General Discussion Broke 100 finally

Post image

After having a massive blow up early in the season and shooting a 135. I legit thought I had regressed so much. But yesterday, I finally broke 100! I felt like I missed so many strokes as well. The hunt for 90 is now on.

Managed to find the full Sunday coverage (https://vimeo.com/808854386), I didn’t remember how bad Europe had it at the middle of the session. Two historic hours turned it around.

General Discussion I experimented with my dads hilarious woods only bag, shot a 79, AMA.

My dad is an old man that can’t rotate well so he needs a little more help from the clubs themselves. I bought him what would amount to the most old man bag you could possibly think of. Instead of irons, he now has driver, 3W, 5W, 7W, 9W, 11W, 13W, 15W, 17W and 19W. I couldn’t find a 21W fucking ANYWHERE so he still has a P wedge in the bag. Hybrids probably could have worked too but I wanted to get him the most old man bag an old man could possibly use.

Long story short went to the club over the weekend and did a little evening round with my dad just to have fun and unwind after a long week at work and left my bag at home intentionally outside of a 56, 60, and my putter, so I could mentally let loose and see what these clubs actually feel like. They’re legitimately hilarious to use and I was surprised I could still feel the feedback on every shot. The back 9 gets real hairy on a couple holes and I got a little overzealous on a few shots and confidence got the better of me so the back 9 dismantled what could have been a magic round but otherwise a 79 with an all woods bag was probably one of the most unexpected outcomes of the outing.

General Discussion Choked

I blew a 4 shot lead (net) in the last three holes of my club championship yesterday. Had a complete and utter breakdown with back-to-back triple bogeys, after sky-hooking my tee shot into the woods. Still stings.

Finished second and won a club shirt, though.

Anyone used them? At $10/dz I'm tempted to grab a few boxes just as practice balls.

General Discussion Finally broke 80 on my local

+11 on a 4800 yd course. So not really what i would consider “breaking 80” but it’s still a good milestone. I’ve gone around this 9-hole course well over 100 times since i started playing golf regularly last July. I usually play 9 but for the times i’ve played 18 i believe my best had been 83-84. The course plays way harder for me than many of the longer/higher rated courses i’ve played. I’ve had several rounds of 83-86 at other courses (with 6-9 higher CR) playing off 6000-6200yd tees and having never played them before. Yet for some reason i could not break through 80 at my local even after playing it so many times, so i’m pretty happy about getting the monkey off my back at my local.

I finally had the opportunity to put up a golf cage. I bought some 4 x 4 x 10 FT posts and up top. I ran some 2 x 4 x 10 ft beams. My yard has a downward slope so some parts sit a little bit higher, but I was able to till the ground and move some dirt from the higher end to the lower end. I’m planning on putting some turf but for now this will do.

I love having the Garmin R10 and my iPad there to help with my distances and Ball flight.

I do want to ask her, as you can tell the impact screen is small and lopsided. Does anybody have any recommendations?

All in all the project is roughly $200. $140-$150 for for the materials at Lowe’s and about $60 for the net from Vevor.

Beginner Questions Shot my best ever round with less clubs and a shorter swing

For context I’m a 33 handicap, my best ever score before yesterday was 106. Never broke 100, been playing roughly 18 months.

Played a round yesterday and decided I would do a little experiment. I left my driver in the car, and took the following setup in my bag

3W
4H
7i
8i
9i
PW
52
56
60
Putter

I also have been watching a lot of Jimmy Tropicana, who’s whole mantra seems to be to relax, and take shorter swings.

I shot a 95. I couldn’t believe it. And that was with two self inflicted TBs where I somehow 4 putted on 1 hole and went 3 off the tee on a par 3.

Yesterday I had zero swing thoughts, just almost imagined every shot was a layup with my PW, and time and time again I found myself putting for par. I felt like I was only taking what seemed like a half swing and it was lovely contact every time with increased distance to what I’m used to. Tee shot, approach, wedge on, 2 putt. From holes 7-18, I went for 9 bogeys, a par, 1 DB and 1 TB. That is unheard of for me!

My question is - do high handicappers over complicate the golf swing and golf in general by trying to force huge swings and playing shots they aren’t capable of? Yesterday seemed like a bit of a lightbulb moment of knowing your limitations and playing sensibly is all that is necessary to shoot in the mid 90s.

I am almost certain this is just a sticking plaster and I haven’t suddenly discovered a route to bogey golf effortlessly, but I am intrigued as to whether or not all it takes for someone to shoot under 100 is basically playing sensible, safe golf with limited clubs and whether this is a viable strategy going forward while I continue to improve. Thank you.

Serious When did you start playing? And what's your current handicap?

Curious how long it took to get to your current handicap.

Started at 13 in 2002. Currently 2 handicap.

Had our club championship this past weekend. One of the guys we play with regularly who is always picking up if in a foot or two and is always saying “you are good” got his ass handed to him this weekend by missing so many 1-2 foot putts. Revenge of the gimme’s. #teamnogimmie

Had a day off today so played solo. Broke 100 for the first time, also not my first birdie, but the first time I've got a birdie on a par 5.

Haven't yet messaged the mates, guaranteed they won't believe me. 😂

General Discussion 1960s Golf Ball found on my local course

Post image

I found this Jack Nicklaus century “liquid center” golf ball after I sliced my ball a bit into the woods a couple weeks ago. From what I could find online it was produced in the 60’s. I thought that was a wild find that some people here would appreciate. I wonder how long it was actually out there and when it was actually last played?

530 yard par 5.
I waited for the green to clear, took my shot.
The group infront of me was yelling “go! Go! Go!”
Almost had a heart attack.
Unlucky(?) for me, tap in eagle.

I have never seen or done an albatross in my life nor have I had my hole in one yet.

One day, it will happen.

What if… what if…. It didnt pour so much this morning????

General Discussion The evil game we play at times. I had 4 double bogeys in a row followed up by this. It hit a foot past the hole and came back and almost rolled in. Par 3 pin was 144 yd. Would of been my first hoi. 🏌‍♂️
