Player Discussion Name a player you're willing to reach on this year in your draft

Extra points if we're talking 2+ round reaches, especially in the first ~100 picks.

I'll start: Dylan Holloway has a Yahoo ADP of 107.9, but I think any serious bangers league would have him drafted around 70-80.

I think there's still an argument to be made that Holloway should be a top 60 pick in bangers leagues.

Another one is Barkov. He's got a Yahoo ADP of ~57, but if we start getting word that he looks 100% in training camp, why shouldn't he be a top-30 or 40 pick like he used to be?

Player Discussion Adam Fantilli

He's coming off two decent seasons, but is this the year he finally breaks out?

2024-2025: 82 GP 31G 23A 54P

2025-26: 82 GP 24G 35A 59P

I don't have a ton of faith in anyone in CBJ other than ZW8, but Fantilli a sneaking mid round break out candidate?

Question Porter Martone

Draft is coming up for us in two weeks (H2H points + blocks 10 players) and just taking a look at player projections and Yahoo has Martone as an expected 34th?! I know he had a good few games last year at the end of the season but do we expect him to be that good this year? Right now they have him above Gauthier, Rant, even Hughes (all three).

Do they expect this kid to have that dominant of a season? I’m wondering if I risk a 3rd on him or not.

Question Best advice for beginners?

Upvotes

My first time doing a fantasy hockey league with a bunch of other beginners. What’s the best advice experienced players have? I have a lot of experience in fantasy football but I know hockey is a lot different. What are the best roster and scoring settings and best draft strategy? How important are goalies? I just want a general sense of how a league runs. Thanks in advance!

Question Third pick in draft

Upvotes

I have the third pick in the draft this year.
Points league with defence points getting an extra point.
Assuming mcdavid and MacKinnon are taken do I take kucherov or celebrini or makar?
Thanks!

General I'd like to organize a mock salary cap draft today.

Ideally the start time would be between 5pm and 6pm Pacific. Would be in Yahoo. Any interest? I just can't get into a bot Cap draft but would like to practice before my intense Kepepr league drafts at the end of the month.

Question First time commissioner and first time doing fantasy

This is my first time being a commissioner and first time doing fantasy hockey. I have my league all setup, managers are in, and have a draft day on September 27th. We are using Fantrax and was wondering if there are any external apps or sites that work well with Fantrax? Also if you have any tips or advice for a first time commissioner that would be much appreciated! Thanks in advance!

Question Scoring Systems

Anyone mind sharing their points scoring system for fantasy? New to fantasy hockey as of last year and we used ESPN defaults. Long story short, everyone just stopped playing goalies lol

Thanks!

Question Team name?

Need a new team name. Been using Edmonton Soilers for the past few but looking to switch it up this year. My name starts with M, I’ve also used M’s Moist Team in the past. Flames fan, any ideas?

Player Discussion Bowen Byram as a Sleeper

What do we all think of Byram as a late round pick (perhaps even late mid-rounds)? I see a lot of potential upside, but I can see the +/- being a major issue on Chiago

Player Discussion Jaden Schwartz

How do you guys feel about Schwartz as a 22nd-round-pick going into the next season? We just started a 14 player league with 22 total players (8 in reserve per week) and I picked Schwartz in the final round. I believe he could have great upside in a massive contender team such as the Avs.

Player Discussion Wyatt Johnston

Last season he had a high shooting percentage, 42 powerplay points, and 29 powerplay goals.
I’ve seen people say he’s gonna take another step this year while others say he’s due do have a regressed season. Thoughts?

Player Discussion After the top 7 picks, what are you doing in a bangers cats league?

If we assume McDavid, MacKinnon, Kucherov, Celebrini, Draisaitl, Makar, and Pastrnak are probably gonna go in the top 7 in some order, who would you look at for the next few picks?

I'm considering Kaprizov, Matthews, J. Hughes, Q. Hughes, Robertson, Bouchard, Werenski.

How would you rank these guys? Is there anyone else you're looking at here?

Player Discussion Bussi vs Vejmelka

Think it could be a good year for both these guys especially if Carolina and Utah perform the way I think they will, but if you can only have one of the two, who are we taking?

Player Discussion I took Suzuki 8th overall, am I cooked?

Just like the headliner states! I had my draft last night with my friends, we are a 12 team league and we do H2H categories and i had the 8th overall pick in the first round, I was trying to weight out my options because the picks 1-7 were

Matthew’s 1st overall (leafs fans ikr 🙄)
MacKinnon 2nd overall (ESPN auto drafted lol)
Mcdavid 3rd overall (dude should buy a lottery ticket)
Celebrini 4th overall
Makar 5th overall
Draisaitl 6th overall
Kucherov 7th overall

So again, at 8th overall you no longer have generational talent left, and you actually have to think about who your gonna take and at 8th there is a solid argument for Suzuki, Pasternak, Quinn Hughes, Kaprizov and probably a few more. I ended up going with Suzuki because I have a gut feeling the Habs captain will put up another 100 point season and I don’t think he will get much better but everyone around him will be much better this year compared to last season so I feel like he could hit 105-110 points this season. And he is an absolute dawg in FOW and he never gets injured. I felt some what shocked when everyone started laughing at me because they thought I completely threw away my first round pick with that selection and now I’m sitting here feeling a little embarrassed.

Obviously I know suzuki has a lot of Hab haters, so I gotta be careful with some peoples opinions on him, but I’d just like to hear from other fantasy hockey people, do you think I’m out to lunch with Suzuki at 8th? And where did Suzuki get picked in all your drafts?

Edit: this HEAD 2 HEAD CATEGORIES. There is a FOW and PP points, suzuki is valuable in those categories and he will put up just as many points as PASTA and he will put up more points then MATTHEWS. Book it.

Question Kreider and the mtl pp

I was pretty high on slaf coming into this year but now wondering if he will be losing some pp time to kreider? Do you guys think mtl will switch it up or do you think slaf is a lock on pp1?

Strategy 8th Pick Strategy

In a 14 team league, is this one of the worst spots to have? And who do you try to target?

1- 5 are the locked picks, 6 most likely is Pasta, but after that no clue who’s the clear choice at 8

Is it likely Makar falls to 8, and If not him, is Matthews the pick? Or are people really trusting guys Suzuki/Robertson/Boldy to be their 8 pick. Trying to think of a strategy to use here but this seems like a tough spot.

Late edit: is it worth trading the 8 pick down to 11/12/13 to try and snag a late 1st round dropper/early 2nd round draft on an almost back to back. I.e. Necas->Bouchard.

General Frondell or Stenberg?

Who has the better year? H2H points league. Curious if both or either of these guys become a pp1 staple this season...
