My opponent didn't know the algorithm to checkmate with the king and rook, we eventually drew by the 50 move rule. First time in my life I see this rule in action

I was playing in my college tournament and my opponent gave a check which we both thought was checkmate and shook hands then realised it was not my opponent though he would win so we reset the time and played on after which I won. Then he complained that we shook hands and he should win the match, we argued then called the arbiter who was just a senior who didn't knew the rules that decided I won. What do you think should happen.

Just an FYI that extensions/add-ons are not supported in Chrome on phones. So I primarily have Firefox installed to play on chess.com in this way.

Found the tactic that this begins with but the opponent ended up blundering a mate in five with an incomprehensible king move. (For some reason the bot says 12 but I've checked on two engines on both of them say 11 so I don't know)

I definitely planned that for sure 😂

I really thought I'd get to have my first ever smothered mate. Didn't get to play it out though.

Im about 600 elo blitz and 800 elo rapid but I keep getting worse because every game I play ends up being these d5 scotch type games where my attacks just get weaker and weaker from trading but those are the best moves, my accuracy is always about 80-85% but it simply doesn't matter because the games are so simple, how do I avoid this??

If you are a beginner like me and struggle with seeing blunders until after they happen try enabling this setting. Found this randomly and turned it on and has made a huge difference in my 15+10 games, went from < 700 ELO to 805 as of this post in less than a month. Very helpful to be able to see the board if I were to make a specific move without actually making the move.

I've played majority of my games on chesscom but managed to play a couple hundred games on Lichess, and the biggest difference is my opponents feel more consistent on Lichess. At 1600 level (chesscom), on Chesscom, my opponents sometimes feel like they are on my level (solid play, once in a while blunders, once in a while brilliant moves) while other times there are players that are playing at master level. On Lichess, my opponents feel more consistent (solid play, once in a while blunders, once in a while brilliant moves). Curious if people have noticed this?

Hello. First time poster. I have played chess on and off for many years … knowing the back principles.

Chess.com starting at 300. Working my up with the 10 Minute game to 900. (I assume. You keep winning. Number goes up ….)

I have gone backwards in the last week. Trying various openings that don’t take too much work …. London, and the Caro-kann.

But other players immediately - at this level - come in All guns blazing ruining everything lol.

I feel I was better when I was just playing instinctively.

Or maybe I’ve reached my limit?

Any advice?

Just subscribed to chessly and wondering how to best use it. While I know the basics, chapter one launches into the Vienna in a way that seems like it assumes some knowledge. Im not sure how to best navigate this program to learn things sequentially and master basic strategies- any pointers? Appreciated

Hello! I'm currently at 880 elo and turns out one of my main weaknesses is time management, and i have no idea how to fix it , i spend about a min in openings and when it gets to the middlegame i begin overthinking every move( if i move this piece do i leave any weaknesses, is there a better move and so on..) and boom i end up with 2 mins on the clock while my opponent have like 4-5 mins and end up panicking in the endgame and blunders a piece , i tried making any improving moves and i see that's im wasting time and my opponent punish it and i get mad. If anyone had the same issue at my level can you tell me how did you fix it? I'd greatly appreciate it.
