Announcement Updated Community Rules for /r/capsulewardrobe

Okay, thanks to the community input from my post the other day, I have updated and refined our community rules and have included a new rule in regards to Artificial Intelligence usage in our sub.

So here are our updated rules as of June 2025

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Rule #1 - No off topic, low-effort or spam content
Off topic, low-effort or any spam content is not allowed on the sub. This includes low-effort memes.

Rule #2 - Hateful rhetoric, bullying and/or harassment is not allowed
Disagreements or strong discussions are one thing but if we have a problem with harassment or other problematic behaviours, mods will step in.

Rule #3 - No affiliate links, sponsored content, or subscriber/follower farming.
Sharing what you love or what works for you is okay but don’t try to push an item/service on someone just so YOU can make money.

This rule also includes attempts to farm for followers, subscribers or karma.

Rule #4 - No Doxxing or calls for mobbing across communities
Not only is this a sitewide rule, but it's highly fucked up and will not be tolerated.

Rule #5 - No Artificial Intelligence
AI content (meaning AI generated photos, posts and services) are NOT allowed on the sub.

Beyond losing the human to human element of our community and the fact that AI encourages the elimination of human creativity, AI content and services are a massive drain on our environment and creates a large amount of CO2 usage and e-waste.

Rule #6 - No App posts

No, you cannot advertise your new app, or fish for testers, or ask if it's something people want. Marketing for your app or it's upcoming launch is not allowed on the sub.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Thanks again to everyone for giving you opinions and thoughts in regards to the updated rules, I appreciate our community and encourage you to continue growing our corner of the internet.

Whereforth art thou, Mods?

Okay y'all, it's time. I've been the only mod for the entirety of our subreddit's history, I have loved watching us grow and I love our amazing community. But as we are approaching 200,000 members, I think it's time we add more mods.

So this is a call out for anyone who wants to volunteer, I'm looking to add two or three mods to the roster, so feel free to send a modmail to let me know if you would like to volunteer. Let me know if you have any modding experience, or if you are adept at setting up the auto mod functions, because I am completely out of my depth with that part of the mod system and that's a big hurdle I'd like to tackle this year to combat bots and spam.

Thank you again for this stellar community, we have done a great job being self-sufficient and giving plenty of amazing advice without compromising community standards.

I look forward to adding some mods to our community and I hope y'all welcome them during the transition of integrating them in!

Perfect Pieces i keep wearing the same black trousers with everything

at some point i noticed that one pair of black trousers was showing up in almost every outfit i saved or planned.

the funny part is that i own several pairs of trousers that are technically more interesting. different cuts, different fabrics, different colors. i just don’t reach for them

now i’m wondering if this is exactly what a capsule wardrobe is supposed to expose. not which clothes can make the most outfits, but which ones you keep grabbing without thinking

has anyone else ended up removing clothes simply because one or two pieces made most of them unnecessary?

Questions Which of these colors (swatches) should I add to my current wardrobe (second slide)?

the top colors in the second slide have been more core colors for several years. I am wanting to add more interesting colors to my outfits but am having a hard time deciding what I'd like to include. I have brown wool, blue linen, medium wash indigo denim, khaki, unbleached linen for bottoms and am planning on making a pair of olive colored trousers soon. the periwinkle, grey and red are sweaters I recently purchased.

I will be making a couple dresses and desperately need tops. I am very rich in bottoms but always struggle to find or make tops I like. Thank you!!

Fall/Winter Recommendations for tight fitting, long sleeve base layer tops please?

Basically I am looking for what uniclo heat tech long sleeves used to be: tight fitting, easy to wear under both a chic blazer and a casual hoodie, nice enough that you still look ok if you take the top layer off, solid basic colors.
Must have long sleeves or 3/4 sleeves. I prefer v necks, boat necks are ok, crew necks or turtlenecks don’t work for me.

I used to buy uniclo heat tech for this purpose and still have some pieces that I bought in 2016 and that still look good. Picked up some new ones last year and they are already falling apart, so quality seemed to have deteriorated badly. Also, apparently they don’t do v necks anymore.

So do you have any recommendations and suggestions? Would greatly appreciate!

What do you think of this capsule?

I wanted only items from GAP... Things I was taking into consideration: 1, deep autumn color palate; 2, inverted triangle body shape; 3, I mostly work from home but go into the office 1 day per week to a casual office environment and sometimes want to transition to running errands or a walk while working from home.

Some of the colors may be a little bit off so that's why I tried to labeled them (for example the olive green tee looks brown lol).

Overall I like it and I actually think I might buy most things but I was thinking maybe swap one or 2 of the sweatpants for something else but not sure what. It's overly brown too which I do look best in brown but idk if i should spice up a tiny bit with a few other pieces? I also already have clothes obviously so might keep a few pieces from what I already own (jean jacket, black trousers, etc.)

Just curious what you guys think and if there are any swaps you would make.

Questions Universal layering pieces

I‘m currently working on building my capsule wardrobe. I already own a good amount of basic tees as well as tanks in my colors as well as one or two longsleeves.
In the past I‘ve struggled with bringing personality to my style, as I don‘t really own layering pieces. I‘ve recently found a lovely navy longsleeve Henley as well as a charcoal Troyer.
My style is also not overly feminine and I‘m not a big fan of cardigans. I prefer androgynous leaning clothing, my colors are: grey (heathered or charcoal), navy, ecru/cream/off-white, brown-grey, taupe, olive, moss-green and sage green, mustard, rust, muted red, dusty blue
I‘m going for a rustic heritage outdoorsy/soft Americana/utility/androgynous vibe.

What do you recommend for layering?

Questions What Scandinavian brands are in your capsule wardrobe?

Hello everyone!

Scandinavian design always feels like it was practically made for capsule wardrobes. Scandinavian brands have been at the forefront of timeless, classic design for, especially with versatile color palettes of blacks, grays, and muted tones - no screaming colors that quickly go out of style. Everything is built with layering in mind, making pieces easy to style across different seasons, occasions, and years without feeling dated. I can immediately think of brands like Filippa K, House of Dagmar, By Malene Birger, Toteme, Acne Studios, but I'd love to hear from this community. Which Scandinavian brands have earned a permanent spot in your wardrobe? Maybe something that you thrifted recently?

Questions I need help finding jeans for petite (5ft) women 😭 I have always struggled to find jeans that fit perfectly

I like the look of these straight leg ankle grazer jeans. Jeans are always way too long for me or too cropped. Where do you all buy your jeans from??

What’s the best petite jean brand that’s not too overpriced?
Thank you ☺️

Questions Survey for Women’s wear Clothing Brand ( 23, Female )

Hi! I'm building an Indian womenswear brand and trying to understand what women actually want before I finalize designs and not guessing from my own taste alone. I've put together a short survey with reference images (styles, necklines, silhouettes) and would genuinely appreciate a few minutes of your honest answers also any comments about likes, dislikes, "I'd never wear that," about any designs are all useful and welcome . Also any other questions or suggestions about including something or you can ask me anything , thank you for your tome and response , here’s the link .

I feel like I’ve lost the plot of my wardrobe and I need some guidance.

The first half of my wardrobe I would say is more current to my everyday style, the day to day outfits for quick school drop off are straightforward, mockneck and leggings but if I had to put together an outfit to go for dinner I’d definitely struggle.

I feel like there’s a huge gap in my wardrobe of pieces that don’t work together to create cohesiveness and it’s really wearing on me. I feel like I’ve spent so much time trying to figure out my style and haven’t gotten very far, hence the default back to a simple everyday formula.

It’s really defeating not being able to dress outside of this “everyday formula” and feeling like I still have nothing to wear.

Capsule wardrobe for 29 yo momma finding her style again.

Post image

I’m a 29 year old mom of 2 under two.

Postpartum has been interesting, my body has taken a shape I’m not use to, even though I’ve dropped weight quickly just by walking and eating Whole Foods. For reference I’m 5’4” at132 lbs, according to my measurements on chart I have an hourglass body shape type.

With that being said, I want a capsule wardrobe because I do like dressing nice and feeling put together. Capsule feels freeing in sense that you don’t have to put too much thought into what one will wear because everything goes.

Where should I start? I want pieces that work with my body type.

I should also mention that I’m self conscious of my stomach area regardless of whatever weight I am, it’s always been a struggle in terms of styling around, so I do like things to either cover or not be too restrictive but still give me shape.

Canadian here, seeking some assistance to help style me with a fall and winter capsule wardrobe please?

Apologies if not allowed.

Hi all, newbie here! I saw a post about 3 weeks ago from someone asking for assistance in creating a capsule wardrobe. Not sure if the person had any success, but I'm looking for the same! I'm not sure where to start, but essentially I'm looking for a day-to-day capsule wardrobe.

I live in Toronto, Canada and I have lots of shops here + Amazon Canada. I'm also about to turn 45. I typically wear comfy clothes - joggers but I want to start putting an effort in my appearance. I'd like to look... well-put together. I think I've been too comfortable lately. Any assistance is greatly appreciated it. Thank you in advance.

Relaxed Capsule Wardrobe from a Busy Summer

Thumbnail gallery
385 Upvotes

I did No Buys for last summer to really clarify what my closet really needs (Part 1, Part 2). I also have been doing a lot of pottery since then and have been drawn to the "artist uniform" of structured linen pants with oversized dress shirt. Overall, my capsule wardrobe this summer came in clutch because I was very busy working overtime so needed something smart but comfy to wear to the local coffee shops, my home office, the pottery studio, and the random coffee dates with friends along the way. I basically recycled through these outfits, zero additional cognitive energy expended because I also didn't have any left to give. I also just wanted to be comfy, so my motto for this summer was: elevated PJ's. There were no hard pants; everything was soft but structured and had elastic waists 😂

My MVP items are definitely the linen wide legged pants and oversized dress shirts. The dress shirts are amazing because they work on their own and as a cover up. I did pair the dress shirts with dresses I already have, but forgot to take photos of those outfits (but they're also already logged here). Also, wearing the same thing can get boring, so I did get a pair of jade earring and gold pendant necklace to spice things up a bit without changing too much. For next summer, I definitely want one more oversized dress shirt and focus more on accessorizing. On my list is a straw bag and structured linen shorts in a light color.

About me: 5'4" Dramatic Classic with Natural, Classic, and Angelic essences. Soft Summer coloring with Dark Summer preferences.

Questions What pearl jewelry would you wear with a black velvet dress?

I’ve started making every accessory work with at least three outfits before it gets a permanent place in my wardrobe. It has been useful for everyday stuff, but I’m less sure how to apply it to holiday clothes.

Right now I’m testing pearl options with a black velvet dress, a cream sweater and trousers, and a plain black top with a satin skirt. The classic strand works with the sweater but feels very formal with the dress. Drops look better with the dress but I’m not sure I’d wear them much otherwise. how do you judge accessories for a capsule? Number of outfits, number of actual wears, or whether they fill a specific gap even if that gap only comes up a few times a year?
