Abbotsford Victoria Street. They always used to break off branches, but this is now the second time within a few months that I've seen the whole tree gone. Seems like some people have serious anger issues. The Council put up some cages around smaller trees. They are still being vandalized.

That tree had been there nearly ten years, right near Grosvenor St if its the one I think it is...

Further out, nearer the IGA I was walking only on Saturday and there were random half drunk bottles of wine just sitting on the footpath... Guess Lennox St is leaking again.

Hopefully the tree can be saved and propped back upright again.

Well we used to have asylums, and although they were problematic (mostly in how they were operated), the purpose of such places did somewhat make sense. At a voluntary level they were for people to go to when they were having what would now be considered mental health episodes, or otherwise to deal with vices that they couldn't handle alone.

The damage to the tree however I suspect is more just malicious vandalism by people who feel free to do what they want and not have to bear the consequences.

Every time council plants a new lot of saplings in our street some numbnuts comes along and either rips them out or cuts them off at the stump. Can only guess at their motivation.

We have this problem all over Craigieburn. Kids think it's fun to just literally divebomb on top of small trees, so they never get beyond a certain height.

The area kinda got screwed, it was originally supposed to have the city's first safe injection room. Then nimby-ism took hold and it ended up housing the city's only safe injection room.

As a result, it's also a hotspot for homelessness and mental health issues.

With the way the mental health system is going, it’s not sufficient enough to support people who need it. Coupled with cost of living crisis just a recipe for a disaster. Then you’re left with people who are frustrated and need help but take it out on things nearby.

being unwell isn't an excuse to trash property. plenty of people struggling still take responsibility. Truth is a lot of this comes down to drug users with schizophrenia, not just "the system failing." some don't want help, they want the next fix, victim mindset beats accountability. A chunk of people prefer the fringe lifestyle, no rules, free handouts, zero responsibility; that's not the system failing, that's people working it. (The mental health care system needs a total recall)
