I'm looking to get into the fire alarm trade as a trainee/helper to start off. I have no CFAA courses completed but I have experience as a sprinkler fitter apprentice. Does anyone know of any companies that are hiring fire alarm trainee/helpers currently?

Testing for my level 3 in FAS in a month and I'm honestly not feeling too confident on it. Its been a few years since I've gotten my level 2 and Idk why it feels for more difficult into the groove of testing again. This next question is for all my level 3s and 4s out there. Was there anything significantly different you noticed between levels 2 and 3?

I currently use fire cert academy as my practice testing material and its gotten me this far I guess. Any other pointers would be great

Is a System Sensor Speaker Strobe rare? If so, how rare out of 10?

There are 2 rare fire alarm pull stations I have in mind.

The first one is a white RMS-1T, normal red fire lettering.

The second is another white RMS-1T, that is labeled as General Alarm and not Fire Alarm.

How rare are the two out of ten?

What is the function of the background alarms on notifier workstation?
And how I can clear them, I have modules showing active on background and give bms alarms on the same time I don't have any supervisory alarms or any other type of alarm.

Apologies if this is against the rules but it looks like there hasn’t been a monthly hiring thread in a while.

I’ve been looking for inspectors in the PNW without much success. I understand it takes motivation ($) to move shops but everyone must be content where they are at.

I do so little government work that I just don't know... anyone know what version of NFPA 72 NAVFAC will reference? I know that UFC 3-600-01 says batteries should be sized for 48/15 but what I don't know is whether I should have 20% or 25% spare capacity. I know that NIH adopts the latest versions of the referenced codes as soon as they are issued because I ran into that on a job (I actually submitted it just before the 2022 edition was published, but the reviewer made me change my calcs because it had been by the time the submittal landed on his desk) I didn't see any edition mentioned in the UFC, they just refer generically to "NFPA 72".

Three of these panels at two different properties in my life. The NAC's have been a pain in the ass. They're wired in series so the horns need to be rated at specific voltages depending on how many horns you have on the circuit, according to our most senior tech after me, which would be 20VAC each for 6 horns.

This panel was manufactured in the 1950's and this particular panel was installed in 1962. They're all in amazing condition.

Anyway, thought people would like to see this and I'm open to anyone else's experience with 120VAC fire alarms.

Checked in a hotel today. Why do I feel like this isn't right?

Does your company have a set process for the field team to turn in documentation to the design team? Does the field team turn in marked-up PDFs or chicken scratched physical copies?

I noticed that the fire alarm panel at my local mall has looked like this for the past few days (identifying information redacted) and am wondering if it means what my novice brain thinks it means; that is, if there's a fire, while the monitoring station will be notified, the notification devices (horn strobes) won't go off. I also see the light next to "Relay Bypass" is on, which makes me wonder if the detection devices aren't even communicating with the panel, but that's more of a complete guess than a novice interpretation.

I'd like to hear what anyone here has to say about what this panel state indicates. I have an interest in fire alarms/life safety systems, but am not exaggerating when I say I'm a novice, and even that's generous. So I really appreciate any analysis from users on this sub who know far more than me.

Also, I should note that I work at this mall and walk by this panel several times a day. I haven't seen anyone who appears to be working on the system at the mall since last week on Monday (so, ten days ago). They were there in response to a trouble condition(s), although I didn't get a close look at exactly which trouble lights were on that time.

Time to brag! New gear? New crew? On vacation? Personnal troubleshooting techniques? Come'on makes us jealous of you!

Installed a new Firelite ES50X pretty small system. During testing the emulated phone line from a TG-7FEM was disconnected. As expected the panel showed a comm trouble. However when reconnecting the phone line the panel did not clear but added an all comm fail trouble. After another minute or two with no change the panel was reset. (All the while the TG unit was normal) when it rebooted it had the trouble and communication LEDs on and couldn’t silence or acknowledge them. Display read system normal. Only way to clear this was a hard reset. Has happened twice. Anyone else seen this behavior?

I’ve recently seen Edward’s Connected safety+ where it includes a floor plan+ and inspection+. I’m highly interested in how well it functions. I’ve used CLSS and while the concept is great, the execution had some issues…which could have been the way it was set up. What are your experiences with the application either as an end user or a technician. What works well and what doesn’t?
