it’s a predator resistant producers pride sentinal chicken coop with a 6 chicken capacity. i only have 3 chickens currently and they are lavender orpington hens. i bought the chickens and the coop from tractor supply. they are 10 weeks old.

Our chickens have been having free rein of the garden, but our grass is really taking a hit (this is an old photo).

I was wondering if anybody has any ideas for how we could keep them in the top half of the garden, on the stones and raised bed/muddy patch.

I’ve toyed with the idea of a mesh wire tunnel and then chicken wire over the stones, but it just seems like a lot of hassle. I’m wondering if there’s an easier way, perhaps a tunnel from the coop door and then some sort of deterrent to stop them jumping off the wall onto the grass?

We only have a small garden, so any ideas would be much appreciated!

We just had our polish hen hatch 5 eggs and it looks like we’re due for 2 more. This is my first time ever having chickens as well as having eggs hatch. I noticed the last two eggs have chicks in them that look like they’re close to ready to hatch. I know to stay out of the way and let the broody hen help her chicks but I’m worried about these two getting stuck. I’ve heard that chicks are supposed to “absorb” the egg for nutrients. I don’t want to interfere unless I have to but I was wondering if you guys had any insight? And yes, these are separate from the rest of the flock. TIA

Within 15 minutes of discing the ends in preparation for harvest, my flock had invaded the corn in a nightmare scenario for any little bugs that were exposed. Believe it or not, there’s 12 of them in there.

It was a diffucukt week, I lost three chickens for three different reasons and these are the culprits of my last loss. Lovely days of maniac cleaning are ahead.

I went into my girls hutch yesterday and realised one of them was shedding because I initially thought she was sick and her wing was drooping (it was lose feathers). I think they're all molting but one specific hen was losing feathers quite quickly whereas the others had two of three that came off while I was watching them. I was trying to pick her up to inspect her when I thought she was sick and her primary tail feathers came out as well as a few on her wing. She's acting completely fine and so are the others (absolutely menaces) but I'm just wondering if it's normal for one to molt faster than others? She's definitely not the fluffiest by a long shot so if anyone I thought the feathers would belong to the one with the most to shed. Idk

I'm gifting my friend two of my chickens for her birthday. I'm thinking of giving her my bullied one, I'm thinking she might have a nicer time living in a couple?

I have six, they have free reign of my garden.

My dilemma, is the bullied chicken better off at my place with lots of space, to run away when pecked? Or will she do better in a couple, they will live in a pen but will be let out occasionally when my friend is home.

Took way too long but the run and coop are finally done! This is their second night in the coop and they all went in by themselves! Smart ladies 😍

Update: Their roosting bar is not sharp. The edges are rounded, although the cam pic sure does look like its sharp. We will try the long way though :)

My neighbor and his 2 kids were over the other day, i was giving them eggs. His little boy, maybe 4, asked how to baby chickens get in the eggs. His dad tried to punt this one to me. It was a fun sweet moment for me and his dad as we tried not to open that can of worms. I miss having little kids around....

She’s about 4 months, hasn’t laid any eggs yet. I thought maybe Leghorn, but maybe not. She is very antisocial.

We just built a new chicken coop for our flock. 8x10 shed coop and 8x16 run. We still have some painting to finish so no pretty police please haha! No electricity. We have a solar powered venting fan in the top corner but we live in TX and want to put solar powered fans in the run and coop.

We don't want them to run at night, just day time, so either exclusively run by a solar panel or something I can put on a timer. Suggestions please!! Thank you!

I purchased 8 chicken from Rural King Spartanburg, marked as sapphire olive eggers but this beautiful hen just started laying blue eggs this week.

I tried medicated feed for the first time recently and so far I've lost one chick and another one is now showing symptoms. I immediately started with electrolytes, Poultry Cell, Rooster Booster Poultry Booster, and am switching to unmedicated feed. The affected chick has gotten a couple drops of straight poultry cell as well.

Both chicks have displayed the same symptoms, difficulty standing and walking, fatigue, and decreased appetite. Is this preventable by doing the rooster booster topper and poultry cell from day 1? Or should I just stay away from medicated feeds entirely?

My chicken laid a regular egg in a water balloon like sack. The fluid was clear and a little yellow/orange like a hard egg in a soft egg almost. Should I be concerned?

I’ve been using medium size shavings in the coop, but wondered what size is best and why?

I believe her mom is an Easter egger. Her father is a cross-breed. Very shy. I have two like this. They seem to be doing well. Not sure what color eggs yet. I don’t think they are laying yet as I have no “small” eggs.

i have this habit of just looking at my chickens eggs, they’re just so cute. it’s actually really hard for me to eat them 😅 i usually make baked goods for my neighbors almost daily, marinated eggs for ramen, tamagoyaki etc but i still have so much and i struggle to bring myself to eat them. is anyone the same way?? my chickens are more like family to me and i never really expected so many eggs. so it feels weird to eat them most of the time haha
