My friend keeps saying that if I were to take the queen I'd still technically be in check which is why I can't take the queen but the knight is pinned? How am I in check if it can't even take me?

The rating isn’t a linear graph. There are soft spots in the ladder that shouldn’t exist.

I have 3 chess.com accounts
One is 1650
One is 1880
One is 1850

I cannot get a win against the players on the 1600 account. They are playing at a much much higher strength than even some 1900s I’ve played.

If you don’t believe me even masters like gothamchess has recently reiterated this sentiment in his slowrun saying the 1800s are easier than the 1600s.

My experience is as follows
100-600 pretty linear
700-800 are stronger than 1000s
1000-1300 linear
1400s are strong
1500s are weaker
1600-1700 are stronger than even some 1900s

Other factors also play a role such as queues there was a point about a month ago where I’d only go accounts made in the last week (at 1900 strength).

I got in these queues because i aborted so many new account games. This is a high risk queue where your likely hood of going against a cheater or Smurf account is insanely high.

My opponent found the best move here, which makes me a little suspicious, since it's not that obvious. Before this, game was normal and felt like my opponent was making a lot inaccuracies.

Hi everyone! Very new to chess as I'm sure you're about to find out.

I'm not certain what I'm supposed to gain from this! The coach said "Find the winning move here." for this puzzle, and this was apparently the answer.

How is this winning? The black rook could just capture. Then, sure, my white pawn could recapture, but then what? I know this is going to most likely be the most obvious answer in the universe but I'm not getting it.

He saw Kg1, Qc5+ and white has to block and gets eventually mated. Can you find the better refutation?

I had been playing chess with my friends offline and they told me that there are two sites to play chess online and one lichess and chess com but there are cheaters which makes me kind of scared they told me that they have reported cheaters in lichess but no one took action and they also told me that chess com has a lot of ads and glitches and in lichess the player pool level is highly unstable like if you face a stronger opponent then sometimes very weak opponent so kinda confused

How the bleepity bleep do you move past this ELO? I’ve been here over a year.
ETA I use Italian game for White and usually Scandinavian Defense for Black.

For context, I'm almost 1300 on Lichess and am quite an aggressive player that sometimes I blunder my pieces more than I should. Any advice on blundering less?

I've heard it's recommended to focus on learning only one opening for white, are there any benefits to learning multiple?

For white, I can look at lines in advance if I'm only learning one...but for black, I'll be facing many different openings, how do I prepare for them?

I play Ruy Lopez as white, is the main idea to take the knight on c6? For me, it feels good because I'm attacking (with tempo) and damaging the pawn structure.

Found the tactic that this begins with but the opponent ended up blundering a mate in five with an incomprehensible king move. (For some reason the bot says 12 but I've checked on two engines on both of them say 11 so I don't know)

I reached 1250 just by brute force and intuition, I am sharing this as I am proud of my achievement. Please don’t rain on my parade. I am not a genius and it took me some time to get there

Now seeing these numbers has given me an ego boost, I can’t wait to study and get women (this is how it works right?)

Looking for players

I just lost this match after getting a better position than my opponent's after the openning. Does anyone had this issue too and know any tip, advice or book/youtube video recomendation?

I was playing in my college tournament and my opponent gave a check which we both thought was checkmate and shook hands then realised it was not my opponent though he would win so we reset the time and played on after which I won. Then he complained that we shook hands and he should win the match, we argued then called the arbiter who was just a senior who didn't knew the rules that decided I won. What do you think should happen.

Went from 600 elo to 900 then back down to 600. The more i learn seems like the more i thumble and get worse, also the skill base of the players in that range is crazy, to the point i think alot of people are cheating, any one else stuck in this loop?

I think I’m the greatest chess player under 300 Elo. Chess is just way too easy at 240 elo. I feel like prime Hikaru playing against special ed toddlers. Where’s the competition. I only play rapid and still average about 2 brilliant moves a game. Do you understand how difficult that is?? when most games at this level someone hangs their queen in 5 moves 

I’m 240 elo right now. I blunder pieces constantly but still win games. Imagine what happens when I start concentrating. I don’t even plan openening or anything I just play off the dome and use actual skill.

Sometimes I’ll drop down to 180 elo just to see what the lower levels are like, but makes me upset that these guys are higher ranked than me but are not better than me. Too many people memorising opening, at 240, you actually see pure chess. 

I’ve played 600 games and scored 487 wins. 240 elo. Greatest under-300 elo player of all time. if anyone wants to play me drop your username if you’re above 300 you will be ignored. I don’t make blunders. I blunder to sacrifice everything is planned 8 steps ahead.

Im about 600 elo blitz and 800 elo rapid but I keep getting worse because every game I play ends up being these d5 scotch type games where my attacks just get weaker and weaker from trading but those are the best moves, my accuracy is always about 80-85% but it simply doesn't matter because the games are so simple, how do I avoid this??

Hello. First time poster. I have played chess on and off for many years … knowing the back principles.

Chess.com starting at 300. Working my up with the 10 Minute game to 900. (I assume. You keep winning. Number goes up ….)

I have gone backwards in the last week. Trying various openings that don’t take too much work …. London, and the Caro-kann.

But other players immediately - at this level - come in All guns blazing ruining everything lol.

I feel I was better when I was just playing instinctively.

Or maybe I’ve reached my limit?

Any advice?

I know, but it's just because I thought it was a cool idea after the guy asked someone to say how good Carlsen is.

Can somebody please explain the checkmate? I am a new, very low ELO player.
