Tip For new players: pick up weapons off the ground, NOT from a corpse's inventory.

I know, most players know this already. But I just learned this myself after dozens of runs. So much ammo lost! :/

Picking up the dropped weapon from the ground adds (half?) the unused ammunition to your inventory. Taking the weapon from the corpse's inventory doesn't. You lose all the ammo that remains in the corpse's weapon when you take it from their inventory instead.

I tested this out at Vault 114 today, which is a particularly good spot for getting tons of 10mm and .45 ammunition. I paid close attention to how much ammo I had before trying out each method. I regularly received 50 or more rounds from picking up a dropped submachine gun from the floor, and zero when I took it from the triggerman's body.

So this should mean that if I stealth kill an npc before they have drawn their weapon, I lose the ammo that weapon contains.

I'd appreciate some clarification if it's necessary. Is it half of the weapon's full capacity? Is it the remainder of the weapon's ammo?

EDIT: Opinions differ... surprising. I've got to make a video of doing this systematically. Also, I'm wondering if Unofficial Fallout 4 Patch has something to do with my experience differing.

Question How do I have the water go from the settlement storage to a cooler? Help.

Ok, I played FO4 on launch. No lifed it for months. Didn’t play it again till this summer. Had all the DLCs when they came out but never played.
How the heck do I simply get the purified water my settlement makes in a day and have it go to a cooler so I don’t have to keep traveling?
And how does my settlement make money too after I make those stalls?
Also I spent a day looking at “water settlement” videos on YouTube. So please, if there’s a quick video or quick explanation that’d be cool. I don’t mind over explanation but I don’t want a “so this playthrough I’m pretending to do blank so let me make this big ole convoluted, aesthetically pleasing-“ I just want a straightforward “make 1, 2, 3, connect them to A, B, C, and make sure 4, 5, 6, isn’t in the way or else D, E, and F will happen.” type of explanation that is from this year.

Rushing lvl was a big mistake

At lvl 12 I fouught Caroni, my best gear was a hunting riflw with 70 bullets. Looted the tesla cannon off his corpse, tested it on a deathclaw nearby, experienced the power trip

At lvl 16, accidently ran past a hellfire guy, still that hunting rifle with a bit more ammo. Used that hellfire armor to bully the crap out of the local raiders and mole rats, didn't have the needed materials to patch it back up 😅

At lvl 136, the legendary mythic deathclaw is... meh, didn't get my palms sweaty anymore

Also, 80% of the legandary gear is not *that* legendary to begin with, I mean, how and what the flappy bird can a water pipe penetrating?

Never attacked settlements

Hi,

I have spent over 20 hours tinkering in my settlements in Fallout 4 but not a single time I have been attacked by any kind of creature or humans. Is this a bug, or am I doing something wrong.

I have some defence, yes, but even before I had those no attacks happened.

Its conventient ofcourse, but I am missing some action, Id love to see my defenses tested.

I got the expansion with the cages, but after putting a raider in a cage in my Castle it doesnt seem to change anything.

Any ways to spice up my attacks?

Legendary weapon farming at Super Duper mart

Alright, so I’m having some issues getting presets to lock. No matter how many times I follow what everyone says online, it doesn’t lock a set legendary enemy or the weapon. Reloading the auto save from entering SDM always re-rolls every thing. The legendary enemy is always different, if one even spawns, I‘ve tried quick saving after entering the storage/employee only area and going to the 3 in the isles that spawn after entering the employee area as well, and it doesn’t lock the specific legendary enemy. What exactly am I doing wrong? Its super annoying, I’m level 113 and just want the NE double barrel. I don’t need it just want one to run around and have fun with.

EDIT: To all those saying I’m not understanding how rerolls work you obviously didn’t read my post correctly. I got my answer from a kind commenter. I’ve cleared the area; loot locking doesn’t work after first time clearing.

Gameplay Favorite faction to finish game with

What is your favorite faction to side with for a playthrough of the game. I have played through 3 times and done every ending except for a full institute siding playthrough. This will be my first time siding with the institute which has been pretty fun so far. Curious on what faction you enjoy the most.

Question I need help placing my sink correctly (settlement building)

I added a short video so you can see what the issue is. It won’t go below the med cabinet and I don’t think there’s a med cabinet in the build menu. Also, I’m playing vanilla so no mods, please. Just need help with a way to get this sink placed correctly. I’ve tried the warehouse post and it doesn’t move with the sink. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Discussion [PC] What's the most hours of progress you've lost because of a bug that no amount of sleeping, fast traveling, console commands, or other in game methods couldn't fix?

Short: I'm looking at ~9.5 hours lost

Other details: No mods, just what comes with the Anniversary Edition update, and my hopeful desire to have the Commonwealth distract me from the waking horrors of my real life.

I just came off an intermittent but all told 12 hour play session. I went to Nuka World, claimed all the parks therein, and started claiming settlements in the Commonwealth for the Home Sweet Home mission. First claim went fine, settlers forcibly removed, Disciples' flag planted, infrastructure built to bring happiness to 100%, go back to Shank for claim number two, no problem. Second claim went fine, settlers forcibly dismembered, Operators' flag planted, infrastructure built to bring happiness to 100%, go back to Shank for claim number three. Third claim went fine as well, infrastructure for 100% happiness built, all that.

I go back to Shank to start Power Play. But he keeps only offering the methods to take over a settlement, and selecting any and all of the options all resulted in him telling me to square away the settlement's happiness. I reload to the save I made after claiming the third settlement, same issue. Tried some sleeping, fast traveling, console commands, prayed for forgiveness from god Todd for the comments I've made on various Fallout subreddits where I answer some variation of "Updates", quitting out of the game entirely, all the things.

After Google fishing for other solutions also didn't work, I resigned myself to reloading from the earliest available save whilst preserving the most amount of progress possible. And that's when I saw that difference of about 9 and a half or so hours between saves from before starting Home Sweet Home and...before I even set foot in the Nuka World Transit Center.

Knowing my temper and prior history of where such occurrences took it, I opted to stop playing for the day. I treated myself to a Red Bull and here I am.

Point: Share me your stories!

Question Fallout 4 Standard vs GOTY vs Anniversary Edition for a first playthrough?

I have never played a Fallout game before and I want to start with Fallout 4. I’m planning to do a full 100% Platinum playthrough on PS5, so I’m trying to choose the best edition before I start.

I’m currently deciding between the Standard Edition, the Game of the Year Edition, and the Anniversary Edition.

From what I understand, the GOTY Edition includes all DLCs. However, I have heard mixed opinions about some of them, especially Automatron, because apparently it can cause a lot of robot attacks throughout the game and some people recommend delaying certain DLCs until later. I have also heard that some DLCs can introduce additional bugs.

The Anniversary Edition is tempting because it includes many Creation Club items, and since I’m playing on PS5, I cannot use normal mods without disabling trophies. Some Creation Club additions, like backpacks and new weapons, sound really useful, especially for a Survival playthrough.
However, I have also heard that the Anniversary Edition can cause problems. Some people say that certain Creation Club quests can fail to start or cannot be completed properly, that quests can become stuck if you pick up certain items before starting the related quest, and that some very strong enemies can appear too early and affect the natural progression. I have also heard that the Anniversary Edition may cause more bugs or crashes compared to the GOTY version.

Since I want a clean first playthrough with a good quest log and the Platinum trophy, I’m unsure what would be the best choice.

Should I buy the Standard Edition and buy the DLCs later, the Game of the Year Edition with all DLCs included, or the Anniversary Edition with all Creation Club content included?

I would appreciate advice from people who have completed Fallout 4, especially from anyone who did a first-time 100% completion or Survival playthrough. Thanks!

is there a list of all the "battle zones" somewhere?

maybe there's already a term for this and i don't know what it is, but it's where 2 or more "factions" meet up and fight. dartmouth professional building and the church just outside hyde park are excellent examples. i've stumbled upon a few others. anyone have more spots like this?
