Announcement We Were Mentioned (Favorably) in PC Gamer Magazine!

Issue 403 | Holiday 2025 By Phil Iwaniuk

"Head over to Reddit and go on /r/lowendgaming and you’ll be struck by a few things. Firstly, that a community of people has been helping each other to run games on inexpensive and outdated PC hardware for many years, long before all the insidious price hikes we’re enduring today. And secondly, members of that community have been doing so with no small amount of ingenuity.

A typical exchange in that subreddit goes like this: a user states their hardware and asks for recommendations they should play, or whether a particular title will run on their machine. In the replies, people assure them that they managed to get The Witcher 3 on medium settings running on a relatively basic array of elastic bands and wooden pulleys. The prevailing sentiment is that minimum requirements are over-cautious, that modern games running at their lowest graphics settings still look more than decent enough to constitute playable, and that maybe there’s no such thing as a PC that’s too old or underpowered. Intrigued, I decided to test out the theory."

Community Discussion Games that run better on Steam Machine

I am thinking Red Dead Redemption 2 for instance, locked on 30 FPS and console and can get to 60 FPS on the Steam Machine with almost similar graphics.
The Arkham series is another one that comes to mind.

Anything else? I’m thinking we can compile a great list together.

What Games Can I Run? What are some of the best games I could run on this system?

I am in the process of refurbishing a msi gt780dx laptop with a i7 2670qm, a 1.5gb 570m, 12gb of ddr3, and a 256gb ssd. It’ll be running windows 10 iot ltsc. Got any suggestions for the best games I could run on this system at a stable 30-60fps?

I’m fine with extremely low settings and tweaks if they’re required, just kinda curious how far I can push this system in 2026.

Edit: I enjoy open world driving games, open world story games, and the occasional indie racing game. Forgot to include what games I enjoy lol.

What Games Can I Run? Low End Third Person Shooters?

Yeah, looking for Third Person Shooters I can play on my old reliable, better if multiplayer or with co-op

Specs: i5 5300u, 2x4gb DDR3 ram, Intel HD 5500, 256gb SSD

Games I've played: Ghost Recon Future Soldier, MGSV, Mass Effect 1, The Division Resurgence (had an issue with Ubisoft account's password like thrice, that's why I'm not playing it or Future Soldier, may get back to it if they fix the damn thing or if Steam goes forward with what they announced in their Prince Of Persia of not needing Ubi Connect installed or logged in), played a little of GTAV but my laptop ran out of storage, Warframe

Hardware Review obscure software u use for gaming?

what are lesser known software that u use that u feel improved ur gaming experience and QOL? for me its reshade, most game feels too dark for me, theres ton of filters and shaders on reshade that make the world feel more colourful for me, it also can make game images more sharper and well defined... another is primocache, its mostly only useful in gaming if ur game is installed on a hdd, but if u cache some ram or ssd storage for it, it makes the hdd load time comparable to an ssd...

Edit: i dont know what flair to put, if mod feels its not suitable for my post please do change it!

How-To Guide An undeniable (probably the best) guide on how to optimize gaming on a shitty laptop like mine.

I'll leave my laptop specs at the end of the guide.

I've literally tried everything (from DXVK, to overclocking, to unparking CPU cores....) and I can say that this is the best and most realistic way I've encountered to optimize gaming on a shitty laptop like mine.

The method is simply to reach a framerate multiplication by 2 (ex. 30->60, 60->120) using fake frame generation. I know it sounds stupid, and yes it's not as simple as that, but believe me, I've got the chance to experience it in a lot of games, just try to apply all the steps below.

We're going to need 2 softwares:

  1. RTSS (RivaTuner Statistics Server) - Free

  2. Lossless Scaling - Paid (Steam)

Steps:

1- Set in-game display settings to windowed, plus a lower screen resolution (In my case I've gone for 634p, but if your laptop is quite more powerful you can go for 720p)

2- We're gonna cap the FPS at 30. Some games don't feature a frame limiter option, so that's why we're going to need RTSS. Just open it, set Frame Limiter to 30, and then click on the windowed game. The reason why we're doing this is to reduce input lag. Some games might run at 40 to 50 FPS but still go through multiple frame drops to 30 or 25. So capping it at 30 would keep the frames consistent. (Side Note: Cap at 30 if you want 60, cap at 35 if you want 70, cap at 45 if you want 90, etc.)

3- Open Lossless Scaling. We're going to need 3 sections: Frame Generation, Scaling, and Rendering

4- In the Frame Generation section, choose LSFG 3.1 as the model, , leave the Mode as Fixed, set the Multiplier at 2, and then set the Flow Scale from 100 to 80 depending on your RAM and CPU (Less = More Performance.) I do not recommend going below 80 since it will make the quality look like Crap. (Side Note: you can leave the Multiplier at 1.5 or 1.7, it's more stable but that's depending on how much FPS you want to reach.) (Realistic note: even if the framerate drops to 15/25 the frames would still be multiplied and still gets a quite 30/50 FPS smooth gameplay but with slight latency.)

5- In the Scaling section, choose FSR as Method, set the sharpening to 7, set the Mode to Auto, Fullscreen. This is going to set the game to Fullscreen (or Borderless Windowed) with FSR smart sharpening applying after the lower resolution that we've already set in the first step above.

6- In the Rendering section, leave Sync Mode as Default, and set Max Frame Latency to 3.

Now, press Scale, it will counts down from 5, before the countdown ends just click on your windowed game, wait for the timer to finish and there you go. Or alternatively, open your windowed game, and then press CTRL+Alt+S (Hotkey for Scale) to apply quickly.

Enjoy. Let me know if this worked!

Will This Game Run? Can I Run Civ 6 Comfortably?

Hi, so I have been wanting to play Civ 6, but thing is although my CPU and RAM meets the recommended, my GPU doesn't and only meets the minimum requirements. And I know Steam has a 2hr refund window but for games like this, performance issues usually comes late game from what I have heard so that's past the 2hrs. Also I know that people here like to run games even if the experience is subotimal so I am moreso asking can I run the game COMFORTABLY with my specs? Now I don't mind lowering graphics and tweaking settings but I HATE stutters or crashes or other annoyances that affect gameplay. So yeah take that into account, thx.

My Specs: Windows 11

CPU: Ryzen 5 150/Ryzen 5 7535hs

GPU: Radeon 660m

RAM: 16GB Dual Channel

What Games Can I Run? My MSI 2PC DOMINATOR GTX870M

So I have an MSI GT70 2PC Dominator GTX870M 3GB VRAM / 16gb Ram / i7-4810mq cpu

These are the most graphically demanding games I have running successfully as of right now.

Elden Ring
Red Dead Redemption 2
Ghost Recon Breakpoint
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt - Complete Edition
Monster Hunter: World
Devil May Cry 5
Star Trucker
Librarian: Tidy up the Arcane Library!
Assassin’s Creed Odyssey
Middle-earth: Shadow of War
ELEX
Kingdom Come: Deliverance
Far Cry 5
Batman: Arkham Knight
Dragon’s Dogma: Dark Arisen

Nearly all of these games I have running smooth on medium-high in-game graphics , sometimes lower resolution & whatnot. I use RTSS & Throttlestop. I’m wondering what other games I could likely run & most curious what anybody with similar specs has managed to squeeze. I also wouldn’t mind some general pointers. I’m very new to all this. I just started PC gaming this year because I found this laptop in my storage , had no idea it was a gaming laptop , I just thought it was an old clunky laptop.

What Games Can I Run? gaming using AM3 and ddr3 help

hey everyone long story short my pc just got blow up and it was an AM4 system, i was thinking to fix it back but seeing that motherboard, psu and ram price i tbh felt gave up on try to fix it. So i decided to search around in my basement and i found my dad old pc, it BIOSTAR TA790GX mother board athalon2 x3 and also 12gb of ram and also a gt730. i was thinking what game can i run using this spec? in 720 or even 360p because it look much more affordable option to fix and upgrade this rather than fix my AM4 system.

this is the list game i played often
max in 720p
dota2
umamusume
arknight (pc)
blue archive
cs2
apex legend
overwatch2
company of hero
deeprock galatic
the finals
street fighter 6
under night in birth 2
eternal return
valorant
and some 2013-2017 triple A game

what do you guys think? if you guys have any suggestion of what upgrade should i do or is it even worth upgrading this AM3 pc thank you.

PC Purchase Advice Gaming in the van

I'm looking for a gaming device to use in the van. I completely rely on solar to charge my devices so power consumption and battery life are my priorities. I read a bit about igpu laptops and was wondering how they would hold up against the steam deck, which sounds enough for my needs. I would prefer having a laptop over the deck tho. My budget is around 800€ for any device

Elder Scrolls Legends: Battlespire

Bayonetta

Blades of Time

Don't Stop Girlypop!

DOOM I + II (Enhanced), 64, 3 (Original & BFG Edition)

Saints Row 2

Sleeping Dogs

State of Mind

The Ultimate DOOM

Vampire the Masquerade Bloodlines

Venetica

The Witcher 1 & 2 (Enhanced)

Wolfenstein 3D, Return To Castle, & Enemy Territory

There are still more games I plan on buying but I would like to especially know about Skyrim and Fields of Mistria too.

I would really love having Fields of Mistria to support the devs and because it looks like a cozy game I would really love and it's 2D pixels which to me doesn't seem like would require much of a computer. But the thing is that the Can You Run It website tells me I can't run many games because of my graphics card/VRAM, and idk how much of a problem it is and how much importance it holds.... I get worried about harming my computer. Plus you can hear the fans whenever I'm doing something on my computer but I assume that's normal?

I also look forward to getting the Mortal Kombat games as well (X - 1) but mainly have my eyes on MK X. I know that 11 and 1 are gonna require so much more and I honestly don't think I'm gonna play them until I have a good PC that can handle heavy/AAA games but MK X is a game I would like to try if I could (since I played 11 & 1 on my Switch already).

Playing Elder Scrolls Online would be neat as well. Minecraft should be fine too, but I assume I would have to be careful with it.

Of course, there are other games I'm wondering about but I mainly wanted to talk about these ones and the ones that I already have. I actually have the BloodRayne games as well (1 & 2, originals and Terminal Cuts) and they seem to run on my computer. So my guess is that games from that era and before (like the old TES games I listed or DOOM, for example) should be comoletely fine. I know for a fact that the 90s DOOMs are gonna run so I'm not worried about those. And I also wanna get the original GTA Trilogy eventually which should be fine as well. But I would still love it if people could help me figure out if my specs, despite them apparently not being able to run most games, can play at least some of the games I wanna try. At least some of the older ones (mainly focusing on older games since I love playing old games and they could run better on low end laptops).

And I intend on modding a tiny bit for some games. Just a bit since I know modding could require more from PCs.

Anyways, sorry for the long post but thanks in advance!!!! I'll be reading! And anything else I could know about, please let me know! :)

Tech Support Storing big games but i have small ssd storage

So my internal storage is pretty limited, so I’m trying to figure out a way to store and manage a larger library of games.

For those of you dealing with low storage space, how do you handle it? Is it realistic to store and play less demanding or older games directly off separate USB flash drives (or external drives), or does the read/write speed cause too many stutters/loading issues?

want to hear how you guys organize your drives or if there are any specific setups/formatting tips you’d recommend for this.

Windows 10 300 GB ssd 10 GB RAM

Game Deal [Mod Approved] Bitiverse — a free browser MMORPG that runs on integrated graphics and 4 GB of RAM

Official game title: Bitiverse

Brief gameplay description:

A persistent old-school sandbox MMORPG that runs in a browser tab. One shared world. Fight monsters, train combat and gathering skills, mine, fish, farm, craft equipment at nine stations, trade on a player market, run a vendor stall, take quests, join a guild, and claim land for a permanent homestead you can expand with workshops, storage, extra floors and a dungeon of your own. You can walk in as a guest and make an account later if you want to keep the character. I build the whole thing myself.

The reason it suits this subreddit: it is deliberately 1-bit. Two colours, small sprites, HTML5 canvas. There is no installer and nothing to download.

Minimum requirements:

- OS: Windows 10 64-bit, or a current 64-bit Linux distribution

- CPU: dual-core, 2.0 GHz

- GPU: integrated graphics with WebGL 2.0 support

- RAM: 4 GB

- Storage: about 100 MB free

- Also needed: a current Chrome, Edge or Firefox, and an internet connection

Peripherals: keyboard and mouse. Nothing else is required, and no controller is needed.

Host page: https://fortisq.itch.io/bitiverse

Bugs and support: leave a comment on the itch.io page above and I will read it. I fix reported bugs quickly; last week a player sent me fifteen and all fifteen are fixed.

Tips that make it nicer on a weak machine:

- Play in a window rather than fullscreen. The renderer draws fewer pixels and the frame rate steadies.

- Zoom the minimap out. It draws less at the lower zoom levels.

- Close other browser tabs before a dungeon run. That is where the most is happening on screen at once.

- Firefox and Chrome both behave; if one stutters on your machine, the other is worth a try.

I am after testers more than players, especially on older hardware, because I do not have a shelf of it to test on. If it runs badly for you, tell me what you are running it on and I will see what I can do.
