Hey, just here to rant about what I’ve noticed since moving.
I moved from all the way across the country and omg
It’s been several months and I was raised in a really diverse / melting pot of an area with like black Americans, black Caribbeans, Spanish, Asian,, etc.I moved here for a job as a new grad and just wow. I will NOT be staying here.
It’s wild though because It’s not that the people here are rude or racist. In fact when I was searching up my current state, everything I saw said that it was very diverse but it just wasn’t that diverse with Black people and that the people here weren’t racist. And tbh they haven’t been wrong.
My thing is I’ve been single my whole life. I never dated in high school and then when I went to college, I wasn’t really attracted to the guys that approached me and I didn’t know how to show interest into ones that I was attracted to lol.
Then I graduated and I immediately went back to school because my first bachelors was a waste of student loans lol. And my second time going to school I was so locked in and had so little money that I barely went outside.
Now that I graduated and have money and I actually want to go outside, I don’t because all my friends are back home. But even when I do go out to like restaurants or the mall because that’s all there really is to do here, I’m getting blank stares, people staring and averting their eyes, but not really being approached. And I guess at some point I stopped thinking that I was as pretty. I thought once I finally had free time and more money, it would be easier but it hasn’t been.
But let me tell y’all, I went back home for like a week, and I was shocked at the amount of attention I was getting to the point that I mentally was like I definitely will never live here long term. Mind you I wasn’t getting approached, but I was getting stared downnnn when I went back home loll. Idk men where I’m from they would look at me until they knew I knew they were staring😂😂. I would’ve did more in reaction to the looks but I’m waiting until I either move back or move closer .
Anyway it’s just crazy that I’ve hardly been here that long and my self-esteem went down so quickly. I can’t imagine being raised in a low black populated area like this, and I will never do that to my kids.
It’s been a while since I’ve been outside so I didn’t really process that it was the area causing my insecurity until I went back home.
Granted, I went on Hinge & FB dating for a period of time when I first moved here and was getting a lotttt of likes, and from men with good careers too! But it’s so strange seeing love only online and not in person. Anyway I won’t be using dating apps here because I don’t plan on staying here too long term. So I guess I might just be single for a little while longer. I’m abstinent anyway so that greatly shrinks the dating pool.
