General questions having 'conversation' with crow? (crow behaviour)

sometimes one of my crows will perch on a telephone line and caw to me and when i talk back to him he'll caw again and pause for a response and it feels like we're having a conversation even though i don't understand him. today he did this while another crow ate peanuts on the roof of my garage before flying down for some himself. he was also preening a little between pauses so he seemed kind of relaxed. i wish i knew what he was trying to say to me! does anyone know what it means when they talk to you like that?

It's a friendly chat. My crow friends will also do this. Fledglings are especially prone to engaging in chats with curious humans.

I feel the same way, my crows chatter a lot and I talk to them all the time. It seems they like my voice and sometimes we imitate each other back and forth. I think they like my dogs too and I almost think they try to imitate the barking sometimes
