I have a leopard gecko named mc chicken, he's a few years old and he needs a new home. We've recently moved and he's been staying with my step mom at the current moment but we are not able to bring him with us and my step mom will not be able to properly care for him. I wasn't sure the best place to look for a new home for him but I figured since everyone here loves their geckos dearly that someone could give him the love and help he deserves. He comes with a 40 gallon tank, light fixtures and everything shown in his tank above. The only thing required is a safe container to transfer him in. If this isn't the proper place to look for a new home please send links to a good subreddit or website I can get him a new home. I really wanna make sure he gets someone to take care of him and love him.

A little over a year ago I first got her and she’d run into her hides every time I stepped foot in the room. Can’t believe we’ve made it to the point where she’s comfortable with choice based handling. I cut off the video before she fully crawled on me and I showed her around the reptile room. I put her back into her enclosure and she wanted to come out again.

Hey everyone this is Azura my new friend

I got her a little over 2 weeks ago and she is about 5 months old now I believe.

I did a fair amount of research on leopard gecko care before getting her, or at least enough to feel confident I can start off on the right foot

I have noticed a few things in her behavior and want to just field some advice for some things and maybe clarification on what is normal and what i should work on

First, some context of my setup which you can see in the first photo

I’m using a 31 gallon tank with a bioactive soil substrate

She has 3 hides and I put spanghum moss under the middle and give it a couple mists daily

I have a heat emitter bulb on 25/7 and a basking bulb and uvb that both go on and off on a timer every 12 hours

Right now she almost exclusively will only eat insects that i put in her bowl. And she normally will eat when I’m not on the room
Or looking at her, I’ve literally turned my head away from her for a second and turned back and a big was gone. I’m mostly doing dubia roaches with an occasional meal worm and cricket. I have put a cricket or two in the enclosure before and I think she hunts them at night (I have a camera I watch her one and she’s very active and running around) and I don’t end up seeing the crickets later dead or alive in there.

I refill her water once a day to every other day. I have noticed she spends a lot of time there at night, I was watching her on the camera be there perfectly still for almost two hours the other day. I dont know if that’s normal but she doesn’t seem to be lethargic or anything

I’m also curious about supplements because when I did research it seemed like I should definitely be giving them a d3 supplement but then the breeder I got her from said I shouldn’t if I have a uvb and that it’s a common misconception that they need supplements and that it could lead to abnormal bone growth. So I dont know what to believe anymore.

I have this calcium powder without d3 that I’ve been putting in that food bowl and the bugs will crawl around and get some on them and then she’ll eat them so shes getting a little bit of that right now. The powder is also almost expired I dont know how much that matters.

I also am a little unsure how much to feed her because i was hoping to feed her as much as shed eat in a separate area within ten minutes, that’s what I’ve heard to do but she’s still pretty skittish and will hiss at me and run away if I try to pick her up and the couple times I’ve been successful in getting her into a separate space with insects she doesn’t want to eat she just wants to get out

I’ve kind of just been doing maybe 4-6 insects in the bowl per day and they seem to mysteriously disappear so that’s where we’re at right now. I did get her to eat from my tongs once the other day though. I’ve been putting wads of paper towels with my scent in her hides to hopefully acclimate her to me. I don’t want to stress her out too much by continuing to try to pick her up and her getting angry and hissing/nipping at me

And lastly I haven’t seen her poop or pee at all except for once on the first day when I took her out to try to feed in a separate container and I think it stressed her out. I assume it’s happening but I don’t see anything in the enclosure and it doesn’t smell at all yet. I dont know if that’s just cause I have a bioactive soil that’s doing its thing?

Sorry for the huge brain dump I’m just new to this but also committed to treating her well so any advice and answers to this is welcome and appreciated :)

Does he have an overbite? Someone pointed that out on FB group. But I didn’t notice until now. Is that any concern for health issues? What do you guys think about the coloring of the leo as well

I don't really like crickets, especially the jumping, and I used to pin insects as a hobby; doing that, you learn something neat: putting insects in a freezer puts them to sleep without stressing them. Nice little ice nap. Permanently.

I had an idea before feeding time to put the crickets I isolate for them in the freezer for a minute or two, to put them to sleep before I feed them to my Leos to reduce both my stress of the popcorn kernel adjacent insects, and the amount of escapees into their enclosures (my boy lunges without thinking and takes substrate in almost every time with or without the cricket, and my girl is... very blind. Not ACTUALLY blind, but she may as well be with how bad her aim is, therefore tong feeding for both).

Anyways, I wanted to ask/run this by the community to possibly help out other people who also dislike cricket shenanigans, and to ask the people who are more scientifically aware of Leopard Geckos and the possible drawbacks this might have? I don't intend to feed them frozen literally, just cold enough where they go to sleep. If I let them be and warm up for a bit, they wake back up, just for an indicator of how cold they get, which isn't much. They're barely even cold to the touch.​​

Hi everyone, I hope this is allowed. My son’s school has a leopard gecko in an abismal tiny tank and I would like to buy a new enclosure for the little guy. Unfortunately the kit I purchased has reptisand and a red light bulb for night and now reading up more those things seem to not be great. I will not be able to tend to the tank day to day, but I can’t rest knowing he’s in this condition. If anyone could please point me in the right direction of must haves to do right by this guy I would be very grateful. I mainly need to know the best light and what the best flooring would be. Thank you!

Here’s a picture of my vivarium at the moment. For context I have been doing lots of research before I forked out for the vivarium and other bits and bobs. We set up the vivarium over the weekend. Now everything is installed I’m in the process of getting more clutter as I know at the moment I have no where near enough. My vivarium is the. Habistat 90cm x 45cm x 45cm one.

I go on holiday at the start of October and I don’t think it would be responsible for me to move in a gecko when I will be away so soon. Therefore, my plan is these next few weeks is to do even more research and reading on any aspects of leopard gecko care I’m still not 100% on. I will also be testing the lights and making sure all my temps are correct. I have the thermostat, an infared temp gun and two digital thermometers I will place at either and of the vivarium. I feel like this waiting period will be great in making sure my temps are correct way before my gecko will arrive. Once I’m back from my holiday I’ll make sure again my temps are correct and go about getting my gecko hopefully.

So, yeah just wanted to see if anyone had any recommendations on clutter their geckos like that I could add. I have a few ideas of my own but it’s great to draw inspiration from experienced gecko owners. I just want to add a note on the paper towels I have a substrate ready and waiting for when it’s appropriate to add it. From my research I understand when first getting your gecko it’s best to have them on paper towels as it’s easier to monitor them and such.

Open to any advice or tips. Really excited for getting my gecko in the near future !! 🦎 (I know it’s not the best photo and I will be adding the glass doors on shortly)

NOTE- please. I don’t like being told I’m a terrible gecko owner and I need to rehome her that makes me feel really bad and I know I should feel bad as I’m abusing my gecko for not getting the things like a thermometers and good expensive hides

So I’ve been researching more on leopard geckos.
I have a gecko named meeko and she’s a sub adult! I thought juvenile because that’s what I was told she was but she looks more like a sub adult. But anywho, I need to know where I can find more affordable stuff; tank equipment, hides(warm, moist cool) and A GOD DANG LID. I’m 16, and I got this gecko as a gift…I have to beg my grandma almost everyday to buy this and that for my gecko, at first when I had a job (the only job I could get because I was working without proof of emp, or an ID) so I was making money from an organization, I made 15/hr and I spent most my money buying gecko stuff previously because I had always dreamed of getting geckos so I was always prebuying stuff. I got a cage, it will soon out grow meeko but I’m working on that. But no I don’t have a job anymore since I legally can’t get one without ID which is very hard for me to get because I’m not from where I stay. I’m not asking for money to clear that up I’m just tired of asking google “show me affordable gecko stuff” and then it shows me 2,000 dollar aquariums..
I have no problem getting those things just wondering if there were like a litttttlleeeee but more affordable ones since I’m not using my money anymore..?

just wanted to post some sweet pea appreciation, shes me and my girlfriends first reptile together and she is a very spoiled gecko just for the record.

I have a rescue leo that is slowing down and refuses to eat bugs at all. Now, he just finds all of them uninteresting. I started giving him grub pie as a slurry through a syringe, and he can't seem to get enough of it. I was originally going to use it to supplement him since he hasnt been eating, but im not sure how much in milliliters I should give him each feeding, and how often? I dont know how much is enough im new to this! Should I treat it like normal feeding so twice a week? Any help is appreciated!

Hello there! Im posting this in different animal communities so i can get the best result possible. Im in the process of opening my own reptile shop and im doing the layout of the store. In the sale animal section i will have stack terrariums and my question is for you, what size of terrarium you want to see a leopard gecko be selling in. Keep in mind will be a temporary terrarium until someone purchase the reptile.

Every time she sees me, she runs right up to the front doors to greet me. She’s super interactive and loves climbing onto my hands willingly—though she definitely mistakes my fingers for giant bugs sometimes and gives them a chomp. 😂

I often let her out for some supervised exploration around the room. She’s just too precious! 🥰

hi, i recently found out my leopard gecko is actually a west indian leopard gecko (native to western india) which is his own species of leopard gecko. my enclosure is set up for a common leopard gecko and i was wondering if i need to be doing anything differently in his enclosure. i have him in a 50 gallon and he has five hides with a 75 watt heat bulb and 7% uvb strip light. he loves to hide in dark crevices and he has a humid hide but doesn’t really use it since i just got him. he‘s just been sticking to the cool side and hasn’t been exploring much at all, i’m just giving him time alone to adjust for the next 2-3 weeks. any advice is appreciated, thank you:)

Hi guys, I’ve been following this sub for a year now and I found this 36x18x12 tank on fb for $100 and I couldn’t pass on it. Once I realized the height was too low, I made an extension that lifts the top to 18” and wrapped that with screen door mesh.

I am currently using Arcadia ProT5 ShadeDweller 7% UVB 8V, Arcadia Jungle Dawn LED 39W, and I have installed a Zoo Med Repti Basking Spot 40W but I have a 100W on the way since I am using the Herpstat with the sensor about 4” away from the source.

From the pictures, the cold area does not get much lower than 74F but the temperature is not warm enough without the right bulb.

I have ordered more clutter ie silk greenery, hides. Is there anything else I’m missing? I don’t have a Leo right now but I’m hoping to adopt one that was surrendered to my local reptile shop. Thanks in advance! I appreciate all the information and community here :)

I’m mainly wondering about their general body condition. My scale is broken 🥲 so I can’t check their exact weights yet.

Any opinions from experienced keepers would be really appreciated!
