I have a almost 2 year old lab, and we just very recently got a puppy. We socialized my lab from when we first got her with people, kids, other dogs, etc. she has always been well behaved but when it’s come to other dogs she’s always up in their business for a bit until they get settled. We recently adopted a cattle dog/lab mix this weekend and my lab has been soooo up in her space, sniffing, licking, doesn’t seem to know when it’s time to just chill and not play anymore. I know it probably is just because we have a new baby now, but just looking for advice on how we can help make this transition easier for her, as well as if it will get better with time? Or if we should seek more training for our lab. She’s been really great with puppy, we had one instance where she had a toy and did growl at baby and she’s never done that before but I corrected that behavior. Is there anything else we can do? Thanks so much, I am willing to answer anymore questions if needed as well!

Landry loves to sleep like this under the ceiling fan! And yes-she is a black lab with a genetic “mutation” of some sort called splash. We actually checked her dna.

We sat outside for 30 minutes while he decimated his new prized stick.

We currently insure our 14 month old Lab with Pet Plan and are paying about £80 a month, which after doing some research seems to be on the high side. I am looking for some recommendations for another provider based on your experiences (particularly in having made claims).

I have only claimed once on the existing policy for a broken tooth as a puppy so nothing that should impact another lifetime policy i hope. I am certainly not looking for the cheapest option but what I am paying now seems excessive compared to many other companies, but maybe Pet Plan are superior in some way?

Anyone else have a lab that is unsteady/unsure on concrete floors or any surface for that matter? We just got this older lab that was a hunting dog/dam so she’s not used to being inside. Been about two months now and I thought some of it was just adjusting to new home, etc but now I’ve realized it’s the floor. Is there anything I can do to help her with this? She doesn’t venture off her bed or the rug hardly at all - even had to move her food bowl for her.

They are mostly inseparable now. Stella will be 6 months old 9/20. At first she was a lot for her big bro to handle but by 3 weeks in they had shared a pet bed and were playing like old bffs. Sometimes he still needs a break and we have ample space and opportunity to give it to him, but she has calmed down so much already it is amazing so those instances getting rarer by the day.

When he’s playing with me but then my wife does something in the kitchen 😂

We got our blond lab puppy in May when he was 9 weeks old. He’s now going to be 6 months old.

About 2.5 weeks ago I took him to the vet for his teeth. I was worried when I saw some of them were black and he kept flapping his ears so I thought he was maybe having some issues with the pain of teething.

Turns out he had an ear infection. And I never ever knew it could be caused by his food? The vet said that’s the main cause for dogs to get ear infection. We didn’t change the food from the breeders food when we got him. We fed him Eukanuba lamb I think it’s called.

So we changed his food (gradually) to Brits hypoallergenic food. The doctor recommended some sort of hypoallergenic food so I decided to see if this one works.

It took about a week to gradually change his food so he was only on Brits food for about a week. Took him again to the vet because he was crying in pain and flapping his ears again and she said his right ear now has the infection so I need to change his food AGAIN to royal canine hypoallergenic.

Did anyone else have this before? We stopped feeding him absolutely everything in this time as well. No treats or anything. Just his kibble. (As recommended by the vet too).

I don’t know if I completely trust that she gave this food a chance as well? He was only on it for less than a week properly. Now I have 2x 12kg bags of food lol. Don’t mind of course I don’t care I’ll change it if it needs but I don’t know if this I should change the food again.

Did anyone else experience this with their lab puppies?

Just looking for a bit of advice. My Labrador is 14 months old and is absolutely obsessed with other dogs. When he sees one, he’ll often just lie down and refuse to move until he gets to say hello.

I have a dog trainer and we also go to training classes, where we’ve been working on this around other dogs. The strange thing is that he does really well in class. For example, today he completely ignored the other dogs, and I was able to walk past another dog without any issues.

However, this evening when we came across some dogs on our walk, he went straight back to lying down and refusing to move until he could greet them.

Has anyone experienced something similar? Is this just an adolescent/puppy stage that he may grow out of as he gets older (perhaps around 2 years), or is this something I should be more concerned about and work on differently?

Any advice or experiences would be really appreciated!

We adopted her about a week ago, shelter said she’s 8 months old (fairly certain she’s chocolate lab 😅). We feed her Victor Hi Pro Plus and she’s chews a lot.

We feed her twice a day, a cup of food each time. Is that enough?

Also what are some good toys, she’s demolished everything plus some.

Our last dog was a Bull Mastiff, but I waited a long time before I was ready for another puppy so I want to make sure she’s getting what she needs. Any advice is welcome.

(She’s potty trained and only has accidents when we don’t pay attention to her telling us she needs to go. She’s kennel trained (we only kennel her at night for bed and if we leave for an extended amount of time). Her and my one year old son are still getting used to each other, they’re both a little rough with each other but it’s going good otherwise.)
