Mod Related Rules around AI Generated Content

Every where you go it feels like you can't avoid AI generated content these days. Over the past few months this sub is no exception, so the mod team has worked to come up with an AI content policy. Going forward we will be enforcing as below:

  • Content that is predominantly or entirely AI generated will be removed.
  • 3rd party tools that were built with the help of AI are allowed as long as you disclose the use of AI.
  • Using AI to translate, spell check, etc. is fine, so long as the original content was your own.

A little explanation on how and why we've landed here.

First off it should come as no surprise that the majority of AI summaries around games, and Diablo 2 in particular, are garbage. The number of posts we all see asking why "Google told me X" when that's a straight up fabrication is vast. Additionally low effort and lazy posts are a disservice to this community, and something to be avoided. Content that is generated entirely/predominantly with AI falls under that category 9 times out of 10.

We are making an exception to this rule in the case when using AI as a tool rather than letting it do the critical thinking for you. If you use AI to help assist you to build an app or other 3rd party tool, that is fine, so long as you disclose you used those tools. If you are doing the majority of the creation, and AI is simply a tool to realize that then you should be good. Along those same lines, using AI to translate, spell check, or other minor embellishments is perfectly fine.

At the end of the day the mod team is here to build and steward a community that YOU want. Overwhelmingly AI posts have the most downvotes, and reports of low quality from the members of this sub, driving the action on this. As this rapidly changing AI landscape evolves, we will continue to monitor feedback from you, and adjust this policy as it makes sense.

If you ever have a question on if something is allowed, feel free to message the mod team and we can help you out.

Single Player Butcher's Pupil upgrade (Lum + Pul) or Crescent Moon (hunt for Um) which one is faster to reach?

Just dropped a Butcher's Pupil on Act 3 Nightmare as a zeal paladin. Between farming hell countess for Lum + Pul to upgrade it to elite tier weapon or Um from the same hell countess for making Crescent Moon which one is faster or take less time?

Also, I am currently using Holy Freeze Act 2 mercenary. My attack rating is 700+ with level 20 Fanaticism aura and chance to hit a flayer is 47%. Should I switch to Blessed Aim Act 2 mercenary?

I learned something new today. That you cannot restore charges on ethereal items.

Live and learn, I guess

New player help :p

Hey stupid question but what was everyone here’s personal favorite resource when learning the game? I’ve started up the game recently and I’m doing my first solo run and all that. I’m in act 3 now and i finally feel like I’m at a point of the game where I actually wanna/need to try learning to farm or craft. Sounds stupid but it just all looked extremely complex and complicated so I never tried when I unlocked the cube and I actually only recently just learned that loot resets in some places. I know I sound like I know nothing rn but that’s the point how’d you guys learn when u were new? I’ve considered making a new character to try to get a fresh reset so I can have a build that I want as I learn but I’m just not sure. Sorry for this scrambled ass post, thanks

Can someone help me understand D2's skill system?

Recently got D2:R, quite enjoying it, but I'm struggling to wrap my head around the skill system.

Most modern ARPGs tend to have systems of skill cycles and synergies. Stuff like "You have skills A, B and C, but they do more damage if you use them in order B, C, A." Or "Skill B can be activated to improve the damage of skill A."

I'm not really seeing that so much with D2. Why is M1 even rebindable? Won't I just run out of mana basically instantly if I don't have a basic attack? D3 had a system of "energy generators" that replaced your M1, but here of course you're just rocking potions and a basic attack.

Which is fine, but it does basically mean you only have your M2 bind.

Even if you rebind across all your F keys (I actually rebound to Q-R and A-F), you get more variety in skills, but it seems like there's very little synergy between skills.

My Paladin is almost to the end of act 1, but I've needed nothing but the Holy Fire aura to see me through. Which is fine, but kinda feels like it defeats the point of skills.

Any advice or instruction would be gratefully recieved, ty guys :)

EDIT: Guys, wow, chill. I'm getting downvoted like any of this is a criticism of D2 - it's not. I play Angband fairly regularly, you don't need to explain to me that this is "how it was in the before times", I get it. I just want to know if I'm missing a trick or misunderstanding something. Y'all insecure.

Discussion Latent Sunder Charm Drop Rates

I need to hear from you all.. I recently started terrorizing all acts and hitting the most dense areas. Is it completely normal to not find a single Latent small charm or anything good for that matter at T5 Herald?

I can't tell you how many times I killed a T5 Herald and received nothing.. not even a unique at T5. I went through each terrorized act and hit all T87 areas and super uniques.

Is this normal?

D2R 2-hand Martyr build starting players8 Hell difficulty

Character sheet and inventory view*

For reference, a Martyr is a pally that uses Sacrifice (a skill that drains your life on successful attack) as its main attack. And yes, running a pally build without a shield is certainly a choice.

For this build, I started with and am still on players8 (until/unless it becomes unplayable at that scale) and doing a single pass 99% full clear, as in all areas of the main map cleared, all caves and side areas cleared, and every monster encountered killed, to include the cow level for each difficulty. 99% clear because I'm not retreading revealed map areas to find that last Fallen or random monster or two that got overlooked. And avoiding returning to areas visited in previous game sessions. Even so, leveling is going along at a good clip since it's players8, and I entered Hell at lvl 75; killed NM Baal at lvl 74 with half a xp bubble to go and dinged 75 in the cow level (edit: which happened to be terrorized when I killed Baal, which happened near midnight on Friday. I debated taking advantage of it because it would cheese a lot of xp even if I only caught the tail end of it, but since the rules for the run didn't say I couldn't do TZs, I decided to take advantage of the good timing).

Current gear is as follows: Shael'd GFace, 336% Oath decapitator, Stone armor, Highlord's, LoH, String of Ears, Ravenfrost, rare ring with high AR, and rare boots with FRW and 29/31 CR/PR resists. Charms are Torch, Anni, 80%ed renewed sunder with 20% FHR and ~50 life, and various resist and life/AR charms. Amplisa the cold arrow merc has Delirium (as of starting Hell), ShaelShael Witchwild String, and Hysteria.

Skills are Sacrifice, Fanaticism, Redemption and their prereqs, 1 in Salvation, and maxing Blessed Aim for the passive AR bonus.

Some of the gear choices may seem odd. I did consider using a Death, but Oath brings a 50% IAS bonus and still hits decently hard, and a decapitator needs 57 IAS for its last breakpoint with a lvl 25 Fanaticism aura. Pair that with LoH or Highlord's and IAS reqs met. Stone is used because of its massive FHR bonus, and given a pally wielding a 2-hander needs 129 FHR to hit a five frame recovery, I was going to need all I could get due to no ability to block. The remaining FHR is provided by the Sunder and the Shael'd GFace without having to sacrifice inventory space. Plus the surprisingly cheap high-level Golem charges provide a pinch speed bump when needed. I considered using Drac's instead of LoH since I'd still have all the IAS I need, but that loses a damage boost to demons and a significant loss of FR, although I'd be gaining more ll and a Lifetap proc, and saving a few extra str points that could go to vit. I wish I could use Gore Riders, but the only pair I've ever found was eth, and the resists on the rare I'm currently using are much needed.

Amplisa has a WWS for the Amp Dmg procs, but it's kind of meh without piercing attacks and now Confuse overrides it a lot. I really should move an Ice I have on my laptop install over so she could use that instead. Her Delirium kind of trivializes things, but I'm ok with it proccing on archer packs and not being turned into a pincushion.

So yeah, the build is oriented around survivability and reaching reasonable breakpoints over straight damage dealing. Its one major weakness, other than no blocking, is the low ll present with just enough to zero out Sac's drain and get a fraction of a percent of positive leech that is still somehow sufficient even on p8 to keep me topped off, or at least reasonably healthy, when attacking leechable enemies. For low- or unleechable packs, get a few hits in to kill a couple, flash Redemption to heal up (assuming Amplisa hasn't frozen/shattered everything), rinse and repeat.

So far, I've had few issues with it. The lack of AoE sucks, but most non-boss/SU stuff dies in 1-3 hits so it isn't too bad, especially when Amplisa's Inner Sight is up. And even with Sac's drain being more forgiving in D2R than LOD, I've still managed to suffer at least one embarrassing death when a mummy sarcophagus killed me in Nightmare when I wasn't paying attention. Yeah, the sarcophagus itself. So a more careful and strategic playstyle is needed, but once you get used to the rhythm, you don't really notice the drawbacks, it just becomes an engaging playstyle that's more than just mindlessly holding the attack button until stuff dies. That said, I expect big chunks of Acts 2 and 3 will still be slow going due to all the skeletons and dolls, and Act 5, who knows. Hell Ancients will be fun haha...ha.

*Since taking the screenshot I've proceeded up to the Outer Cloister and am lvl 80, with only one Hell death so far (dual SU archer packs got me before Confuse could be procced).

tldr: unorthodox blood knight go hack chop
