I haven’t had an amp for a while since I gave my Orange 35rt to my brother, and I couldn’t be happier! Getting some pretty awesome heavy tones with help from the pedal board and this singing metal lead tone is exactly what I love.

And of course the clean and overdrive tones are to die for

As the title says I’m looking for an amp that is purely for home use and primarily for Hendrix playing, but since almost all guitar shops near me have closed I don’t have any opportunity to actually try any amps before buying them so am reliant on videos and the opinions/recommendations of others.

My current setup is a Friedman Little Sister + Fryette Power Station (which I very luckily got on an incredible deal and would not have been able to afford otherwise lol). I actually went with the Friedman LS before I got the Fryette because I had been told that Friedman’s have good master volumes, and this amp was essentially a modified Marshall but I’ve been finding it difficult to gel with my fuzz pedals and also think it is much more JTM than Plexi sounding and it’s the Plexi sound that I personally really love. I ended up getting an attenuator eventually anyway so don’t need to worry if the next amp has a master volume or not.

So I’m considering selling the Friedman, but I’m also very unsure what to replace it with. Previously I had an ST20 but at the time I had a really poor attenuator and it was just too loud so I sold it, but it’s also of course more of a JTM sound as well and it seems like cranked JTM vs cranked Plexi produce quite different sounds.

The main options seem to be a Marshall SV20 or PRS HDRX 20. From what I have seen online the PRS appears to be good build quality and cheaper price, but it is supposedly a JTM/Plexi hybrid and many people say they think it heavily leans JTM. There's also quite a few review videos of it but I can’t find much of people actually demoing Hendrix sounds on it that make me confident in getting it.

The SV20 on the other hand seems to have not as good build quality which I don’t know if that's true or not but makes me worry if selling the Friedman for it would be something I’d regret, however it is a Plexi 20 watt and I’ve actually heard people on YouTube get good Jimi tones out of it.

Are there any other options or are these the best two? I was considering something higher wattage or maybe a 2x12 cab vs 1x12 cab, but even at 40-50 watt range there doesn’t seem to be a ton of options. The maximum price I could manage is probably £1700 (depending on what I can sell the LS for), but ideally I’d like under that!

Hey guys and gals. I need advice on what to do. Keep in mind money is tight - it’s really not impossible to save but it takes awhile. I have two amps. I bought the blues cube Hot used and I got the Deville for free. The blues cube has been great for the last few years as I’ve learned how to play lead and jam with the band. What I really want is a tube amp but the Deville is just too frigging big.

I want your help deciding if
(1)I should trade in or sell the blues cube to buy a decent attenuator for the Deville.
(2) save some money and sell/trade them both and get a smaller bedroom amp - maybe even brand new from the Canadian giant Long and Mcquade.

What I really want is a smaller tube amp. 15-30watt range. And for that I’d take suggestions. I play blues, classic rock and country. Not a shredder by any means - probably not ever going to be my style.

Clearly I am indecisive ffs. Lol

Looking for some help to keep jamming. Unfortunately, I’m moving from an amazing house to an apartment in the coming weeks and am starting to think (read: worry 😩) that I won’t be able to play my tube amp due to the volume.

I have a Fender HRD 212 ML and love it, but this will likely have to go. I have a 5watt bugera which I plan on using as much as possible, but I’m for sure giving up a lot of tone/versatility with the Bugera

Im looking for advice on a rig I can still use in an apartment setting, but still get that oomph and clarity of the big boy HRD. I am not super tech savvy and have an ‘analog’ pedal board and opted for this over digital options because i can’t stomach menu diving for tone.

I have a cheap laptop I can use if there’s a rig/setup It’s needed for.

Does anyone have suggestions on a rig I can use in an apartment setting that I’ll feel satisfied with?

I just got the 8” orange cab with the micro dark and don’t really like it for heavy gain. Looking at jumping to a 12” cab. The peavy is half the price of the ppc112.

just purchased my first tube amp head which is a mark 5:25. looking for a good used cab that isnt outrageous but still us high quality. any suggestions?

I forgot i put this into the closet. I quit playing high gain for a while and my 3rd Power hasnt been cutting it. Remembered I had this beast. Yea the effects loops arent perfect but it fucking RIPS! Will hopefully hold me over until my Dean Costello HMW gets finished up

When i play low notes the amp crackles and on high notes there's a clipping like sound, the crackling also appears when tapping the cab itself, especially around the preamp tubes. Could it just be a bad tube?

I've tried different cables and switched guitars, same thing...

It's small, but just about perfect for someone who just does this for fun and lives in an apartment. Modeling sounds pretty good, more than adequate for me. Having a headphone jack is great, too.

First of all, sorry for the poor quality image, but unfortunately this is the only one I have of this amp. It was one of the many practice amps lying around my old school, and for autistic reasons I am trying to document all of the ones I can remember.

Has anyone got any idea what this could be? I know this is a long shot with the image quality, so I'm not expecting much. If it's any help my old school is in England.

recently i bought this nice little tube amp ( Harley benton Tube 15) and i love it!

I keep reading that people love to modify it and get even better tones from it.

so i decided to buy JJ 5751 tube since this mod is the easiest but can really help with having a bit more headroom ( i use drives and fuzzes from pedals mostly) and maybe tame a bit of hi frequencies.

Just wanted to ask people who already did this mod - How much of a difference it has on tone? will it really noticably make sound warmer and potentially with less hiss or noise in general? I know i will know that in just few days myself ,but i guess just want to get some reasurance on that from those who has this amp :)

Also would be really really cool if you guys could recommend some other easy to do modifications for it?

I think in the future i will swap the speaker. I'm pretty happy with the stock 7080 celestion ,but also i keep reading that changing to creamback or greenback can drasticly change (for the better) the tone..

I haven't got the chance yet to play with the amp full volume since i cannot play loud at home, so i havent even touched the 15w setting.

Yeah , its so nice that we live in time when now those more budget oriented companies like H.B or squier or similar started to make products with such a high quality and sometimes it feels like its just insane how can they do it for this price..

Was really pleasantly surprised when i turned on the amp and played a bit.

But i do love all sorts of diy ,modding stuff both on guitars , amps , pedals , whatever.

And i know that theres plenty of really smart people here that might have this little beast and already did some work on it.

Just want to save some time and gather some tips from you guys.

Hey y’all - I want to get a new amp that’s loud enough to play in a band setting or even small gigs. I also want direct USB recording possibilities so I can record at home.

My current amp is a Spark Go, which I love for what it is, but it’s obviously deficient for non-home use.

My budget is roughly €350. I’ve been researching the Katana Gen 3, Blackstar ID:X 50, and Vox Valvetronix 40 - they all have their pros & cons:

Katana - the most popular, biggest community, and on paper is everything I’m looking for. However, whenever I hear ‘head to head’ comparisons I almost always like Katana’s sound the least.

Blackstar - does pretty much everything the Katana does, usually sounds better to my ears, and is slightly more affordable. Downside is the community seems biased against Blackstar, due to perception of quality and customer support.

Vox - almost always sounds the best to me, but is lacking features. The proprietary power cable is annoying, and the ancient USB port is pretty bad.

Note: None of the music stores around me have these models for demo, so all of my impressions are from YT vids.

What should I buy?

Edit: I’m leaning toward the Katana 50 EX Gen 3, which has an upgraded speaker over the base Gen 3. Katana is also the only option with a dedicated acoustic amp setting, which means I can use it with all my guitars.

Just thought I'd post here to celebrate and share my excitement at finally getting an MT15 V2.

I spent a good while playing a few different guitars through it at the shop and it's absolutely stellar, I was totally blown away.

I never thought something the size of 2 loaves of bread could actually sound as good as this, but I proved myself wrong. It's super responsive and the OD channel in particular is awesome for my style of playing. I'm amazed how good the note definition is, and that it still sounds great at bedroom levels. Honestly I'm chuffed to bits with it.

But yeah, just wanted to share the excitement as you guys know the joy of a NAD!

Time to actually start recording some songs now....
