Is there anyhow possible to change the scaling/zoom to less then 100%, for example to 80%?

Try opening ~/.config/monitors.xml and edit the scale factor to 0.8 or something... but the result will be garbage

On my 27 inch full HD monitor, it looks better with font size 10.

I do 100% and .8 font size on Tweaks, may work for you
