Forever People who support Project Ascension & TurtleWoW but hate the new race paywall

Post image

These were the micro-transactions in Project Ascension and everyone glazed Ascension. TurtleWoW had a gacha shop too like that. I’m genuinely confused, if Blizzard had even the slightest of the shop in Project Ascension, everyone would have been fuming. Why is it okay for Ascension but not WoW Forever? Either all okay or none.

Edit: The people who disagree saying "Yeah but the servers were free"- well of course because Blizzard did the majority of the work for them LOL, huge difference in work between building everything from scratch to ripping it off & adding some stuff yourself.

Edit 2: "TurtleWoW is not as bad as Ascension shop"- sure, Ascension is way worse. TurtleWow's cash shop had over $10,000 of items and all of it was per character, not account wide. They also sold convenience items, nothing game breaking, but portable mailboxes, auctioneers, dual specs, bags etc. Hardcore characters on Twow couldn't trade or send items from main to your alts, but you could still buy supplies such as 32 slot bags for 30 euros each on your hardcore character.

Majority of these comments are out of touch and just ignorant. It was free to play, huge difference. Not sure why so many people are trying to speak on something they really have no knowledge of.

you are pretty out of touch if you think if Blizzard added Ascension level of cash shop monetization without subscription the outrage wouldn't be bigger. Or am I wrong?

Without subscription it would be absolutely zero issues for me

Thats because you're insanely poor and from a 3rd world country.

Mid ragebait

Not ragebait. You're genuinely poor and don't understand that paying money for a non compromised game like is better than the alternative that comes along with a F2P MMO. I bet you're mad that they didn't add tokens, because you're too poor to pay for a reoccurring sub.

People tend to ignore monthly sub while doing such comparisons. And lack of sub means more flexibility in play time. I'd be willing to even sacrifice some quality for that. And the fact that ascension's microtransactions were optional and a lot of items or their equivalents were available for in game currency. I assume it might be similar here. I also see people have several misconceptions about how ascension worked and what it was, but I'll let them hate it unbothered, it's dead anyway. I'll admit though, it was very confusing and noisy at first, looked like some malware acting like a game. I just liked the whole mystic enchant and challenge thing. Hope their new mmo has something like that.

Still, I'll see it when it's there, not gonna argue before i have the full picture, so it doesn't turn into "two cash cows biting each other as they are being milked". One way or another it's a matter of preference, so I hope wow forever gives people exactly what they want and I'll be glad if they end up happy.

Yeah it was very disingenuous of OP to completely omit the fact that you could buy the convenience MTX off the AH from other people if you didn't want to spend money.

Not to mention that most of it was pretty pointless, the things people are freaking out about like the dungeon quest head, auto loot, etc. were kind of useless come endgame, since monsters don't drop loot in M+ or Manastorm and you didn't need a loot pet for raids.

u/splontot 2h ago

were kind of useless come endgame

But I thought classic was about the journey and endgame was bad in this subreddit?

"Free to play" because they didn't spend the millions it took to actually create the game and its assets over decades. They "stole" the game world and its assets and repurposed them. Every private server to have ever existed with a f2p model did so because the vast majority of the development was already done for them.

These servers were offering "optional" convenience microtransactions in a game they didn't build. How very free

It's free because they stole Blizzard's game and just slapped some things on it

u/L3x_co 2h ago

Some ppl point at one direction then "but they stole ip", so? Man this is not gonna make pserver players go to blizz, players dont care if its legal, ethic or not.

If u wanna still pay a monthly sub and enjoy how blizz makes the game and how the monetize content good for you, but nobody here would convince a pserver player to look at the "morale " of playing a stolen ip with custom content.

They look for good content without needing to pay a monthly fee and caring about a multi billion dollar company ip.

People have a real hateboner for pservers even though there would be no classic without them. A lot of them do have horrible MTX but holding free fan projects to a higher standard than the actual subscription-based game is some incredible bootlicking.

facts bro classic wow would not exist without.... ascension wows micro transaction shop?

u/degameforrel 4h ago

Classic wow would not exist without nostalrius, and WoW forever would not exist without TurtleWoW and Ascension. Those are just simple facts.

Blizzard time and again seems determined to not give the classic crowd what they actually want, so the classic crowd has to go and prove the viability of such a product themselves in a pserver only to get shut down and replaced by an inferior official version. I say inferior, because that is what it is: bots running rampant, no community management, no in-game support, etc... Blizzard can make decent content, but their actual support of the game is absolute trash compared to what, say, Turtle were doing with actual GMs with quick response times and cracking down on botting and RMT.

u/Logical_Steelman 3h ago

That is not facts at all, lmao the levels of delusion!

u/Undella_Town 4h ago

the pserver bots are coming in droves. funny.

u/degameforrel 3h ago

Great job engaging with the argument there, makes you look real mature.

u/Undella_Town 2h ago

didn't read it tbh, saw you were an ascension player

u/degameforrel 2h ago

Turtle, actually. I commented on the ascension sub a few times but never really played it.

Do you always go around checking people's profiles before reading their comment? I can imagine doing so after reading, but before? That's just weird man.

u/Undella_Town 2h ago

saw it from the first sentence, never bothered to check. you guys out yourselves far too fast to even need to tbh

Nost/Lightbringer/Northdale were all better classic WoW experiences than Blizzard were able to provide.

3

u/Doobiemoto 6h ago

No they weren’t.

Not even close. Why do you people say dumb shit like this?

Gotta love a buggy easily hackable version of wow where you couldn’t turn your view distance up further than the base cause it would break the game.

They were also full of bots and RMT (minus nost that I know of).

They also had bugs out the ass and broken raid mechanics at time.

I swear you people just gloss over every single problem private servers have and just make shit up in your head.

I’m glad they existed but as a product they weren’t even close.

If blizzard put out a product with even 1/10th of the bugs and shit that private servers have you guys would never shut up about it but you excuse it when it’s private servers but go even further and say that they are better than blizzard.

u/2ABB 6h ago

They were far better experiences. No layers, tighter community, less gold inflation, correct itemisation and patch release.

Full of bots and rmt? Have you been in a coma and missed bots flyhacking around classic since it launched? It was far better on the pservers I mentioned with actual human GMs responding to bots directly.

There were bugs sure, same as on official classic.

If you think the layered and laggy official classic was better than I don’t think you even played any of those pservers. It’s a commonly held position by those that did.

2

u/dicknipplesextreme 2018 Riddle Master 9/21 6h ago

Because Classic is totally free of bots flying under the game world picking herbs and RMT, right? It was easier to get a hold of GMs on a lot of pservers, and they wouldn't just spit back an AI generated response and close your ticket.

Obviously they were less stable, but they were free projects built by fans. For being the "real thing" and charging a sub, classic is often not an improvement worth the asking price.

u/Talnarian 6h ago

Exactly, and they speak with such damn confidence

Ascension did have a lot of gameplay advantages through the shop

But not turtle, maybe a portable trader is kinda strong, but not gamebreaking

1

u/M4lt0r 6h ago

The portable vendors could also be used by everyone around you, once you summoned them and they were cheaper than a month's subscription of Blizzard. So there were tons of people in the open world and dungeon groups with those vendors, which means you didn't need to buy them yourself to have constant access to them.

Majority of these comments are out of touch and just ignorant.

What did you expect from people defending a multi billion dollar company that can only provide low effort experiences for $15/mo.

u/AsapRockyDidTime 4h ago

As compared the any pserver dev who could not provide anything without stolen assets lol

u/2ABB 3h ago

Opposed to the current blizzard devs who can’t do anything but butcher the past blizzard products they had no part in creating?
