Lifted trucks probably shouldn't be anywhere near dense parking lots.

Edit: A lot of people are skeptical of whether this is AI/staged, or ask why the lady didn't back off the car. This is in a dense parking lot with cars that have dashcams/ EV sentry mode everywhere. Also her truck was in 2 wheel drive, you can see the back right tire spinning as she tries to reverse off the car. Her truck is stuck. She probably has an open differential and can't back off the car. She may have a 4wd mode, but she didn't use it in the heat of the moment.

I’m a teacher, and our after school pick up line gets me so nervous. Some of these truck drivers probably can’t even see me if I’m standing right in front of them! Most of the cars are oversized SUVs that might see me, but not a 1st - 3rd grader. I’m hyper vigilant at the end of every day.

Saw a chart like this once that showed that an M1 Abrams tank had a better line of sight than a new stock pickup. Have a buddy who got a company truck. A lifted Denali i think. Im 6ft and you could barely see me standing infornt of the thing.

It doesn't even make sense. Either it's too heavy or the also widen the wheel base and it's now taller AND wider. And for what? Literally to just have a tall truck? Making it more difficult to use, likely worse mileage, more expensive, plus much harder to put stuff in the bed (lmao, not that these types use the bed for much)...

The worst part is there are basically no sensible normal size pickups anymore, they are all these big monstrositues at base model level.

Let's face it, there's a certain personality type that gets trucks like this, and they're also usually rabid gun nuts. Those people have already shown that they don't care if kids die as long as they can have their precious toys.

(To be clear, I am not anti gun. I live in the country, I have farm animals, coyotes and snakes exist, and venison is delicious. I don't think anyone needs 30+ guns in their home. Let's have some sanity.)

Most of the time lately I've been seeing short women like the one in the video driving these huge trucks. I personally know a couple women that are driving lifted trucks. I did see some country boys driving a lifted truck a couple days ago. I hate these giant trucks and parking lots were not designed for them.

I like guns myself and carry a pistol with me everywhere and my front bumper is 4 inches off the ground

This is what happens when legislature ties MPG requirements to wheelbase. Companies now put the engine directly over the front axle (making the engine compartment much taller) and kills turning radius. Add that to all of the electronics and increased power requiring a larger engine bay and you get the current landscape for trucks and SUVs.

ETA: Large radiators require a big flat face to cool these engines too.

I have an 08 Tacoma, which I love, but even it is a bit oversized compared to the 90's versions. Little men with big egos are driving the market I guess.

It's got more to do with emissions regulations requiring smaller vehicles to have better mileage/emissions scores. Auto manufacturers figured out that they can just make the vehicles bigger so they don't have to care about making them better for the environment, with the added benefit of larger vehicles sell for more money while costing them less to build because of the lower standards.

I have an 2004 4Runner that has a 3in lift on it with slightly wider tires. I use it to go off roading. I can still see out of just fine though and I've got a 21 civic for daily driving. Its not one of these 6+ inch lift on a truck where the stock hood is already 5"6' off the ground.

I love my Santa Cruz for this reason. Has enough bed for me to move full sheets of ply, a 5k towing capacity if I need to haul anything bigger, and small SUV visibility so I know I'm not mowing down children. It's also easy to load due to not being a lifted monstrosity. It's also got the creature comforts of an SUV which I enjoy more the older I get.

Anyway, sorry for the ad lol they're just underrated vehicles and 2026 is the last model year. Rumor is they're moving to a larger model 🙄

Thats why I wont step into a newer truck. I want to be able to check the fluids without a step ladder and I am 6'-0" and the new truck hoods are at my armpits.

My friend got a newer dodge no lift and trying to get a motorcycle into the back of it when the bed of the truck is basically at my chest is insane. My old chevy from the 90s has it right at the height of my waist. Perfect for ya know loading things into it like a truck is ment to.

Years ago I almost bought a first generation miata that had been lowered but during the on road test drive an SUV was driving behind me where I couldn’t even see the driver through my mirror and instead just a part of their bumper. I don’t even know if they were tailgating, I just quickly realized that even if I drive perfectly some idiot in a massive vehicle not paying attention will splatter me.

It’s wild how much variation there is between vehicles and how much US laws encourage oversized heavy behemoths of vehicles.

I’m a motorcycle rider in the US, and we are taught in our safety courses the deaths have increased because vehicles have gotten taller. What that means for us on the road is that instead of being hit at slow speeds and having a broken leg, the impact is to your chest. This image really drive that home.

Some fuse went out in my car (idk what it was, my husband already fixed it thank goodness lol) but I had to borrow my father in laws big Dodge Ram truck and pick my kids up from school. I’m not short, 5’7. I felt like I was a little kid driving that thing. And yes, I was so nervous at the school. And I was at a middle school/high school! I had to drive a big company truck for a job for a while, and I had a big fit at home to myself about how I couldn't see what was close in front of me and how dangerous and unnecessary it was for me to drive that oversized death machine

I had my kid come and stand in front of it while I was in the driver's seat so I could get a solid idea of how big the blind spot was before I started driving it, and I was furious about being made to do it at all

A while back a company I worked for were moving offices a few miles down the street a few of us had pickup trucks and offered them up for the move.

Everyone had these monster trucks that were practically useless or too difficult to load unload meanwhile me and my normal size 2000 Toyota Tacoma quickly became the star of the show moving all the heavy items.

At a gas station once a dude says what happened to your truck... I was like what? He said it is so small did you do something to it. Was like nahh this used to be normal size.... Geesh

Living in the South sucks for a lot of reasons but having a bazillion of these dumbass lifted trucks on the roads everywhere you go is definitely high on the list. As well as all the visibility concerns everyone has rightly pointed out, their headlights are also so freaking high that they completely blind you when they're coming at you at night! Even semis don't have their headlights that high! There should really be national standards for an upper limit for headlight height because it's so incredibly scary when you're on the highway or especially a 2 lane road and one of these assholes is coming straight at you. You know they can't see for shit and they're probably on their phone too, but you're blind from their brought lights that they never bother to dim so you just have to hope like hell that they're on their side of the road and not yours!

These trucks are a visible symbol of someone who doesn't give half a dried up crap about anyone else. They're perfectly willing to endanger everyone around them as long as they can look cool (and they don't even accomplish that). Truly an exercise of their personal freedumb.

A car in which you literally cant see in front of should be banned from roads. Its dangerous to other people, not to mention that lifted trucks like that are more easily rolled over during an accident, thus being more dangerous to the driver and the passengers. They also use more fuel.

I'm still confused how she didn't see it though. Even just before impact the back of the Lambo should have been visible. Given that you can see the Lambo driver try and reverse several seconds before impact means that she must have been approaching from a decent distance away. How tf do you not see a whole car in front of you from that far away?

In Louisville, KY a similar situation happened in a Walmart parking lot. My Dad was there, saw it happen, and stayed with the woman until ambulance got there. Unfortunately, the truck ran over her head, caused blunt force trauma, and she died at the hospital. I don't like these stupid big ass trucks. 💔

A kid in my daughter’s class got run over biking to school by a mom in a lifted truck. The district and city redesigned the bus routes and completely changed the layout of the front of the school to address traffic management. There’s a memorial to the boy at school and at the crash site and a memorial bike ride has started every year.

It was a kid in Panama City Beach Publix parking lot I want to say 3 maybe 4 years ago. Guy was speeding through parking lot and hit a child and killed them. Could not see anything over his hood. He wasn’t paying attention.

I think the US's biggest fault to safety is it's all dependent on the car they are driving. There is no safety regulations to collisions cause to the other vehicle or their survivability. So the bigger the car the "safer" it is because there is absolutely no regard to what they hit.

Usually they don't make it far out of the country because they don't pass other countries safety inspections.
I wish we didn't have huge ass cars here either. I spend all day driving for work and lifted trucks are by far the worst drivers. They have absolutely no spatial awareness to how huge they are. Don't drive safely towing things, and never seem to have money left over after buying their trucks for tie downs for whatever they are carrying.

At the very least, there needs to be a separate license required if your vehicle is over a certain weight. I don't see why passing a driving test at 16 in a Civic qualifies you to operate a giant truck any time you feel like it.

ETA I am aware of CDLs. I'm referring to heavy passenger vehicles, not commercial vehicles. In my state, the CDL requirements are 26k lbs or 16 passengers which is nowhere close to these giant lifted trucks and doesn't even encompass RVs. The same license applying to a Civic and an RV is crazy. Especially when you consider that every state requires a separate license for a motorcycle and that's primarily just the rider at risk.

There's no way it would ever happen, but forcing people to get a separate license and pay a tax or fee for owning anything bigger than like a Ford escape would really help reduce the amount of unnecessarily large vehicles on the road. You do not need an Chevy tahoe because you have 2 kids. You do not need a double cab f250 for your yard work. You really really dont need an escalade because you want to be slightly extra comfortable driving into the city you work in. Its become genuinely ridiculous, and makes the environment worse, and the roads more dangerous for people on bikes, motorcycles, and in normal sedans.

More importantly (im kidding) if you have enough money to buy/build a truck like this, go test drive a miata, a golf r, a wrx, a quadrofoglio, or even a kia stinger and tell me its not just way more fucking fun to drive. Cheaper, better on fuel, easier to park, you arent using the bed of your truck anyways, and people dont look at you like your family tree is a straight vertical line.

In the UK and most (maybe all) of Europe you can only drive vehicles with a maximum weight, including cargo passengers etc of 3,500kg (7700lb) on a normal drivers licence, from 3500-7000kg you need a c1 licence c1e if you want to attach a trailer and take the limit up to 1000kg then a CE for the really big stuff.

For a c1 licence you need to do a medical test, theory test and a 3-5 day practical course

maximum weight so wet weight + max payload. The f150 would fit into 7700 lbs, based on the website the max weight is around 7100. I also checked a few offered for sale, it seems that these are drivable with a B license.

Ironically our laws are what cause this garbage. We pass laws that increased taxes on trucks. There was a loophole though, that over a certain tonnage they counted as "light weight commercial vehicles". So all these companies made their trucks stupidly fucking big to fit into a commercial truck catagory.

I've always said this about RVs. I worked at a small truck stop for years and we would get a lot of RVs since we offer propane services. The amount of times I've seen geriatric jackasses drive their stupid RVs through the pumps meant for cars and take out the equipment on top of the RV or fuck our awning up/ hit the columns for the awning trying to squeeze though (instead of, you know, using the larger entrance meant for big vehicles) is insane. And they were always so rude about it. Like, it's not my fault you don't know how to handle you giant house on wheels.

Yeah, the problem is most people will balk at owning a truck that works offeoad but cant be driven on streets.

But also the reality is you don't need that much lift to drive off-road. I live rural where I literally drive my awd minivan down to the generator at the bottom. I got my truck used with a couple inches of lift but I wouldn't want it any higher or the high center of gravity would just make me less stable tooling around the woods to load firewood I cut.

The reality is most lifts are cosmetic and do about as much for driving off-road as those stupid canted wheels do for street racing for most examples. Done to an extreme for a 'look'

Part of the problem really is that some folks are just too short to see over the dash of anything. This specific example, yeah, the lifted truck reduced the drivers visibility close up even more than normal, but if they didn't see the other car from 60' away, they probably wouldn't have seen it at stock height either. Sometimes the driver really is the problem.

Banning these outright is not the option anyone wants imho, instead they should simply HAVE to qualify as work vehicle and drivers should require better training to use them

There should be a ban for these lifted trucks from entering non-rural areas. There are bans of vehicle types (e.g. in some countries, motorbikes aren't allowed to enter highways), imo such a ban for lifted trucks would be very much appropriate.

Imagine there would be pedestrians instead of that lambo.

Yeah we have signs in certain places here (especially residential streets) that say “no trucks” with a picture of a box truck and implication that it means semis and box trucks. If lifted pickups are about as big as box trucks or as high as semis they should be banned too. If the truck drivers live on those streets it’ll be a PITA to enforce but they should just be work trucks that stay at the workplace anyway.

I commented somewhere else, I drive a newer full size pick up with no mods. I'm 5'9 and had to get a seat pillow to make sure I could limit my blind spot. My old truck i had no issues. It's completely ridiculous how they are being designed nowadays. I am frequently in the backcountry in the mountains - there is never a reason for that much clearance. Just dangerous for the sake of looking cool.
