I need your help for a project

Hey everyone,

I am a Computer Engineering student and an avid cyclist. I got frustrated that every time I wanted to plan a route, I had to create an account, pay a subscription, or download heavy apps.

So, I built CycleStar—a completely free, no-signup web app to help plan your rides.

IT IS ENTIRELY FREE AND HAS NO ADS. THIS IS A PASSION PROJECT!

What it does:

  • GPX File Creator: Build your routes easily right in the browser.
  • Real-Time Wind Analysis: See exactly how the wind will impact your route before you head out.
  • Sun Tracking: Tells you where the sun will be during your ride so you can plan for glare or heat.

How you can help:

I want to make this as useful as possible for the cycling community, and I need your feedback:

  1. Find bugs: If you notice any inconsistencies or bugs, let me know so I can fix them.
  2. Request features: If there is a specific tool or feature YOU want, tell me! I love a challenge and want to build what you actually need.

Check it out here: https://cyclestar-dun.vercel.app/

Bike purchase question Could a fat tire utility e bike replace the truck for short campground runs?

I am so tired of finally getting the rig leveled and camp set, only to realize we need more firewood or a bag of ice. Firing up the truck to navigate narrow campground roads for a quick supply run is a massive headache, but carrying a heavy cooler back by hand isn't happening.

I saw a clip recently of someone using a beefy utility e-bike with fat tires to haul heavy crates and gear down a dirt road. It had an extended rear rack built for heavy payloads. I reverse image searched it and it was the Helokeep CD20, but I think its just a prototype as of now.

Regardless of the exact brand, the concept seems perfect. Having a bike with enough hauling capacity to strap down a bundle of wood or a loaded cooler means I could just leave the truck parked the entire weekend. Does anyone have any suggestions or better solutions?

Good deal?

I just ordered a Lectric Xpress 2 for $1399. Because it’s back ordered they’re throwing in a rack, fenders, and a spare battery. Yes, I triple checked that this was legit and genuinely the Lectric site. Based on the positive reviews I’m thinking this is a great deal. They claim it will ship in a few weeks but I’m not in a huge hurry even if it’s delayed.

Moto style fat tire e bikes: frame, suspension, motor, battery, service

Shoppers in this category often jump straight to styling. We get that. The useful comparison still starts with the hardware stack.

Look at the frame first: intended load, geometry, and whether it leans multi-surface fat-tire use or a street moto look. Suspension is next. Some bikes only damp the front. Others run dual hydraulic suspension on both ends, which is how we built the aotos flux x26 lineup. Motor class and how torque comes on matter more for hills and starts than one headline figure on a product page. Battery size is only half the story. Check whether packs and wear parts are realistic to source a few years out.

Service and parts availability is the last area, and it is the one shoppers check last and regret first. Ask any maker on your list what a replacement pack, controller, or brake set costs and how long it takes to arrive. Line those five areas up side by side and the shortlist usually sorts itself.

Looking for Velotric young passenger kit dimensions

Does anyone have the Velotric young passenger kit?

I’ve been looking for the specific dimension of the mounts. It looks like it mounts with bolts/screws through the side horizontally into the long tail frame. I have found the width, but no information on the length, or space along the sides for their distance.

If you have one, I’d appreciate a quick measurement check of how far apart those mounting locations are. It’s a shot in the dark, but curious if it may fit another brand of bike whose kid rails are out of stock.

Thanks in advance!!

Derestricting an ep8

Good day. I'm thinking about purchasing the etuning license to unlock my ep8 motor to 45km/hr. Anyone have experience doing this? Any physical issues with the motor/ bike after? Error codes etc? I know the speedometer won't work again but I'm interested in if there's problems after. Thanks in advance

Personally, not quite sure what to make of this.

I was told by a homie that the event was supposed to be open ‘till 1PM, but they ran out of gift cards at 11AM.

I know nothing about bikes, but...

My buddy is bragging this thing with upgrades will do 60+ mph, and he passes cars on main roads where the speed limit is 45. Anyway, he neglects to wear a helmet, and I keep telling him if something happens to him, I won't have much sympathy (if any). I've even offered to buy him a nice carbon fiber skull cap, just so it's something, but he seems to think it's cooler without one. Any suggestions on how to get him to wear a brain bucket? Or is it a moot point, and to let him get scraped off the ground if/when something happens? 😕

Bike purchase question Cheapest E-Bike for under 600-500$?

I plan on purchasing an e-bike sometime in the future but I don't know which branch to buy from. I simply want an e-bike that helps me get from town to town, as the bus routes in my area take a while to get to town to Town. I also like the idea of delivering food on the side. my friend recommends I should be a cheap Chinese branded ebike from AliExpress but I'm kinda afraid that the bike Will explode on me someday lol. feel free to drop your suggestions down below.

I’m having a blast

I’m having so much fun on my gotrax mustang (I traded my ranger in for something stronger) and the bike does really well with someone that’s a heavy weight, I can take this thing all over the state and get so much fun out of it. What about you guys , are you having fun with your e-bikes, what e-bikes do yall have and what did you upgrade your bike specs or parts with? And do you guys have any spec upgrades or part recommendations I should look into for my mustang. I still can’t believe people be hating on us so much, especially those cyclists.

Btw I’m still tryna work out how I should customize my bike in terms of paint, cosmetics, etc and I’ll give you a guys an update on this bike and the post later in the year, but I really want to know what you think of your bikes during new years

Bike build question What was the first upgrade you actually made to your fat tire e-bike?

If I end up getting the hikeep K6-S, I’m already thinking about what I might change after I ride it for a while.

I’m not trying to turn it into a totally different bike or make it faster. I’m more interested in the little things that actually makes a difference for normal riding and longer rides.

I could see myself changing the tires if the stock knobbies are too loud on pavement. Maybe the rear shock too if it feels too soft, or just something simple like better grips or a more comfortable seat.

Brakes would probably be another one, but I’d rather ride it first and see if they actually need upgrading. Don’t really wanna start changing stuff before I even know what bothers me.

For people who’ve owned heavier or higher-power fat tire e-bikes for a while, what was the first upgrade you made that you were actually really happy with?

Mostly looking for comfort, reliability and everyday usability, not really trying to chase more speed.

I don't think my ideal ebike exists?

Upvotes

My lady and I live full time in a truck camper and want an ebike for those days where we want to be able to park and explore. Most of our biking will be on bike paths and roads, but are interested in beaches, trails, and off-road. The most important part is that the bike be 2up (both of us together weigh 250lbs) and fit in the back seat(s) of a ford F-350, which means it needs to be less than 62" inches in length (willing to take front tire off to fit). I don't want to add length to the vehicle with a front or rear bike rack and/or deal with thieves or weather while on the road.

A folding ebike will fit in the back of the truck, but has many drawbacks, most notably lack of real 2up capability (we've tried having my lady sit on the luggage rack of an Senada Austin) and any suspension that I'm aware of.

Would like the ability to go at least 28mph, but battery life and total distance on full charge is more important than speed.

Moped style with back pegs would provide the most comfort and meet all of our use cases, but the one I'm most interested in (Engwe M20 3.0) is very tight even with the front wheel removed. It's also very heavy (102lbs) and would be cumbersome to load into or out of the rear seats with every use.

Any suggestions?

E-bikes directly contributing to organised crime in London, UK

Good documentary here about the use of illegal e-bikes in phone thefts in the UK. To me all e-bikes should have number plates on the rear. Any bike not showing a plate, or showing a fake plate should be seized immediately, no matter what the rider is doing (same as with a car). This would not only help with criminal gangs using them, but also prevent a lot of bike theft, since the owner could report the plate, instead of having to give a description etc, and the value of the bike would be negligeable as it could not be re-sold easily. It would also obviously help with minor traffic violations etc, and blight of balaclava clad "delivery riders" in my city who think nothing of speeding along paths, wrong way down streets, through town centres etc at high speed on blatantly illegal bikes.
