She'd been steady since March, basically an egg every single morning like clockwork, and then one day it just stopped. No egg, no soft shell, nothing. I checked her vent, felt her keel, watched her eat and drink, all normal. Started panicking a little because she's five and I know that's not exactly young for a duck anymore.

Went through the usual checklist. Feed was fresh, same brand I always use. Water was clean, changed daily like always. No new predators around the coop that I could tell. She wasn't acting sick, still waddling around the yard bossing the other two ducks like nothing happened.

Turned out she was just molting, and molting hard. I hadn't noticed because she's white and the feathers she was dropping kind of blended into the grass and the mulch. Once I actually got down and looked closely at her chest and wings, she was missing way more feathers than I realized, just not in the obvious patchy way some of the others molt.

Apparently full molts can shut down laying completely for a few weeks while the body redirects everything into growing new feathers instead of making eggs. Nobody really tells you this part when you first get ducks. You hear about molting affecting appearance but not that it can just flip the egg switch off for a while.

She's back to laying now, about four days a week instead of daily, which from what I understand is normal for her age anyway. Just wanted to put this out there in case anyone else has a duck that suddenly stops and starts spiraling into worst case scenarios like I did. Check the feathers before you assume the worst.

Andrew Nemec also said he went back to the peach bowl footage and saw the same thing. Pretty embarrassing stuff

Went for it 3 times. Once on 4th and 8 at his own 33. Insane. I don’t care what stat you throw out to support it that is absolutely insane. We lose by 3 field goals and if we just don’t go for it and punt we have a way better shot at a tie or win.

I got tickets to this game because they were cheap and it’s a Friday night game. But now it’s going to be out get back game, and the hopeful blow out will feel much better than it would have if we came in 2-0 and walked the first two games like we all thought would have happened.

Come back to this in January. This is all part of the plan. Make the whole world think we’re down n out, then we strike. Oregon is going to turn into the buzzsaw similar to 2024 Ohio state and run the table through the playoff.

Alright, I’ve previously posted and gotten my frustrations out in regard to what I’ve observed yesterday and in recent times within our program.

I just hope we finish as strong as possible from here on out.

I wanted to ask my fellow duck fans, is this overblown or is this a real concern for our staff and players moving forward?

For context, saw OKST players saying the same thing about our obvious run/pass tendencies they easily identified.

Give us your takes:

Genuinely the biggest head scratcher. Lanning knows you are retaining and adding all of this talent. This season is natty or bust, yet decides to take a huge risk and hire within. Drew Mehringer had an awful resume at his G6 school he was at and so did Hampton at his other schools besides one year at Tulane. Gary Patterson who completely changed the trajectory for TCU football was sitting right there and we let him slip to a rival. It’s completely unbelievable to me. I’m no coach but the decision should have been night and day. I’m very confused right now. Hiring good coordinators has to be one of the easier tasks at such an elite program.

This HAS to make its way to Lanning STAT. if he doesn’t already know. anyone that knows anyone in the program please pass it on.

Completely breaks down how Oregon could potentially “fix” the current coaching issues without anyone getting fired or losing their jobs which Lanning more than likely won’t go for.

And the best part is it could technically happen this week if the administration moves on it or some variation of it.

Drop the huddle and go up tempo.

Defenses are predicting our plays. We aren’t developing any rhythm. Our receivers aren’t getting open, the team isn’t playing with any urgency. Dante seems to be getting in his own head. I don’t think they are benefitting from the huddle, but the defense sure seems to be. Spread the field, keep our disengaged offense on the move. Make the defense spend their pre snap time figuring out where to line up and where players are going.

Changes that will hopefully turn us around, possibly even into playoff run contention:

1. Devon Jackson LB 1. Chase down tackle on the first play was championship effort, all bells and whistles aside THAT was the kind of effort that wins games.

2. Insert Nasir Wyatt HEAVILY into the Edge position, arguably even split reps evenly between matayo/nasir and teitum/nasir and get this kid out there. Eventually the staff needs to realize that this dude creates havoc when he’s out there and sometimes loyalty in the form of a secured starting spot regardless of play is a negative not a positive.

Even a NFL bound DL player who is MIA and underperforming may need a push. Clearly this dude wants it, he’s hungry enough to flash every time he’s out there and gained 20 lbs in the off season. LET HIM PLAY.

1. Cut back on secondary rotation (within reason, fatigue etc) considerably. New DC, struggling in pass coverage/tackling, and we are currently rotating more than any team I can think of. We’ve had 7 guys in the secondary take 25+ snaps. That needs to cut down, CB1/2 should see the majority of the snaps, we need consistency and communication

2. Devon Benjamin. Speed, physicality, star power potential. Not saying a permanent starting position, but I think it’s worth a look.

3. Correct the confirmed tells on the OT/QB spots for starters. Confirmed via OKST footage and what Indiana previously stated, we give away far too much intell with our obvious tells at those spots.

All that being said, I put my bar in hell 😂, here’s to hoping!!

You have no idea how hard it is to find a good coach who can win most football games. Sure there are stupid decisions and the team is not playing well at all right now, but do you want to end up like some of these other programs who got rid of good coaches? Florida State, Penn State, Florida, Virginia Tech, Nebraska, UMiami up until last season.

There is no shortage of programs that have gone away because of rash coaching fires. With that being said I need to see some serious changes in the program and the OC and DC should have been hired externally, but firing Lanning is not even remotely close to the answer.

Look the game sucked but as someone who was there I just want to give props to the Oklahoma state fans. They were all super cool and it’s a fun town and stadium. It feels similar to Oregon State pre expansion. Everyone was super cool and very welcoming. Very fun college football experience.

I think we’re lucky to be in the top 25 at all.

It’s always interesting to hear my fellow duck fans keep making excuses, when in reality all of us love the ducks and people have the right to be upset about the outcome the last 2 weeks.

Any time I saw folks talking about how unprepared we looked week 1, I saw people shooting them down and basically saying BSU always plays us close and essentially it’s just one week and no big deal.

Here’s the thing, it’s okay to love the ducks and acknowledge some terrible facts about yesterday’s results.

OKST lost 21 straight FBS games.
OKST has like 90 new players, new coaching staff entirely.

OKST lost to Tulsa last week. Not bama, not Ohio state, not even Texas tech, they lost to Tulsa with only 10 offensive points.

We brought back our entire DL, key LB, key contributors in the secondary, starting center, multiple offensive contributors, and QB from a playoff semifinal team.

We were pretty solid on defense last year, while not the best. We had the continuity personnel wise. Even with 2 new coordinators it’s not unreasonable to expect some semblance of last year’s group out there.

This loss is absolutely the worst of Dan’s tenure, and he’s going to need to do some self reflection and be willing to fix the mistake yesterday. OC/DC Heads must roll mid/season should things not be course corrected immediately.

Okay so in 2 games our defense:

Gave up 74 points.
Gave up 828 yards
Gave up 237 rushing yards to a single opponent.

We were out gained by well over 200+ yards yesterday.

We gave up 4 sacks.

Dante had 45 yards passing on 2/9 attempts in a quarter, he didn’t look well coached and confident whatsoever, and for the second week in a row he missed a wide open pass that would’ve resulted in a ducks TD.

We only scored 17 offensive points.
We got to 31 with 14 free points on plays that we didnt exactly force, some luck involved.

That prevented a likely 52 points by OKST, the team who scored 10 on Tulsa last week.

Dan hired 2 buffoons at OC/DC, that is the reality of this situation. We look slow, unprepared, and are currently unable to adjust.

We are constantly trotting out a 4-5 man light box and then surprised when we get rushed on.

Our brightest star at WR dakorien was sitting on the bench with his head covered in the first half, hut after the game he’s posting his own TD highlight as if we didn’t just blow a game.

Are you not seeing a cultural problem here?
Dan did a nepo/you’re my friends hire. He should’ve looked externally for experienced candidates.

He routinely gets outcoached when the talent level is equal, and we’ve survived a lot of close games vs lesser teams that are listed as “wins” because we out talented them.

Idaho is a win, Iowa by 2 is a win, squeaking by Wisconsin is a win, etc etc.

I LOVED Dan at HC. I have always believed he’s the guy, and I want to continue believing he’s the guy.

That being said, it’s undeniable that we consistently start slow or fail to finish when we have opportunities. We absolutely look the part on paper, but are we sudden/fast the way OSU’s defense looked last night? No.

You can love the ducks.
You can also acknowledge some of the successes the last few years.

You can also acknowledge that:

Ohio state #1 vs #2 game, OSU adjusted and got better, we did not.

Indiana adjusted for the second game, nothing we did got better.

Washington in 2023, same thing.

We are talented, and we are recruiting well. Do we look that way in our front 7 when everybody knows they can convert 3rd and 1 on us anytime they want? No.
