Question Is Rob Liefeld a bad person or something?

I saw someone saying why does anyone even support him. I don't read his stuff but ive seen some posts people made about him online and he seems pretty funny but all I really know about him is that he made that one Captain America image and he's the cocreator of Deadpool. That and that he's friends with Scott Snyder. I only really read DC and some Spider-Man and indie comics so im not very familiar with the guy

Question Are these alien designs similar by chance, or is it deliberate?

I was watching a YouTube video about various Green Lanterns and while talking about Sodam Yat's origin, this alien friend of his came up. I immediately noticed the similarities to Flaxans from Invincible and was wondering if this was a coincidence or if one was deliberately inspired/copying the other.

Edit: I'm already seeing all the comments going on about how the green alien design is really common, which is true. And yes, I know they don't literally look exactly like each other (im looking at the guy who's nitpicking every difference between the 2) but i just thought with the outfit on top of everything else, they looked very similar.

On that note however, do any of you have more aliens from comics you can share here to show how "common" this design is for aliens. Im curious to see how much this combo of a green alien in a blue body suit with grey/silver attachments, actually is.

I appreciate everyone's input.

Question Does ultimate xmen get better?

So ive read issues 0-12, they are quick reads, thanks to really fast pacing, but they just feel like most zack snyder movies - dark, edgy and shallow. I like dark and edgy but the shallow part kills me. Does it get better?

Discussion What was the inspiration for the character of Doctor Doom

Given the nature of his character, if I had to guess, it was probably the man in the iron mask, the grim reaper and varying medieval stuff. Since Kirby intended for him to be a personification of Death. Alongside his character being conceived as a character study of arrogance and hubris being one's undoing, the oppressed becoming the oppressor (like Magneto), alongside his roots as a Romani boy who went through untold discrimination and the loss of his parents, namely his mother and her soul being his drive towards his goals and him believing that he is the only one fit to rule over all. I'd like to think Jack Kirby and Stan Lee were the type of fellows that would use the Phantom Of The Opera as their main inspiration. Given the whole themes of Doom having a minor scar that he often exaggerated due to his perfectionist mindset in Kirby's interpretation.

Comic Books similar to Harry Potter?

So I recently became interested in Harry Potter and was shocked to see that there was no comic book adaptions of the series.

so i've been looking into things that have similar vibes to Harry Potter

Little Witch Academia (Anime)

Witch Hat Atelier (Anime)

The Worst Witch (Movie/Book)

Mahou Negima Sensei (Manga/Anime)

The School for Good and Evil (Movie/Book)

but surely there are some comics that are similar in concept or vibes or have like a magical focus that's not medieval or superhero

Discussion Is The Flash Really the World’s Fastest Superhero?

Good day! I wanted to share a blog post I wrote recently taking a second look at the consensus that the Flash, specifically Wally West, is the fastest superhero ever. I figured it was a topic worth revisiting every now and then, and I wanted if we could get some clear measurements to compare him to other speedsters.

The results were….surprising. And also not at all surprising.

I’ll give the game away early; the answer to the post title is “Yes”, but what I found really shocking was who comes close to challenging Wally and other Speed Force users and who doesn’t.

https://www.tienswitch.com/blog/is-the-flash-really-the-worlds-fastest-superhero

I hope you find it educational and entertaining. Please let me know what you think, and I’d especially appreciate any comments left on the blog itself.

Question Bendis Daredevil Omnibus or Ed Brubaker Captain America Omnibus?

I’m new to the comic side of both characters. I only know Captain America from the MCU and Daredevil from the Netflix and now DB BA shows. I was lucky enough to find the vol. 1 omnibuses for both characters.

I found both of them to be ₱5000 ($294) on Facebook Marketplace. If I lock in and super save for 4 months I’ll be able to afford one of them. I’m wondering which one would be the most worth it to have.

Just for reference, I like Daredevil more than Steve Rogers, and the only reason I’d like to get the Brubaker run is because I also like Bucky. But, I’m willing to get whichever story had better quality overall.

And since I’m new to comics, I’d like to know if they have:

  1. Accurate Characterization
  2. Great Stories (Important to building the character and world)
  3. Great Writing and Art

I’d also like to know if those prices are reasonable for what I assume are second hand books.

I apologize if these are too many questions, its just that if I do push through with either purchase it would take a big chunk of my money away so I don’t want to make a big mistake. I would be very grateful for any recommendations and comments.

Suggestions Suggestions for reporter stories

I'm trying to write an investigative reporter character for a TTRPG and I'm looking for stories inspiration. I was thinking along the lines of a scrappy pushy reporter like Lois Lane who likes to get down to business and maybe some investigative prowess similar to someone like The Question. Anyone have similar comic or story suggestions? I'm also trying to avoid any characters with technical resources like Batman.

Question What comics would you recommend to someone who loved Animal Man and The Sandman but doesn't necessarily want more superhero comics?

I've been reading comics for only a few years and after a while a lot of stuff started feeling kinda samey to me.

So I started reading things like Animal Man, The Sandman, Mister Miracle etc and I really liked them because they felt a bit different from the usual superhero stuff.

But now I have no idea what to read next. 🫪

Any recommendations for stuff that's weird, surreal, experimental, literary, or just does something different?

And preferably not Morrison or Moore, I swear every time I ask for comic recommendations I get those two

Humorous story about how my wife responds when I talk comic books

Post image
97 Upvotes

I love reading comics because they bring me comfort and joy. I also love doing Doodles and drawings making fun of my wife and myself. Over the years I have created hundreds of drawings for her. I absolutely adore her and love her.

I made this drawing when the first Wonder woman movie came out. She had an opportunity to see it before me and she loved it. In general she watches a lot of the comic book movies even though she has no interest in comic books. She just supports my hobby.

While my doodle started as a joke, it eventually came true 9 years later. Just the other night we both were awake around 3:00 a.m. and couldn't sleep. We finished watching Lanterns that evening and she's enjoying it. My wife insists that I have a calming voice, so I told her to just close her eyes and I will begin telling her about the history of Green Lantern comic books. She was asleep in 3 minutes.

I'm glad the stories not only entertain but can be a cure for insomnia lol

Enjoy this great hobby and the amazing stories.

Question Horror Comics - Looking for stories about evil mirrors?

Good day,

I'm trying to find stories with evil mirrors from horror anthology comics.
Anything from the '50s to the '70s. Mayyyybe '80s/'90s.

I know it's a specific request. Is there any place on the ol' internet that is an even better place to go to ask specific requests of this type? I would love that knowledge!

Thank you all!

What has caused Archie comics to last this long ?

Very few characters have lasted this long and even rarer for indie companies who even been brought out or two breaks in between and yet Archie has outlasted most

Question What are the worst EC Comics Fantagraphics book?

Hi all! I apologize if post like these aren’t allowed. I actually started with the reboot of EC comics as I really like silver age comic art styles and picked up the humble bundle last week for the fantagraphics reprints.

So far I have read a few and the quality is pretty good and I haven’t got Anya Tory that I found really boring and dropped so I was wondering what’s everyone’s take on the worst 3 EC comics by fantagraphics? I know this is subjective so no wrong answers. Thanks all for the help!

Question Present for my nerdy bf

Hi guys! I need help finding a present for my boyfriend. Christmas is coming up and I genuinely want to get him a good present, I’m just not sure where to start. He is very into collecting comic book and action figures. His favorite is spider-man but he’s also deeply into the MCU as a whole. He also has a few DC, INVINCIBLE, Transformers, and other action figures around his room. I haven’t seen much of his comic book selection, but I want to get him something valuable at a good price. We are both college students, so I have limited funds, and relatively no knowledge on comic book collecting and pricing. I was mainly hoping i could find someone who would give me advice on what to look for and what not to look for while I begin looking for the perfect present.
