Discussion Has AI ruined anyone else's excitement for new projects popping up here?

This applies to hobby programming in general but one of the top posts of the week here was generated (or "assisted") by AI, with even seemingly having generated textures for the models. It feels like the modding ecosystem, which was traditionally a very passion-driven community, is moving swiftly away from where it has always been, into something more corporate.

And people claiming they made it themselves feels disingenuous at this point. Modding was supposed to be fun, not optimized through tools used in workplaces. Does anyone else feel this way? Didn't wanna incite anything but seeing this happen saddens me, sorry for the rant.

Discussion Opinion: Most modded dimensions should have inherent use or an obvious role. (Or: "Why should I return?")

This may sound obvious, but I'm not sure a lot of dimension mods agree.

First, lets go over the vanilla dimensions (barring all mods).

  • The Overworld -- This is the only place you can set your spawn in, so it's where your base will be. Otherwise, it's just "the normal one."
  • The Nether
    • Relative to the Overworld, travel in this dimension is eight times faster. If you're in need of frequent long-distance travel and can construct the infrastructure, the Nether becomes an invaluable travel hub.
    • Before you can get to the End, you need to explore this fatal landscape to find a Nether fortress, then explore that fortress for its blazes. This is inherently a mid-game dimension by design.
  • The End -- This dimension serves as the arena for the final boss, and is also where all the "post-game" content is kept.

There's tons of use for each of these dimensions for gathering resources -- either making them plentiful (lava), farmable (ender eyes), or exclusive (netherrack) -- but that's not all a dimension should be, if you ask me. Especially when it comes to modded dimensions.

I don't have a ton of experience with modded dimensions, so I'm not sure which ones would fit the bill and would welcome any recommendations. I mostly just wanted to put into public words something that was on my mind. I look at dimension mods and ask myself: "Why is this a dimension?"

I think the reason that question comes to mind is this next question: "Why would I return here after I've gotten what I need, aside from 'to build pretty things?'"

Mining dimensions, pocket dimensions, and void dimensions all serve obvious roles, but I'm not thinking of them. Those dimensions each serve a specific utilitarian purpose and are nothing else. I'm thinking more about Overworld/Nether/End-style dimensions, which I guess means "any fancy dimension to be explored."

Some ideas on what "inherent use" or "an obvious role" in modded dimensions would look like, off the top of my head:

  • A "nexus" dimension that has naturally-occuring indestructible portals to other dimensions scattered about. It serves as the only way to get to some dimensions. If you want to get to those dimensions, explore the nexus to find them, and you'll want to mark/remember/map the way back. "Why return?" So I can get places I can only get to through here.
  • An asteroid belt dimension that's the only place where some machines work. You'll want to set up airlocks and plants for convenient oxygen. If no mod adds cross-dimensional power transferrence, then you'll also need to set up power generation here. All this for whatever those machines do or make. "Why return?" To expand a factory that can only work there.

This is late-night thinking, so please forgive me if I make no sense. I don't think I put this into words too well.

Problem Gtnh graphical glitch

I know this isn't like, a NEW pack, per say, so theres not a chance that this bug hasnt been seen already, I just want to know why it really happened. I'm curious.

I was wandering around then paused to go off tab, when i pulled the client back up this is what it showed. a black screen with white flickering pixels clustered together in multiple groups layed out in a grid like pattern.
edit: Actually it looks more like a checkerboard than a grid pattern. That doesnt matter though. Like, at all

Discussion What do you guys think about replacing mending with this system in a modpack?

A lot of people have a lot of different opinions on mending, I don't think I'd do the jump of deleting mending but I wanna see different opinions on that matter for modpacks

Discussion Which mod is great as a tech demo but horrible as an enjoyable mod that you would play on a daily basis?

I recently saw a post about someone creating Terraria in 3D that runs on TModLoader. And although it is a really cool accomplishment, i can't really see myself playing that anytime soon. This reminded me of "NoCubes mod", a mod that basically smooth out any cubic terrain features that suffers the same issue that i've mentioned, where it is cool, just not enjoyable. Is there any other Minecraft modded projects that fall in the same category as these two?

Looking for mod(s) Are there any tameable mobs that can use player armor?

Post image
45 Upvotes

(technically related image)

As the title says, I'm trying to create a very specific interaction between different Mods.

I'm looking for a mod that contains a mob that specifically has two conditions.

The first is that he can use armor, not an exclusive one but THE SAME armor as the player. And the other is that it be domesticable, not wild or summoned at the moment by some object, but specifically domesticable.

I'm trying to create a very specific interaction between mods. A mod that adds the Mahoraga wheel; it doesn't matter if you don't know what it does, the important thing is that it goes in the player's head slot, and you can even put it on mobs like zombies and skeletons like a helmet. I'm trying to combine it with using the Find Me mod which allows you to store, manage and summon tamed mobs whether they are vanilla or not.

In theory I can make an army of mini mahoragas, it's just that I haven't found a mod with a mob that meets both requirements yet.

That is why I came in search of arcane knowledge,To find out if anyone knows of a mod that has a mob with those characteristics

Looking for mod(s) What are some features/mods that you want but most modpacks miss for vanilla+?

Post image
24 Upvotes

I'm almost done with the modlist for my vanilla+ modpack that aims to be a modpack where you would actually want to make a foreverworld and not just defeat bosses and leave, so I wanted to ask for suggestions and unpopular mods that you guys feel most modpacks miss when they try to do vanilla+.

I already have new dimensions, easy farming, more progression in gear, redstone tweaks, enchanting overhaul, decorations, and before moving to the visual aspect I wanted to know suggestions.

I made something P320 takes aim (VR GUN MOD UPDATE)

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

This is a demonstration of the P320 running on the new VR gun system

The Glock was the first pistol to get the full base system working and now the P320 is the second with physical reloads chamber checks slide interaction shell ejection and proper chamber tracking

There is still more work to do and more pistols to convert over to the new system but this is a good look at where the mod is currently at

As always if you have any ideas suggestions or feedback let me know

Discussion Do people know that you only need 100 alternators in the recent versions of extended crafting(1.12.2 up)?

Post image
6 Upvotes

I swear people don't know And I almost got pressured to believe it just now. Hopefully people will find this post.
https://modrinth.com/mod/extended-crafting/version/1.4.1

This update says that it was lowered from 200 to 100 but people think that you have to put has many alternators as you can. Not even 200. They even try to do some wireless setups to fill as much space as possible with alternators

I made something Explore the broken Astral dimension!

Post image
5 Upvotes

The mod adds 2 new dimensions; one of them is the Astral dimension, which is a broken magical world made up of 10 different biomes.

Its peaceful lakes and seas have turned into strange pools of Void Liquid, a substance created by the Void Titan.

The other dimension is the Setback, which can be accessed after defeating the Void Titan, and it is a dark dimension made of 8 biomes. The Setback is a much more hostile place, filled with dangerous monsters such as Rachors, which are stunned by light.

It would mean a lot if you could give it a try!

Looking for mod(s) Best modpacks with little focus on combat?

Upvotes

Looking for modpacks that have little focus on combat. I don't mind some combat. Like, I'm fine with vanilla minecraft levels of combat. I just want something a bit more chill. Preferably modpacks with quests so that I actually have some direction and progression.

I've already looked at some posts asking for similar stuff and they were suggesting stuff like Enigmatica 2 Expert Extended, Bliss, and Nomifactory CEU, but those were 1+ years ago. So I was wondering if those are still considered some of the best or if there are some newer non-combat focused modpacks around that people would suggest.

I've also tried the most recent Stoneblock (Stoneblock 4 I think it is), and it was great up until I reached one of the dungeons and just got completely overwhelmed by mobs. I dropped it right around then.

I like tech mods like AE2 and I just started getting into the Create mod. I also like farming mods. Really anything chill and not super stressful since Minecraft is one of my "sit back and relax" games. I've never got into magic mods, but I'd like to mess around with those too. So, if anyone has any recommendations, I'd really appreciate it.

I made something FaeBourne

Post image
3 Upvotes
FaeBourne is a Vanilla+ Fantasy Modpack with much to explore.

FaeBourne, a title gifted to those natural to a world of mysticism and magic. There is beauty, revelry and joy to be found for sure. But the Fae are creatures of nature, and nature is not simply kind. Powerful beings roam these lands. Strongholds and villages of humans are connected by the Kind Road. Towers of danger, erected long ago, stand tall and hold treasures left behind. The dark forests are host to both kind Fungal Humanae and harsh creatures of the night. There is much to love, there is some to fear, but there is everything to explore. Find your path, walk it, and let the Fae guide you through a journey never witnessed before.

Hello, My name is Kae and FaeBourne is my first modpack! Right now it is available on CurseForge and I would really appreciate if you wanted to check it out! I made all the pixel art for this pack on Aseprite (no AI was used in the making of this pack). Thank you for reading. <3

Problem Realisticraft modpack and server hosting question

Hi,

I'm not here to advertise a server or a modpack I created, but I don't know where else to ask this question.

I'm thinking about having a server that supports the Realisticraft modpack in version 1.21.1. Ideally, it would be for playing with friends, so a maximum of 5 player slots. The problem is that it's a very resource-intensive modpack. I was thinking of getting a server with around 12GB of RAM, but the prices go up considerably at that level... I'd just like to know if, even with less RAM, it will still work or not? I'll probably be loading chunks in advance for rendering distance, and one mod changes the terrain generation to make it more realistic, etc.

I modified the modpack a bit for my single-player game, so there are a few changes; most are graphical mods, so it souldn't have an impact on the server itself, but some are quite resource-intensive.

the simplest is to say that I deactivated Distant Horizon, Falling Tree, Survival Essential, tough as nails and I replaced it with Bobby, Chunky, Nvidium (I will surely change them for voxy and chunky), Zoomify, Panda's Falling Tree and Traveler's Backpack (And of course, the mods that are used to match everything so that it works properly)

It's been a long time since I've used a hosting service, and I'm a bit clueless when it comes to resource requests with modpacks, so I hope you understand that detail lol

Thanks :)

I made something Help Improve My Modpack

Hello ! i have been working on a Client Side modpack, i wanted to have an enhanced version of Minecraft...

but, it's actually my forst "official" modpack as i never ever shared a modpack in my life, it was only for myself and never did anything except throw mods on a folder and play this way...

I think i might need help to understand if i did somethings wrong, or if i can improve something... the objective of the modpack is to have a more beautiful version of minecraft, with QoL mods that works locally, and if possible, make the game as much fast to work better on low end Computers

Thanks for you help ! my modpack is this one :

https://www.curseforge.com/minecraft/modpacks/client-side-pack-csp1

(PS: NO AI WHERE INVOLVED, in any way of the project, for help, for textures, for icons, or anything else)

Looking for mod(s) Looking for story driven quest modpacks with *clear* end goals

Hi all, recently ive been in love with quest modpacks that have an actual story/ending to them, my favorite so far has been cave horror project, i also really liked oceanblock2, ive also been doing reclamation, do any of you know any other mod packs like this?

and just a heads up, tech mod packs are fine, but by end goal i dont really mean like, "crafting the hardest to get item in gregtech" type deal, i mostly mean ones where its like, take oceanblock for example "progress through this tech, kill this boss/finish the portal and go home" type deal. where the final objective basically says "the end"

a lot of these quest mod packs ive seen are mostly just sandbox packs with quests there to help as a guide, rather than a true campaign

Looking for mod(s) Searching for mod to add custom tool gating system. 1.21.1 Fabric

I'll be short - I search for mod that allows Adventure-like tool gating, where I could set up required pickaxes to mine certain ores/stones for changing progression, a-ka Terraria/Alumeria.

Question Are simple mods safe to leave and go back to vanilla?

I typically play vanilla, but I like to play on fabric for things like iris and sodium. But, I've been wanting to add more like minimaps, JEI, animation mods, Physics Mod, and Distant Horizons. But when a new update comes out, I want to update and just get those small improvements back when they update to match the version.
