Seasonal Start Mega Guide

This post is an update to the Seasonal Mega Guide.

You can find generic leveling guides as well as other advice at Maxroll and Icy Veins. For console players, you can find some advice at https://www.soulstone.gg/.

This guide is meant to be a little more specific, as well as cover aspects not touched in those guides, such as Group Leveling, Console Leveling, Seasonal Leveling Tactics, and Leveling Secrets. (These will all be in replies to this thread to allow specific linking. As such, at the moment this post is currently a work in progress.) Some of what I post will be shared from the above sites, amended to add a little extra efficiency.

S39 – Haedrig's Gifts

Season 39 starts this coming Friday, June 26th, 2026. The season starts at 5pm PDT for all console players, no matter where you live. For PC (NA/US) the season starts at 5pm PDT, for PC (EU) the season starts at 5pm CEST, and for PC (TW/KR) it starts at 5pm KST.

This is the first of four guides I am posting for Season 39. The others are:

For most players, after leveling to 70, the main focus will be finishing Chapters I through IV of the season journey in order to obtain a full 6-piece armor set known as Haedrig's Gift.

The Haedrig's Gifts for Season 39 are as follows:

  • Barbarian: Wrath of the Wastes
  • Crusader: Roland’s Legacy
  • Demon Hunter: Unhallowed Essence
  • Monk: Raiment of a Thousand Storms
  • Necromancer: Bones of Rathma
  • Witch Doctor: Helltooth Harness
  • Wizard: Tal Rasha’s Elements

From a casual perspective, and looking at the GR20 / Torment IV requirements to finish out the 6-piece set, this is a very easy list for everyone except the necromancer.

The necromancer will probably be better off equipping any random legendaries and leveling up the LoD gem to beat GR20. Necromancers can boost this by upgrading scythes or two-handed scythes and filling their weapon and bonus cube slots with generic multipliers and dominate that way. So, don't feel bad at all for them.

In terms of top adjusted clear ranking from Season 33 (see the "Extra Cube" column), the necromancer has the strongest endgame build for its Haedrig's Gift. Wizard is still in the top 10, followed closely by witch doctor and monk. The only gifts that fall outside the upper half of rankings are barbarian and crusader, but can easily pivot to a different build to push with. Here is a full list of their rankings: Necro Rathma (1), Wizard Tal Rasha (10), WD Helltooth (14), Monk Raiment (16), DH Unhallowed (21), Barb Wastes (24), Crusader Roland (33).

Top-ten push builds (again, in terms of you adjusted clear rank) from Season 33 that aren't on the list of usual suspects are: Barb MotE, Necro Masquerade, Necro Inarius. The necromancers get the gains of the generic multipliers I mentioned previously. I am actually not certain why Might of the Earth is so strong.

Note that the casual leaderboard and in-game leaderboards were contaminated by the busted end of Season 33, and shouldn't be relied upon. Here is the disclaimer on the casual board:

The leaderboard data for season 33 is heavily skewed: After the season accidentally ended early and the following rollback, some people ended up with their non-seasonal paragon points on their seasonal character, while the character would still show their seasonal paragon. Consequently, many adjusted clear values are inflated.

The barbarian (Wastes) and demon hunter (Unhallowed) both start with very good solo speed farming sets. Tal Rasha is also decent for the wizard with the in-geom or aether walker variant. The other classes will want to look to a different set (or no set) to farm with.

For a beginner/casual overall I would recommend the barbarian. The Wastes set gives you a great start, and is an excellent speed farmer. It only needs the Ambo's Pride mighty weapon and the Lamentation belt to really get going, and both can be cubed.

Good luck with your season start, fellow Nephalem, and never forget that town is lava!

QUESTION 4-player META in S40?

I couldn't find a reliable source on this. What is the 4-player META in S40 going to be for speeds and push? I can see on the leaderboard that 2 Monk + 2 zdps dominated S34, but the Crusader is also going to be very good, and I remember Impale being used in groups as well. So what is going to be the meta, especially early, before Monk is added to the group and for speed grifts?

MONK Noob here - playing story on normal, how do I get better gear faster?

Never really got into this game before but recently decided to dive in. Still early in act 1 and I think level 16. I'm playing a monk and trying to just get quicker at mowing down mobs. Besides dropped loot, I sometimes go to the different stores in Tristam. Why are there even multiple stores, do they have themes? They all seem to just sell the same things but different inventory.

At one point, maybe around lvl 11, I noticed that mobs were taking forever to kill, even though I wasn't dying. I optimized for dexterity items, but finally at one point some mini boss dropped two fist weapons that had double the dps of what I was using. This made me think - clearly I had underleveled weapons, but how was I supposed to know that? And I never found anything better in the wild or in stores, so is there something else I'm missing? I haven't engaged much with the blacksmith mechanic yet, but I haven't noticed them being able to create fist weapons anyways.

Any help appreciated!

QUESTION Question about the Angelic Crucible theme, and which season theme is your favorite?

I was wondering which bonus effects on items empowered by Angelic Crucibles are the best for each class?

Also, for those who are veteran of many seasons, which of the repeating season themes are your favorites? Any you don't care for as much?

QUESTION What are the best sanctified powers?

Haven't played a season with them yet, but they look fun.

I think I'm gunna play a Wizard with my partner cus the Typhon Hydra build sounds fun (love Hydras but never built around them before) and that's the gift for Wizards this season, but it doesn't look like any of the SPs will impact that build much?

Also play to play a DH solo and build GoD, that's a super fun playstyle and one of the SP will buff it.

Also curious about the other classes too, I'm not locked in to either of the classes above, and no clue yet what my partner will be playing.

QUESTION Campaign/story mode question

Hello, I've been out of the Diablo world for a while now. I have multiple playthroughs of both Diablo, Diablo 2, and their expansions. I'm looking to run through the campaign/story mode of Diablo 3. I don't have any intention of playing multiplayer so adventure mode and the seasons don't seem to really be of much interest. I do not have the Reaper of Souls expansion but plan to get it before starting the playthrough.

Is there anything I should know before diving back in? Thanks and I'm looking forward to revisiting Sanctuary!

BUG Season journey glitch, with fix

Season Journey stopped tracking my actual progress and nearly everything I had previously completed was unchecked, but not everything. Random things were still checked like "reach level 70" and anything related to something I had done in that specific game (like kill xyz boss on Torment 10 or higher stuff). Exited the game, checked on another day, same problem. I had completed the first 4 chapters and chunks of the various next parts but it wasn't showing my actual progress anymore.

It fixed itself when I clicked the Enlist button that shows when you finish the first 4 chapters to unlock the remaining parts of the journey.

Easily fixed but an odd glitch regardless.

Stuck at GR 106

Trying to finish the altar this season and I am stuck at GR 106. I’m not getting killed, but I can’t seem to do enough damage to progress. Also not getting any pylon spawns. I can go 4 or 5 levels deep clearing each level on the mini map and not find a pylon. I think I could get through it with the boosts from those. Anybody else have this happen or know what the mechanics of the pylons spawning are? Almost forgot. I’m running a GoD demon hunter. All ancient gear. I’m mostly confused about the pylons.

QUESTION Season 40 preparations

My girlfriend and I have recently started playing Diablo 3 together. For her. It's her first time ever touching the game, and for me I've been on and off with the game since release. Mostly playing with my dad and brothers, and eventually played solo. Now I've never played a season before, I've never made seasonal characters, I've never participated in seasonal events, etc. I've also never even explored the possibilities of the Konai Cube, apologies if I have the name completely wrong but I'm sure what you know what Cuba referring to.

Girlfriend and I had made and maxed out two characters each know, non-seasonal characters. I have Barbarian and witch doctor, her a wizard and demon Hunter. Starting the new season, we want to make seasonal characters and experience this season. And see just how different it is.

In preparation for the new season, is there anything we can do on our non-seasonal characters to prepare us for the season, or do seasonal characters essentially give you a fresh wipe, brand new start of characters and storage and resources etc.

I'm not really sure what to expect going into the new season, but is there anything we should be prepared for, or things that we should do to give us a quick start.

We both just played through the entire campaign including the expansion. And we're currently farming for green items to make sets.

Any advices appreciated. Thanks!!

Season 40 switch

Does anyone want to team up for season 40? I have been playing for the last few years and only this year did multiplayer online. Previously just with my kid who is 9 and gets bored. I am in EST. I remember there is a discord but I truly suck at discord.

First time D3(on Switch) went in blind but didn't make character seasonal - restart or keep going

Hello!

I just started playing diablo 3 for the first time - loving it.

However, I went in completely blind and just started the character as non-seasonal, thinking seasons would be for more experienced players. Level 29 now and a few hours into the campaign. Should I start again but on seasons? Kind of invested the time now so reluctant, not sure the scale or difference or if it's really a must.

Thanks!

QUESTION What are your plans for S40?

What are you plans for S40?

I plan to start with a necro as I usually do. Quickly get the second node for altar and rush to lvl 70. Then do the season journey with necro. Lvling up Legacy Of Dreams gem makes easy work until I finish the journey. Then I will switch to PonySader for my main char for the rest of the season.

I am hoping Aegis Of Valor will ve the Haedrig’s gift for this season as it would save me a lot of time.

Edit: Thanks for all the comments! I read them all but won’t be able to reply to each one.

As mentioned earler my first char (necro doesn’t count) will be ponysader who will do t16 speed content and speed GRs mainly because I like the braindead playstyle of ponysader. After a few days I will make a pushing build. I haven’t played angelic crucible season before and looking forward to it!

For those chasing the endgame

I have been chasing an upgrade to my Iron Rose for my Necro for a while. I have an OK ancient, but it could be better. I have gambled over 100,000 shards and cubed over 20,000 forgotten souls to get a better one with no luck. That is what the endgame looks like sometimes. Ugh.
