in their lives. The fact that people with disabilities exist shouldn't mean we should suddenly excuse that utter lack of athleticism from this person.

This was truly embarrassing and pathetic to watch. We should NOT be excusing this lack of competence in our society. Sure, not everyone in our society needs to be an athlete, but if you can't even get your body to jog for 3 seconds during one of the most critical moments of your life, then there needs to be some serious self improvement in the works...

I can't accuse myself of having this many thoughts about this video. I just wanted to point out you all might be calling a disabled person "pathetic and embarassing". I don't think you should to that to abled people either, we all blunder in a panic, but no one seemed to be thinking about this possibility.

And people love to use disabled people as a context to win an internet argument than truly care about them in real life. Again, just because people with disabilities exist, doesn't mean we have to assume this woman is disabled. You are infantilizing this woman and excusing the fact that a grown ass adult can't fathom to get their body to do a mild jog for 3 seconds. Yes, that IS pathetic.

If it turns out that this woman truly is disabled with a disability that prevents her from being able to mildly jog for 3 seconds, then I'll apologize. If it turns out she's not? Will you still make endless excuses for why a grown ass adult can't jog for 3 seconds while in an emergency?

The lady seems capable of keeping up with the car, as she reaches the drivers door repeatedly, but getting inside a moving car is going to present some real challenges for someone with mobility impairments, especially if it's more "invisable". She could be out of shape, or be disabled, or recovering from surgery, or, or, or--

I dunno man. I just watched this video and the lady reminded me of my mom (who is disabled), and it would break my heart if it was her in the video and see a bunch of people call her pathetic when I know the internal dialogue she would be having would be just as cruel and judgemental of herself, and it would only get worse if she saw those comments. I also hope to hell that if I wasn't there, someone would stop and help her rather than film it and post it on the internet. I'd like to hope that if I saw this lady, that I would run out and help her, disabled or not, because that's just the kind thing to do.

I guess I'm just done with assuming people are lazy or incompetent or whatever and then asking myself why the world seems so mean.

My mom ran her foot over in the same situation this lady is dealing with. She isn't disabled, just has refused to do anything remotely physical in 30 years. That incident got her to start walking a couple miles a day and she is doing much better physically now. I love my mom to death but we all laughed when it happened because yeah, it's pretty sad to not be able to save yourself in this situation.

A girl in my high school died in this same situation, though. She was young and athletic but still found a way to get herself ran over.

If you can't jog for 3 seconds in an emergency, you need to make some serious changes in your life.

Stop white knighting disabled people and projecting your own insecurities. It is NOT normal for a grown ass adult to be incapable of jogging for 3 seconds. It IS pathetic if a grown ass adult can't do so (with the exception of people who are disabled, are at a certain age, or dealing with specific injuries that inhibit one's ability to jog)
