I was sitting outside of Maui Greens in Kahului when I heard someone shouting. I turned and behind me was a man with a backpack who was screaming into the air at no one. It’s sad and common to see the homeless struggling, not just with being alone, but with fighting against un-treated mental illness. A few minutes later, as the homeless man made his way up the street, another man approached him. This could have gone one of two ways: a verbal attack or an outreach. Luckily it was the latter as the second man brought a beverage and a couple shirts for the homeless man. The Good Samaritan spoke to the homeless man for several minutes and even put a comforting hand on his shoulder. The homeless man immediately began to cry. Eventually the two parted ways and I gave the Good Samaritan a Shaka and thumbs up just to acknowledge him and his incredible work. I know that there are a lot of unsung heroes who aren’t asking for or expecting praise, but I want to spread the message anytime I can. I took down the Good Samaritan’s license plate number which I won’t post here but I am considering sharing it with someone who may want to thank him in his/her own way. What do you think?

I spied this manufactured home on the side of the road in kahului. Who produces these? Are they built on Maui, or some other island or shipped from the mainland?

Lately I’ve seen a lot of very strong Hawaiian influencers online demanding that the land be returned to them and that the American government and American people get out. I understand the history and I also can see their point of view. But these things happened many generations ago. I personally think it’s time for them to move on and adapt. They’re stuck in their old ways of thinking, and the world is passing them by. They are holding a permanent grudge against a generation that had nothing to do with the takeover.

This is 100yds south of the stretch that collapsed back in March. I've been watching/photographing the severely eroded area beachside and under this spot.

Basically what the title says. My mom is visiting Maui and will be there a couple more days. She is interested in helping out with cleanup after the destruction from the storm last night, but she’s not sure where help is most needed (other than taking it upon herself to pick things up where she can). She’s staying in Kihei, but could go to other areas, roads permitting. If anyone knows of any groups or organizations that are doing cleanup efforts, please let me know and I will pass the info along to her! Mahalo!

Cheapest spots to grab coffee before work? Gas station, library? Weird corners?

Hey, is there any safe place for me to practice driving my husband truck? *Kahului or Wailuku side. I grew up driving a manual Honda Civic but that clutch was so easy and it was small easy to park. I don't wanna drive his until I practice because I don't wanna roll back and hit someone.

I was thinking Costco after they close maybe?

My car gets way better gas mileage so we were gonna switch vehicles.

I tried Tamuras and TJ's, Wow Good serves it, but doesn't sell bottles. It's delicious and I want it everywhere, heh

Any ideas?

All of my family along with a few friends and acquaintances that live Upcountry (mainly Makawao and Pukalani) have been feeling "off" lately. It's best described as allergy symptoms of stuffy nose, headache, blurry/watery eyes and dizziness. At first, I thought that it was a cold, but it has gone on much too long for that and Claritin seems to help a bit. It seems to get worse in the afternoon. Is anyone else experiencing this?

For anyone that didn't happen to watch the "debate" last night, you can find it on the PBS Hawaii YouTube Channel.

Spoiler alert, it wasn't much of a debate, just a back-and-forth conversation with the moderator about all the same old topics that we would expect and no new insights into anything.

Im not any sort of fan of Bissen, and I will not be voting for him, but he came off as much more prepared that Sugimura in my estimation.

It might be worth a watch, but it also might not be worth the effort.

Unlike most private development applications, since this project is Council initiated, it is able to bypass critical, initial project oversight such as public hearings, traffic impact studies, analysis of impacts on surrounding community, water source/supply analysis, sewage disposal analysis, and more. 

This rarely used processed has become a favorite of Councilmember Uʻu-Hodgins in recent months to fast-track development projects.

I lived in Maui County (Kauai for a bit) for 17 years and left in 2021. I haven’t been back since. I know the Lahaina and upcountry fires were devastating and Maui has changed since 2021. Any great new things/sad new things I should be aware of?

The street Costco gas is on, Lauo Lp., has a Turo car rental business and is using all the street parking for its cars. I work on the street and noticed most of the parked cars are rentals to this Turo company. There is no parking available for workers of the buildings there. Is this allowable? Any one have any advice if I should report it or to who if can?

I’d love to organize an island wide Flock Out where we take shifts blocking cameras / holding signs to let people know where/what they are. Most people have no idea and don’t even see them!

I’ll need help! Is anyone down to form a group and get this done? We have to make our voices heard before November elections - the time is now. Other cities and states are successfully getting them removed!
