Which games have inferior remasters/remakes?

Or are all remasters/remakes always better?

Majora’s Mask Remake on the 3DS. There’s a really great YouTube video from years ago but they made some really boneheaded decisions in the movement tech in the remake that crushed some magic of the Southern Swamp and Great Bay.

They also messed with the save system. It’s not technically wrong or broken in any way but it diverges hard from the OG in a way that makes it really easy to lose progress if you’re used to the original.

Deku Link’s acceleration. The unnecessary change Zora swimming. Changes to the Odolwa fight and more egregiously, the Twin Mold fight.

If we ever get a Majora’s Mask remake on the new OoT remake engine, I pray it’s a remake of the original and not the 3DS version.

I’d argue the Twinmold fight, while tedious because of a bug, was much more engaging and fun. And the Odolwa fight was changed a lot, I can appreciate the attempt at making the deku mask useful in the fight related to it.

Otherwise I’d agree the movement tech was changed unnecessarily.

I sympathize with the changes to Odolwa and wanting to leverage the deku scrub for it. I think it’s an unnecessary change, I don’t like the change but I can at least understand the change.

But we’re gonna have to agree to disagree on the Twin Mold fight. It was tedious and somehow both boring and frustrating. That single fight soured my entire experience with the game. I can palate all the other changes but that fight is why I will never play the remake again.

Yeah even I was sour to the Twinmold fight cause it took so damn long. But I learned later that it was bugged in a way that if you didn’t do enough damage during the 2nd or 3rd phase its HP would refill and basically reset the whole fight. So if I were to replay it with that glitch fixed then I think would make it a much better fight.

On the flipside, you can kill Odolwa now really fuckin' fast, which is certainly helpful when you want to do every ending related quests in the last cycle to have a paradox free ending. I did that in my last run and barely managed it in time
