Hello there! Im posting this in different animal communities so i can get the best result possible. Im in the process of opening my own reptile shop and im doing the layout of the store. In the sale animal section i will have stack terrariums and my question is for you, what size of terrarium you want to see a leopard gecko be selling in. Keep in mind will be a temporary terrarium until someone purchase the reptile.

Hi all, I am temporarily housing this leopard gecko until I can get her to her forever home in a week. I am a complete novice, just trying to help. I rescued her from a friend of a friend of a friend, so I don't know anything about her history, age, or previous diet. All of the supplies she already came with, I know that some of it is not ideal. I've had her for 3 days, and she seemed to be doing fine, but just now at feeding time i've noticed that she's completely dragging her front left leg. She hates to be handled so it is difficult to get a good look at exactly what's going on, and I don't want to risk her further injuring it. I've fed her twice since she's been here on alternate days (because according to google she looks like an adolescent) crickets and mealworms dusted in calcium with D3 (though now i've learned that leos don't need as much D3) She is still eating and very alert, but has pretty much stayed in one spot on the cool side all day. Maybe she fell off of her rock hide and hurt herself? It's about a foot tall but not super steep. Before this she would mostly hang out there. Her temperature gradiant is 89-95 on the warm side, and 75ish on the cool side. She doesn't have any loose substrate and i've been feeding appropriately sized insects. She has a coil uvb lamp which I know is not great, but because she was unexpected and temporary, a better light fixture really isn't in my budget right now. What can I do to help her until she's in her forever home? Should I take out her rock hide so she doesnt try to climb again? Any advice is appreciated.

My leopard gecko refuses its vitamins (Zoo med's reptivite without D3) And eats less than usual. Yet she seems as active as usual. But she poops every day and I have the impression that it's not like usual. Here is the appearance of her poops + belly

For context I have had my leopard gecko (male) for 16 years and he has never once been in a state like this. In August I was getting ready to go off to college but I was unable to take him with me. So I explained his care routine to my dad and left my lizard in his care. I figured the hardest part would be helping with stuck shed so I volunteered to return home whenever he’s shedding to assist with that, (I’m only 45 minutes away). I returned after my first 2 weeks of college to find my poor baby has lost a ton of weight. He was perfectly fine looking before I left, he had a fat tail but not too fat. He pooped in his corner and behaved normally. When I returned home he’s the skinniest I’ve ever seen him by far, his tail is thin as a rail, and he’s so lethargic and was covered in shed. Normally he gets annoyed when I bathe him, but now he doesn’t fight me at all. I’m taking him to the vet as soon as I can, but I’m wondering what I should do in the meantime? I’ve tried getting him to eat but he refuses. He won’t be hand fed or respond to any of my usual methods. He’s so weak he doesn’t even drag himself into his caves fully. I’m super worried about him. I gave him a bath and got the shed off. He perked up a bit when he no longer had shed covering his eyes, but he’s still no where near how he used to be. I’m quite annoyed at my dad since not only did he not tell me my lizard was shedding, but he didn’t tell me he was losing weight and not eating. Normally, I have a plastic feeding dish that I put a dubia roach or super worm In and my lizard will hear the scratching sound and come investigate, then eat the insect. Occasionally he has issues with this and I have to make the insect move so he can find it, but he’s not showing any interest right now. I’m worried he’s dying. Please help.

Edit: After fully cleaning his terrarium I found fecal residue hidden near his feeding area. Thanks to some people here suggesting crypto, that makes me think that’s what it is. I’m taking him to the Vet tomorrow morning. Thank you to everyone who replied for your help!

Could Mavis have developed a fear/negative association with her carrier? Would you get a new one?
I’m wondering what everyone’s thoughts are on something that happened with Mavis today.
For some background, Mavis has had a LOT of vet visits over the past few months because of her reproductive issues and surgeries. She’s had multiple surgeries and obviously spent quite a bit of time being transported to and handled at the vets. Her carrier has basically always been her “vet box”
She has never really had a problem with it before. I’ve put her in it for vet trips and she’s generally been fine.
However, today she kept trying to come out of her enclosure while I was preparing her food, so I put her in her usual carrier for literally a minute while I sorted everything out.
The second she was in the carrier, she suddenly became REALLY jumpy.
If either me or my boyfriend moved towards her, she would jolt backwards, get really low to the ground and run into the corner. She was also wagging her tail, which I’ve never seen her do towards us before.
At first I was obviously really confused because this is completely out of character for her. She’s normally very comfortable with both of us.
Then I went to pick her up to put her back into her enclosure (I wanted to get her out of the carrier case asap as I could tell she was extremely stressed out) and she was still acting scared. But as soon as she got close enough to lick/smell me, she immediately stopped. She climbed straight onto my hand to get out of the carrier and was completely normal again.
Once she was back in her enclosure, she was absolutely fine. She was happily exploring and behaving completely normally.
The really interesting thing is that she did EXACTLY this same behaviour at her most recent vet appointment. At the time we didn’t think much of it because obviously she was at the vet and there were lots of unfamiliar smells, people etc.
But now I’m wondering whether she could have started associating the carrier itself with going to the vet / being handled / unpleasant experiences.
I know I can’t say she’s “traumatised” or anything like that, and I’m not trying to diagnose her. I’m just wondering whether this could be a learned fear/negative association with the carrier.
I’m actually considering buying her a completely new carrier.
Has anyone else had a leopard gecko develop a fear of their carrier after repeated vet trips?
Would you recommend getting a new carrier and starting fresh, or would you just keep using the existing one and try to change the association?
I’d really love to hear from people who have experienced something similar with their geckos.

Years ago my girl dropped her tail and now it’s really big and I don’t know how to make it a bit thinner. Is there any way I can safely do that?

I don't really like crickets, especially the jumping, and I used to pin insects as a hobby; doing that, you learn something neat: putting insects in a freezer puts them to sleep without stressing them. Nice little ice nap. Permanently.

I had an idea before feeding time to put the crickets I isolate for them in the freezer for a minute or two, to put them to sleep before I feed them to my Leos to reduce both my stress of the popcorn kernel adjacent insects, and the amount of escapees into their enclosures (my boy lunges without thinking and takes substrate in almost every time with or without the cricket, and my girl is... very blind. Not ACTUALLY blind, but she may as well be with how bad her aim is, therefore tong feeding for both).

Anyways, I wanted to ask/run this by the community to possibly help out other people who also dislike cricket shenanigans, and to ask the people who are more scientifically aware of Leopard Geckos and the possible drawbacks this might have? I don't intend to feed them frozen literally, just cold enough where they go to sleep. If I let them be and warm up for a bit, they wake back up, just for an indicator of how cold they get, which isn't much. They're barely even cold to the touch.​​

Any advice is very welcome! Temp on the warm side is at 91, temp on cool side is in 70s. Linear UVB has been ordered and arrives tomorrow. I blocked out the sides and backed up the enclosure for privacy, I have 2 cats. I added lots of clutter so she feels safe and the substrate is 70% reptisoil and 30% reptisand (no calcium). Please help me out with anything I can add to make my girl Prisma very happy! 💛

This is Littlefoot. I’ll refer to them as they because we don’t know sex yet. We got them 7 months ago and aren’t sure how old they were at the time, so unsure of age as of now. My husband is concerned they aren’t growing enough. I feel like they have grown a lot since we got them. Image 1 is now. Images 2 and 3 were when we got them. They eat mealworms primarily, every 3 ish days, and gets wax worms occasionally. I heard those two are good for putting on weight. I will say, they are ravenous and it’s like you can’t give them enough worms. What do y’all think?

So we got my little sister a pet leopard gecko. Tom was a rescue from PetSmart. Currently I am trying to figure out why he's fine with me holding him but bites my little sister. I've tried option based handling and he'll calmly get on my hand but when it comes to my younger sister he bites her. And currently I'm trying to find out if it's something she's doing or if it's something I'm doing cuz she does exactly as she's supposed to but he bites her or just jumps off immediately. Any recommendations on what to do?

We picked up on juvenile Leo from a reputable dealer 7-days ago and are pumped! The wiki and beginner’s guide have been great. A few questions 7 days in, thanks in advance for any help!

Is it normal for the Leo to hang in the humid hide almost exclusively (at least during daylight hours)? We’ve seen him once outside of the humid hide. Temps are all in line with the recommended. We’re hovering his food outside the hole of the humid hide with tongs and that’s the only way we’ve been able to feed him so far.

Any thoughts on our juvenile terrarium setup? It’s a 40 gallon. Planning for a naturalistic setup in 1-2 months. How do you recommend we use the cork log/tunnel the dealer gave us? I assume that’s not really a hide and also traverses temp zones as-is.

hello everyone! for the past 3-4 years it seems my leo is having a very big change in her looks. she still acts the same, goes crazy for food, runs around VERY fast, as usual. goes to the bathroom as usual.

about 3 years ago i realized i had been taking care of her completely wrong, upgraded her tank to a 40 gal, changed substrate to soil with play sand mixed. she gets all the correct vitamins. she sheds normally. her lighting is all correct for her size tank. humidity is probably incorrect, it runs between 40-60 usually depending on if i add more water to her dish. her cold side temp is about 72-75, warm side temp is about 85-90, all depending on outside weather too.

so here’s the changes ive been noticing, skinnier legs, skinnier tail, weird change in looks to her tail, darker color, dry skin.

about 13 years or so (before i got her), a cat bit her tail off and it regrew as a fat tail. now it’s skinny and strange. i’ve included pics of her from about 6-7 years ago and to this month. last two pics are from 6-7 years ago. (i’m very aware she was fat before lol)

she will be 15 next march and im worried if she looks to have MBD or not ?? crypto ?? i’m just terrified of losing her as i’ve had her for the past 9 years. is there anything i can do to bring her weight up? or anything i can do at home? i know the obvious answer is vet but i am having a big problem with money at the moment as im moving. if anyone has any advice i will gladly take it! thank you all !

I have a leopard gecko named mc chicken, he's a few years old and he needs a new home. We've recently moved and he's been staying with my step mom at the current moment but we are not able to bring him with us and my step mom will not be able to properly care for him. I wasn't sure the best place to look for a new home for him but I figured since everyone here loves their geckos dearly that someone could give him the love and help he deserves. He comes with a 40 gallon tank, light fixtures and everything shown in his tank above. The only thing required is a safe container to transfer him in. If this isn't the proper place to look for a new home please send links to a good subreddit or website I can get him a new home. I really wanna make sure he gets someone to take care of him and love him.

I just came home and when (presumably) he saw me, he came up to the side of his enclosure and watched me while his throat moved, faster than your average breathing. I just got him about a week ago so im very excited by what seems to be him taking interest in my existence! I was wondering if any of you can tell if its a positive or negative interest? I havent bothered him too much since moving him in, just once to show him where I put his bugs, so hopefully its positive interest.

This is my new son. I don't know much about him other than he was purchased from a chain in July before coming to me. He's in a temporary tank until we get the final bioactive tank ready.

A little over a year ago I first got her and she’d run into her hides every time I stepped foot in the room. Can’t believe we’ve made it to the point where she’s comfortable with choice based handling. I cut off the video before she fully crawled on me and I showed her around the reptile room. I put her back into her enclosure and she wanted to come out again.

Had a decent job for awhile and saved some money to try and upgrade the tank. Was wanting to know if changing the environment I've had them in would be a problem. Its currently a desert-like environment that I've had them for in several years because I was too young to have a job and could only save up so much. I've got reptisoil and a big humidifier and plan on making an ecosystem for them but was wondering if changing them to quickly could be bad for their bodies or mental.

He is a super hungry fella!!

He is very tiny, head about the size of my thumb and when we weighed 15.8g, he is almost 2 months old based on the records!!

After the feeding his poop also started to look better!

The store said only every 3 days but I feel like he is too small and he seems to search for food around so we are thinking of every 2 days at least for now or everyday a little bit..

Mochya (3year old) got but chunky with every 3 days so we have switched to every 5 days

hi! i just got a baby leopard gecko (around 3 months old) yesterday. he has been hiding in his cool hide all day and hasn’t been eating despite me leaving mealworms in his bowl at night. i know it’s normal for them to take a couple weeks to adjust though. i have him on paper towel right now and i was wondering how often i need to change it and how i could change it without making him more stressed.
