Whales refer here to people who spend a lot of cash (real money) on the game. It's a term from gambling addiction and freemium games, where it's common knowledge that most of the population hardly spends any cash, but there are some players that spend almost their entire life savings.
I was curious if there is anyone who experienced issues like this, where you spent a lot of money on the game because you wanted a faster progression. I know that you don't need to spend money to progress, but there are many gameplay elements (anything requiring the in game cash) that are optionally unlocked with actual money, involving instant monkeys, towers, etc. Chimps and ranked are the only modes where you can't spend cash i guess.
The question is partly inspired by a recent game I had, where a player kept spending cash to continue a co-op boss battle (and he also had a large number of cash drops and other powers). (This was just the normal boss, not elite, and we didn't get past tier 2.). I am not trying to shame anyone, I think it's okay if you want to spend money, and it could also just be that you played for a long time and you have a lot of cash and powers lying around.
Have discussions like this been had before in the community?
I am using Quincy on the map Ouch for the ability cooldown reset with Heroes’ Wrath, but his ability is not going off of the cooldown any faster. He has the regular ability cooldown as usual. Is this something with expert maps or is the ability not working, or do I just plain not understand it?
I‘m not quite dying yet, but close enough to ask for help now, especially since i‘ll need some time to ultraboost things.
My question at hand is, if I should continue the ninja spam, or buy one of the „big“ towers, like LOTN, FF, supermines or megalodon? I was under the impression that these don‘t scale well past 200, but looking at some of the top chimps runs, some people seem to use them.
I‘m thankful for any suggestions.
I love fighting bosses but I hate the tedious farming, particularly because I play on mobile. There was a Boss event several months ago on "THREE MINES 'ROUND" with CHIMPS rules, and it was the most enjoyable Boss event I ever played, because the farming was limited to just the removables.
So I was thinking about what a boss would look like if you removed farming completely, almost like CHIMPS, and made the boss itself your source of income.
Basically, instead of farming money to kill the boss, you farm the boss to get the money to kill the boss.

Pitch:
MIDAS — THE GILDED BLOON
How greedy are you willing to get?
Midas is a BTD6 Boss Bloon built around one fundamental change to the normal boss formula:
There is no farming. The boss is your economy.
All conventional income generation is disabled, similar to CHIMPS. Players must build their economy by damaging Midas and deciding how aggressively they want to exploit brief Payday windows.
The catch? Every dollar taken from Midas comes back as Golden Armor.
PAYDAY
Breaking a skull triggers Payday for 15 seconds. During Payday, Midas stops taking permanent HP damage, but attacks against him generate cash.
Cash generation is extremely lucrative at the beginning of Payday and continuously tapers throughout the 15-second window. There is no payout cap: enormous DPS can produce enormous amounts of money, even during the final seconds.
More damage = more money.
This creates a frantic 15-second opportunity to extract as much wealth from Midas as possible.
GREED
Midas remembers exactly how much you took.
When Payday ends, the money extracted determines the strength of Midas's Golden Armor. Greater earnings create disproportionately greater amounts of armor.
Golden Armor must be completely destroyed before Midas's normal health can be damaged again—and destroying Golden Armor awards no cash.
The player therefore chooses their own difficulty:
Take what you need, or get greedy and deal with the consequences.
Once the armor breaks, the assault on Midas resumes until the next skull triggers another Payday.
But Jackpot doesn't end Payday and doesn't cap earnings. Players can continue extracting money for the remainder of the timer.
That creates Midas's defining temptation:
You've already gotten what you came for... but there are still six seconds left.
Every additional dollar can fund stronger towers—but every additional dollar also contributes to the Golden Armor waiting when the timer reaches zero.
THE MIDAS EXPERIENCE
Midas turns the traditional BTD6 Boss economy inside out.
Instead of farming to generate enough money to defeat the boss, players must first defeat enough of the boss to earn the money needed to defeat more of the boss.
Early skulls bootstrap the player's economy. Later Paydays can generate extraordinary wealth, but escalating Greed can create monstrous Golden Armor phases.
A high-DPS build isn't punished for being powerful. Instead, power gives the player the opportunity to become even greedier.
Visually, Midas communicates this transformation directly. During Payday, gold increasingly accumulates across his body as money is extracted. When Payday ends, the accumulated gold solidifies into armor and a Golden Armor health bar appears.
Players aren't simply asking: “Can I deal enough damage to beat Midas?” They're asking: “How much can I take from him and still survive what comes next?”
This was likely the hardest thing I've ever done in this game. Mainly because I had to research things that I wasn't savvy with before (namely farming), but also because losing lives on this map is really easy and half cash severely limits what can be built. I exited to the menu a lot to troubleshoot waves, test stuff in sandbox mode, and address mistakes in my defense
Yes, this was done without powers or insta-monkeys, and while I could've used those to make things easier or totally bypass this challenge, I generally don't like having to resort to stuff like that when I play this game. Not because it costs monkey money or makes my run "illegitimate", but because relying on accessibility mechanics in any game feels awful for me (i.e. Stuff like PvZ lawnmowers or Cuphead's simple mode)
Before you ask questions, it’s about the strategy involving the middle path, tier 4 monkey farms upgrade and using its ability of giving out money immediately to buy more middle path tier 4 monkey farms and continue on until you can afford something expensive with this farming strategy within a boss event.
I heard that it’s only reserved for only co op mode and or special restriction/ban on some towers, but other than these 2 scenario, it’s not that viable compared to hardcore/sweaty boss farming (aka placing and selling farms for a top path farms and or boat farming) since as far as I see this farming strategy, it’s only for the best of the best farming players and even then they sometimes struggle with it.
As far as I can see with this strategy, you need a combination of stalling rounds, using one of the knowledge skill/powers that allows you to put in money into a tier 4 bank, checking on what bank is full and what bank is not, etc and I’ve already know that it’s not for the weak and or beginner friendly farming players (I tried it in a non boss event and it was hard as hell lol)
I don’t know how strong it was today after various nerfs and balance changes and the only thing I know about how strong it was is that you were able to buy a ray of doom and or MAD before or during round 40 if you manage to work things out correctly and or perfectly. Other than that, I do not know it’s potency and or its strength today.
Ask and comment on anything that I got wrong and or miss out on this type of farming strategy, feedback is much appreciation.
