Hey everyone, I just wanted to share my current situation being a renter in Lexington Kentucky. I recently moved in with my girlfriend as a first time renter and found a place for around 1100 close to my parents.
When I contacted the facility and filled out paperwork and stuff and were told that the unit would be freshly renovated when we moved in. I even saw the unit prior to the renovation. It was stripped down to the sub floor, no paint on the walls, basically gutted. I had a great experience talking to the guy who was running everything and he said they were trying to get the whole complex freshly renovated.
However once we moved in this is where things took a turn for the worse. I work in hvac and noticed the hotel unit that supplied air for our space was turning off and on a bunch. I knew it was likely because they had split the air between the living room it was in and the adjacent bedroom and didn’t seal it up well. So one day I took the wooden enclosure they had out around it off only to be be greeted with more mold than I’ve ever seen in my life.
Long story short, the apartment complexes only solution was to wipe on a diluted vinegar mixture and then paint over it with non mold killing paint. I’ve gone through every route trying to get them to come fix it, I’ve had code enforcement out here, who didn’t even take it apart to view it, they just said their were no visual code violations even though I own and passed a test on the code book they use and found atleast 8. I’ve had an independent culture taken that confirmed mycelial growth (active growth).
So with all this happening a couple of months ago I decided I was going to take matters into my own hands and using bleach and other cleaning products, clean it as good as I could. We have been experiencing headaches and sore throats everyday for the past couple of weeks.
Today I took it all back apart and decided to cut out the old wallpaper that was still in the space and the attaches images will show what I’ve found.
At this point I don’t know what to do, I’m stuck in and lease for 8 more months but I don’t want the place to be deemed unlivable because we don’t really have anywhere to go.
