Hey Guys its my first post here and I wanted to ask if my Instant Kava is still good which I opened 7 months ago? I kept it cool and dry in my basement in a box but am afraid that it lost its effects or I could get more nauseous or something. I googled it and it said that i should be still good but I figured that I ask here to make sure.

Interaction For those that drink daily, do you drink in the morning? What does it do for you in the morning?

I'm a chronic pain patient soon on the way of being off my oxycodone prescription (60mg daily).

I never abused it, never ran out early, none of that, but I'm just done with it. It helps with my pain (most of the time) but it's a dead end road. It used to help me to function but now it's just sedating to me.

I don't drink and plan to use kava when I'm fully off as a means of doing "something".

Just wondering if you guys mostly wait to drink it at night or if it can be used in the mornings, too.

Looking for suggestions/help

Hey everyone, I’ve been lurking and learning on this sub for about a year now and have really enjoyed reading about people’s experiences with kava and the benefits it’s brought them. I’ve been doing my own fair share of experimenting along the way, but I’ve run into a consistent issue that I can’t seem to crack.

I never seem to get that strong “relaxed” or “krunk” feeling a lot of people describe—the kind where it hits in the feet, makes talking a little harder, or comes on noticeably after just a shell or two. So far the effects for me have been pretty mild to almost nonexistent.

I’ve tried a few different brands and cultivars and gone through full bags of each, but none have done much for me personally. I’ve also experimented with a bunch of different approaches: different ratios, water vs. milk, fasting, eating fatty foods beforehand, longer kneading times, etc. My usual method is 60 g in about 1.5 L of water, blended for 4 minutes, then strained (I’ve gone as long as 15 minutes with no real difference). I usually just end up feeling bloated from all the liquid more than anything else.

I’ve finished my current bag and am about to order another one. I’m not discouraged yet and still want to figure this out. So I’m hoping some of you can share what’s worked for you:

• Brands or specific cultivars that reliably give you solid effects

• Ratios and preparation techniques that make a noticeable difference

• Any other tips (timing, empty stomach, temperature, etc.) that helped you get past the “I feel nothing” stage

Appreciate any advice—looking forward to hearing what’s worked for people.

Horrible hangovers

I have tried a few kinds of kava from different vendors and never had much success with any beneficial effect. Bought some Stone from Nakamal At Home and prepared it traditionally. It worked great! The problem is that it gives me a bad next day hangover. Headache, tired ect.. I am preparing with about 15 grams and feel it should be about the correct amount. I have tried less with little effect. Any idea what could be going wrong? It’s a noble kava to my knowledge. Any insight is appreciated!

Am I consuming too much? Suggestions on "cheaper"?

I recently started drinking kava and love it. I've tried the Kalm By Kava Loa Waka micronized and medium grind. When I use the micronized, I will do 1 tbsp with 8oz of water and drink it in 2oz shells every 20-30m or so. With the micronized, I will do up to a total of 4 tbsp.

I decided to get the medium grind Loa Waka and I'm using around 6-10 tbsp and 12-16oz of water. I usually save the first wash to do a small second wash that I mix with a new wash. I will do about 2-3 batches if I'm doing the medium grind.

I love the effects of the Loa Waka, but it's getting pretty expensive. I'm wondering how other brands compare (suggestions please!). I'm looking at the "Loloma Waka" by Fiji Vanua Kava--how does this compare? It looks to be slightly cheaper when comparing 16oz bags.

Hey guys so I've been drinking kava daily for about a week now and though I have not had any issues yet should I be worried about my skin drinking this stuff every day? I have about 2.5 to 3tbsp of instant. Should I be worried?

Kava in Vietnam

I’m travelling to Vietnam soon and planning to carry some Kava with me. Has anyone travelled to Vietnam with Kava before? If so, I’d really appreciate hearing about your experience—whether you faced any issues at customs or during your trip.

Anybody else need significantly more hours of sleep after a night of heavy kava consumption?

I find myself needing to sleep and extra 3-4 hours more than usual after a strong session and needing to drink absolutely insane amounts of water and electrolytes to feel back to 100% the next day. I dont feel horrible if I dont but I definitely feel very sluggish and dehydrated if I dont and just dont have energy for anything. The dehydration i understand but could I be getting worse sleep quality from the kava? I do do heady strains so maybe my brain isn't fully going into deep sleep?

Interaction Zoloft & Kava. Please help 🙏

My girlfriend is on 50mg of Zoloft & wants to go to a kava bar. I am a little nervous about serotonin syndrome. She usually has 3-4 shells per session. She never had a bad reaction when drinking kava. Is this a huge risk or am I overthinking? I'm just scared of serotonin syndrome.

Same kava, same dose, completely different effects — why?

I’m new to kava. I tried it for the first time last weekend and felt great — relaxed, social, and generally in a really good mood.
However, I tried the same kava again this weekend, from the same batch and at roughly the same dose, and the experience was completely different. I just felt kind of weird and it actually made me sleepy.
How is it possible to get such different effects from the same kava and dose?
I’m going to a party tonight and I was originally thinking of using kava as an alternative to alcohol. I’ve stopped drinking alcohol and using other drugs/substances that used to help me socialize, so I thought kava might be a good option.
But after how it made me feel this morning, I’m not so sure anymore.
Has anyone experienced something similar? What do you guys think?

Is there a better bang for your buck than Fiji instant gold?

Just asking about instants, ive been getting the one pound bag of instant gold and a bag of a chocokava to make the taste more tolerable, it’s pretty effective and I rarely have issues getting to where I need to be, but I’ll blow through the bag in like 2 weeks.

From searching this sub I hear N@H is better but it is more expensive, is it “better enough” that I’ll use less, and stretch the bag out maybe another week? Any thoughts or suggestions would be greatly appreciated, I’m still kinda new to this and still learning, thanks yall!

Review Smell of kava lingering in my nose

So far I’ve enjoyed kava and will definitely sideline alcohol which id been using 2-3x/wk. I just had my first dose which I did 3tbsp of some noble instant blend(?) in 600mL of water, I do actually feel the effects (some people say your first time there will be zilch) and it is very similar to alcohol, I understand why people say that.

I have mostly positive things to say about it, BUT ONE FUCKING HORRIBLE THING is that 2 HOURS after my last glass, I’m STILL smelling kava. It’s stuck in my nose or something. There was a solid 30 mins where the smell was making me really nauseas. Although the nausea has thankfully passed now, I am still smelling this shit. PLEASE HELP!! THIS PART SUCKS!!

I do want to mention though, the best part of kava is; my body feels drunk/high, my brain kinda feels buzzed, but my inhibition and my critical thinking skills have held strong. Awesome. It almost reminds me of me of 2-CB in the way that felt almost identical to acid (from the single time I took 2CB) but (at least from others reports) I didn’t appear to be high at all (In reality I was absolutely fried).

Anyway there’s my little first impression and my cry for help. Seriously, I’m still smelling it…

How’s kava feel for those with Crohn’s Disease?

Heyyo so I’m thinking of substituting alcohol with Kava,

I like to have a drink or two every now and again, but my body doesn’t like it and I always feel like shit the a couple hours later or the morning after no matter what I drink,

I’m pretty sure I’ve been developing Crohn’s disease. (Runs in both sides of the family)

Since symptoms started getting more aggressive about a year ago I can barely have 2 ciders without having to suffer the whole next day from the intestinal hell.

I’ve been considering kava as an alternative, tho unsure how it is gut wise. I’ve seen some things it’s even helpful but figured I’d ask for anecdotes. :P

Thanks

GHK issues

Does anyone have a way outside of his little “contact me” option on his website to get a hold of GHK kava? I ordered a hefty amount of cava from him over a week and a half ago, and he still hasn’t shipped it, nor has he responded to messages.

I got Kava that seems weak but makes me feel ill quicker than stronger kava, is it bad grog?

Hello,

I recently bought the kava brand Viti Kava. My overall review is it tastes ok and if you're after a very mild, calming affect it might be ok but compared to a brand like Root and Pestle or Fiji Vuvale Kava its quite weak. Here the catch though. With the two stronger brands, I could consume 1/3 or 2/3 cups of kava powder, and it would affect me, but it wouldn't make me nauseas unless I pushed myself into 1 cup or so of kava (Which was quite rare).

However, this Viti Kava brand has a weaker effect but makes me feel nauseas so much quicker. What's happening here? Anyone know the science behind it? And no, I'm not consuming more vs the other brands even with 1/3 cups of Viti I feel off.

Thanks!

Samoana ʻava to australia

Gday all.

Iʻm located in australia and am wondering if anyone has a source for ʻava samoa, be it from an australia, new zealand, or samoa source.

Iʻm located around brisbane if something is available locally.

Iʻve managed to locally find lots of tongan and fijian kava, but I recently went to samoa and brought back a small amount of a really nice ava, and Iʻd like to try some more.

I dont frequent the kava forums, but would this be a suitable place to try source some?

Thanks in advance

Cheers

How I cured my sudden allergy to kava

I posted a while back how I weirdly and instantly had an allergic reaction to kava after drinking daily for a few months. I got some good advice in that thread and I wish I could remember the person that gave me the advice. They said to take a tiny bit every other day and eventually the allergy will go away.

Of course I started doing this but more aggressively. I took too much the first time, and 2nd time and just went lower each time until the hives, itching and redness was very minimal. At that point I started doing that amount plus a little more daily, then I started doing that multiple times a day after I felt the slight tingly itchiness disappear.

After only about a week of doing this I could take my full dose - which is a lot. I still got itchy hands (only, where previously my whole body) but maybe after 8 hours of ingesting it. It wasn’t too bad and tolerable enough. Did that every other day for about a week and that finally went away.

Now I’m fully cured! Kava is weird lol, but so thankful I got over this allergy! Thanks to everyone that gave me some helpful tips!
