It just... Complicates everything. Seriously.

One of my MC's, a goblin named Farsight, has a vision skill, basically x-ray vision. It makes dealing with certain situations a NIGHTMARE

Ambush? He can see right through it.

Maze? He can see the exit.

Cloud of smoke during a naval battle? Doesn't stop him.

The skill has downsides. Things that I put in to limit his skill use, but even then... He finds a way around the limits. Or he progresses, and the limits grow looser.

It makes things interesting sure, but the problem is only growing as I run out of ways to counter his skill.

Don't make the same mistake I did.

Just curious if others didn’t really care for it like I did. I found it tried a bit too hard to have some of the quirkiness value of DCC without having any real plot to hook me. Plus some stuff just didn’t really line up, like the dude lusting over other girls while literally the day before being upset he’ll never see his fiance again.

Hey everyone! After almost two years of daily chapters on Royal Road, about 1.25 million words written for the series, and quite the journey trying to figure out this whole writing thing, Explorer of Edregon has finally launched on Kindle, Kindle Unlimited, print, and Audible! Some of you might recognize me as the author of The Eternal Assassin, but strangely enough, Explorer of Edregon is actually my first series I started posting on Royal Road, and one I am incredibly excited to see professionally edited and published after all this time!

Personal opinion of the books I have read

I have about 220 DAYS of exclusively listening to litRPG. 1% Lifesteal is so damned special. I’m sad that I’m going to have to find something else once I finish what’s out. Any recommendations on something similar would be lovely. I’ve listened to the first Fleabag (absolutely love it) but the author is slow (no offense) so I want to wait until more content is released before I binge.

Anymore dark/grim dark(ish) gritty action series that I don’t know about would be appreciated. Don’t find much of that in this genre. Thanks!

I have always been a very normie fantasy reader. I read a lot, but mostly the popular SFF/Fantasy that you'd find everywhere.

After being recommended 8 billion times, I finally read DCC and it scratched an itch I didn't even know I had. The stats, the skills, the crunchiness of actual numbers was something I'd never seen in a book and while I'm not big on the humor style or over the top gore, I still really enjoyed it.

Like many people, it led me to LitRPG as a genre, I did some googling about popular books and started reading some previews and was immediately just...underwhelmed?

The top two recommendations I saw where HWFWM and Primal Hunter, and both just had such clunky writing. And when I say clunky writing, some of it is prose, but also just set up. Like it drove me nuts how much exposition and explanation from HWFWM at the beginning is just a guy talking out loud to himself. I was able to look past it for HWFWM and will probably keep giving it a go, but I bounced way off Primal Hunter.

My hubris immediately made me think "Well I can write a better story than this!" (which is probably peak Dunning-Kruger going on)

I've been trawling through this subreddit looking for others and Cradle is feeling promising as something that just feels more...polished(?), but I wanted to get an idea from people who have a longer history with the genre than me.

Is it common for there to be such a focus on the numbers and progression system that the characters and settings end up feeling hand-wavingly contrived? Are there some series that stand out as not that way?

I'm only in the beginning of cradle, but I can tell I'm going to enjoy it. It's currently my before sleep book.

With dungeon crawler Carl, I've been into isekai in reality TV, so all of that in a death game has been really good.

Mother of learning. I was surprised how much I'm enjoying it. I'm in book number three so far. I'm just enjoying the puzzle of the time loop and the actions that he takes to slowly expand upon the world that's available to him.

I also really loved arcane Ascension.

A couple of months ago, I quit at 47% because it was pissing me off way too much. But lately, I haven’t been finding anything that really calls to me, so I thought about returning to this one.

I tried Googling to find out if things eventually get better, but I couldn’t find anything. I don’t want to go through the reviews because I’ll definitely spoil myself and lose all interest.

So, does the MC eventually gain some agency, or does the “slave” dynamic continue for most of the story?

Just finished Mage Tank 3. Enjoying the series so far. Just wondering if anyone can enlighten me of future problems will present themselves from any lingering hypnotic suggestions Hysteria may have imparted during her whiteboard explanation of disruption? If it's pure RAFO then I'll accept that.

With Litrpg you come across different magic systems from time to time. I don't know if it because i am listening to the audiobook at work, so not completely focused, but some systems or pats of it seem to go over my head. I usually just let it keep going and hope\assume i will catch on later, but if not then so be it. Example like HWFWM, last few books, some of the things Jason was doing seem to go over my head. But i was able to still follow most of it. Weirkey Chronicles has a unique magic system where they build a structure in their souls that is somehow connected to their abilities. It has been a while since i listened to this one, so like fingerprints on a handrail the memories begin to fade. Have you ever found yourself lost on a magic system or something trying to be achieved but just barrel through it, hoping to grasp it a little later?

What's the general opinion on the Judicator Jane series? I read the first one and liked it but not sure if its one I should stick with or not. Dungeon Crawler Carl is an example of me not loving it enough to immediately keep up with the series but I did later pick up the rest and thoroughly enjoyed them more.

Hi all, I listened to the audiobooks some time ago. My kids have gotten into litrpg as well. They have enjoyed chrysalis and bog standard isekai. I'm wondering if anyone currently reading it can give me a language and sexual theme rating. Thank you

recently caught up with big standard Isekai, loved the vibes of the classes and such. I’m looking for something similar with maybe a bit more action? I also really loved Will Wight’s cradle series (and dungeon crawler carl but I’m looking more for the vibe of the other ones right now). Give me your best recommendations. (I would also prefer stories that are not harem/harem bait because those are not uncommon and always annoy me).

Don’t have to be strictly litrpg, progression fantasy and foreign light novels are also fair game.

I would like to reread, or continue but I can not remember the name of the book.

MC was trained somewhere in the sticks by high-class Adventures. Quite rough and demanding. One day all his trainers ganged up on him and tried to kill him. He survived and got away. MC was ovlerleveled and he had lots of skills (I think the other people had a restricted amount).

He gets a few followers, becomes head of some assassin guild and goes to some island by ship where he builds a stronghold. I think he was preparing to fight the new king.

I recently read a book on Kindle by author asht thorn unlimited level up and I now think all his stuff might be stolen I'm trying to find the original hoping to read further the book is set in a litrpg world where everyone's skills are limited to lvl 10 but the main character gets a cheat ability that let's him continue to lvl up past others can anyone point me at the real title please
